You may not have liked the guy, but sports are about winning and he wanted wins more than any other owner (and was willing to pay for 'em).

He was probably close to the worst as his overpaying of contracts came close to destroying MLB for all but the largest and richest cities.

When the Yankees won, it was in spite of him, not because of him. He also played a big role in driving salaries and ticket prices too high.

His most effective work was an 8th inning setup man for Mariano. Return him to that position and groom him to be his eventual replacement.
