Would you have made Belichick's decision?

Up 34-28 with 2:08 remaining against the Colts, the Patriots decided to go for it on fourth-and-2 from their own 28.

New England coach Bill Belichick said afterward his team "tried to win the game on that play. I thought we could've made that yard. I thought we had a good play."

Great call. Pats knew they would lose no matter where Manning gets the ball back. Why not let Brady try to win it? Easy to second guess.

No, play the odds. Yes, it's Peyton Manning, but going 60 yards is still tougher than 30.

I would have punted!!! The Colts would have then been forced to go down the whole field. Belichick cost the Pats the game!! What an idiot!!

Punt, play big D, get the ball back, run out the clock in Victory formation. Done. Glad the Pats lost though!

There are times you have to believe all the time and practice will get two yards when it counts. Most times, it does. This time, it didn't.

Shows disrespect for the defense--make the Colts go 80 yards to win. "...tried to win" turned out "gave game away."

Arrogant? NO! Risky? YES! Pats defense could not hold the Colts in the 4th - also, Brady had the same idea when he rushed to the line.

Odds were that the play would have gotten them 2 yards, it usually does. If Faulk hadn't bobbled it would have been fine.

You can't give Manning the ball with 2:30 and three time outs. Doesn't matter where on the field, he scores. Best chance just failed.

Do you see how easy it was for Manning to score? Pats knew that he could also do that from 60 yards away...its easy to say now that he should have punted...but i would rather take a shot of keeping out of mannings hands and in bradys.

If he didn't have confidence in his defense, he wouldn't have risked giving Indy the ball so close to the end-zone. If he gets the first down, the game is over. If not, well then his defense still has to stop Indy only with less yards to give.

Probably the right call.  The odds are in Manning's favor if he has the ball, and two minutes remaining - no matter where he is on the field.  If the Pats had picked it up - game over.  You don't want Manning with the ball on the last drive.

It's east to second guess. Fans have no clue how tough it is to make that call in just a few seconds. Maybe he knew something about his punter.

Anyway, I'm still thrilled Indy won. Manning is he true Patriot. What a class act!

Never forget that Belichick had the guts to pull out all the stops instead of playing it safe.

Try to retain possession or punt it away to Manning with 2 minutes and 3 time outs? Both scenarios spell trouble, but I respect his decision regardless of the outcome.

Brady was trying to get the Pats up to the line quickly so to catch the Colts off guard on 4th down, which could have: A. worked and the game would be over, or B. made the Colts burn a timeout. Once the Pats called their timeout the situation where a 4th down play would have worked was lost, although they did come close anyway. Sometimes a coach should trust his player's instincts. The Colts might have still won the game, but it wouldn't have been as easy for them.

NO ONE would ever go for it on 4th down, on your own 28 yard line. That is just ridiculous for anyone to say they would. Guess they are as stupid and Belichek. Ugh. I'm glad the Colts kept their undefeated record at the Patriots expense.

Anyone who thinks Belichik's call was a bad idea should consider this --- Manning had just moved his team 3/4 of the length of the field and scored a touchdown. The Pats defense was depleted and exhausted -- witness how they defended on the aforementioned series. IF they had made it, they most likely would have been able to run out the clock and win the game.  IF Manning had gotten the ball, ANYWHERE on the field with 2 mins left he would most likely have scored. The only hope was to keep the ball away from him. What Billy B. did was the ONLY rationale decision..........

"Manning had just moved his team 3/4 of the length of the field and scored a touchdown."

"IF Manning had gotten the ball, ANYWHERE on the field with 2 mins left he would most likely have scored."

True, but your logic also suggests to say "screw it, let's just give the ball back to the Colts here on our own 28", which does not have any sound reasoning. The commentators all agreed that it was a terrible decision. The main person who thought the decision was sound, was Belichik -- who is now standing by his decision just to try to save face on a very poor decision. How pathetic! He should have swallowed his own pride, and admit that it was a terrible mistake.

Besides, it is a logical fallacy to take the disposition to defend Belichik's decision by suggesting it is too risky to punt and give the ball back to Manning at 60 - 70 yards:

If it is too risky to punt the ball and give it back to Manning for a 60 - 70 yard drive attempt, to the point that you would (briefly) consider going for it on 4th from your own 28 YL (before coming back to your senses), then it is insane to take the chance of giving the ball back to Manning for a short, 28 yard drive attempt... by your own logic. If you are scared of Colt 60 - 70 yard drive, then you would definitely not take a stupid risk of giving Manning a potentional 28 yard drive! The only sound decision would be to punt.

Forget what Belichik's decision suggests about their own defense for a moment. What does Belichik's decision suggest about the Colt's defense? Secondly, what does it say about Belichik when you also consider that the Colt's have one of the best defenses this year?

Folks, that play call was just pure ego and arrogance on the part of Belichik and the Patriot Offense, pure and simple. It is futile to argue otherwise. It has been a common theme for them in many games. Some people just need to realize and admit when they are wrong.

Belichick's decision is based on the risk he faced with Manning with no respect for the rest of Colts team. As a matter of fact, in the last quarter, Colts defense was playing well and gave football to Manning so quickly to let him score twice. Football is all about momentum. Well, he created history for a wrong reason for a change. You get the result you deserve.

The second aborted attempt at the Gungans you never heard of.

Droid Commander: What is the situation in the Gungan Line Lieutenant?

Droid Lieutenant: I see a tall human wearing a silly padded uniform with a horseshoe on his helmet with a number 18 on his chest. He is standing by a crate of oblong Gungan boomers.

Droid Commander: Holy S**T – Peyton Manning!!!

                                                    Droid Lieutenant: Peyton Who???

Droid Commander: No time to explain: Get me Runne Haako. (Takes phone from the Lieutenant droid, continues,) Sir, with all due respects, please tell Viceroy Gunray and General Greivous to F**K off, we are retreating at once. We can’t with this one, the Gungans have a too powerful weapon.

Droid Lieutenant (haughtily): Surely we can defeat a human who only has boom- (A beautiful spiraling boomer strikes the lieutenant in the chest, knocking him dead)

Droid Commander: Good observation, Coach Belichick, now men, lets get the hell out of here.
