The defending national champions, are undefeated, and have won 19 games in a row. They will play Alabama and the winner will get Texas, but until they lose, they are Numero Uno.
Texas played better. They should have this title...Period!
Texas play "better"-than what? It's Bama and it will be a great game in Pasadena.
Number 1... 2... doesn't matter as long as the best 2 teams play for the championship... didn't happen last year...Running up scores doesn't make you a better team... perhaps if Landry Jones had gotten more playing time last year in blow-outs ou might be playing better this year. But Bradford got his Heisman last year and ou is losing this year...
Tebow still in in a 27 to 3 pasting....late in the 4th quarter.........he no longer is a heisman candidate. More ref no calls in the Alabama/LSU game.......have no clue what the replay officials are looking at. Sad state of affairs when the officiating stinks. MONEY,MONEY,MONEY.......Lets take all the revenue from all the bowls and split it evenly among all 120 members of the league or create two 60 team football conferences.......so more than 15 or 20 teams have a chance.
Texas is playing better football right now and should be #1. Anyone who truly loves the game can't help but wonder what the hell is going on with the replay booth. If you know anything about football then you know LSU intercepted that ball. Ball in two hands and under control and left foot down. Only one foot required in College football. It's one thing to lose to a better team but getting beat by the refs really sucks. This year's officiating is quite pathetic. When coaches get threatened about bringing up disagreements with the officiating things start to smell of corruption. Seems some people wish to determine the outcome of some close games. Just my 2 cents.
texas could be#1, #2 or #3 right now and it doesnt matter. florida/alabama will play texas for championship if they all win out so where they are today means nothing.
referees in football, just like umpires in baseball, make mistakes all the time. if college football is such a conspiracy, why watch or care about it?
MikeFla
You know but will never admit it that LSU was ripped off by the ref's. I know that we were still down by 6 but you have to leave it in the players hands. Even after the win by the ref's we still moved up in the BCS poll. Geaux Tigers
geaux: actually i didnt see the game so was not referring to the play at all, rather the WEEKLY interest in SEC officiating.
Bama is headed to Atlanta and hopefully Pasadena. Roll Tide!
Sorry win!!!!! you know who was the better team
I'm not even voting because I'm highly Alabama biased and cannot be objective -- and since the top 3 are correct, in the current system and with this year's circumstances this is all we can ask. The shame would be if the possibility of how Auburn was shafted in 2004 could recur. Thank goodness that is not a real possibility unless several unexpected losses shake up the top 3 -- in which case none of the top teams could make a righteous whine without hearing a sound rebuttal.
How can anyone in their right mind vote for 'Bama over Florida. Never mind that Florida is the unbeaten returning champ. Never mind they've won 19 in a row. Look at the numbers.
Florida has the #1 Defense in the league, 'Bama #2. Florida has the #3 Offense in the league, 'Bama #5.
Florida beat Kentucky by 34, 'Bama by 18. Florida beat Tennesee by 10, 'Bama by 2. Florida beat LSU by 10, 'Bama by 9. The only head to head where 'Bama had a bigger margin was Arkansas 28-3.
Next week Florida plays S. Carolina ('Bama by 14), and 'Bama Miss. St. (Florida by 10). Let's see what it looks like then.
Hmnnnn. What Florida did BEFORE this season is not important to determing who is the best THIS year. If that reasoning holds water, then Alabama's 12 national championships should be considered. We will see you in Atlanta. Bring your crying towel for the trip home.
Texas has looked great against LA Monroe, Wyoming (ok, second half), UTEP, and UCF. They should be near the top in schedule strength.
fourthlense thinks he has got his sarcasm down to an art.
He is obviously a blatant & biased Texas hater...must be: 1) a disgruntled Sooner fan (really bad year for them), 2) still burned by the USC loss to Texas in '06 Rose Bowl (can't get over the "best team of all time" getting beaten by Texas), or 3) east coast/west coast delusionary (believes all of the NY/LA sportswriter drivel).
Whichever of the above you are, what you are not is an observant college football fan - probably just an immature hothead who nobody in your social circle will listen to, so you have to resort to venting on a discussion thread
Nice resort to juvinile personal attack, but the Texas schedule speaks for itself. I didn't see a point of view in your blather. Too busy spewing to have one? Take a breath.
fourthlense has a really good point. Those weak opponents shouldn't push them in rankings. Texas is undefeated and a good team, but arguing for #1 with that schedule would be way off the chart of reality.
None of these team are #1 potentials or even championship caliber until they stop playing PUSSY teams on their non conference schedule. Come out to the PAC 10 and play some real teams and NONE of these so called pretenders has an undefeated season!!!! They are very SCARED of the PAC 10 teams because they all know what will happen!!!!
LOL....you must be kidding. when was the last time the pac 10 was considered by ANYONE better than the sec, big 12 or even big 10.
I know you're an astute unbiased observer of college football but I have to ask, "Where do those who know football best rank teams in the PAC 10?" All polls indicate that Texas, Alabama, Florida are the top three teams with other none PAC 10 teams biting their heels.
Oregon's display this past weekend really proves your point. PAC-10 is on fire!
yeah this teams are tough: Eastern Washington, San Jose State, Portland State, Central Michigan, Northern Arizona, Louisiana-Monroe, Idaho State... not to mention the weak PAC 10 teams - most of them. There's a reason they were called the PAC-1 last year and this year even USC has fallen off.
just tuning in for the weekly florida shouldnt be number 1 whining. for a conference thats so weak everyone sure does tune in to complain about the referees every week.
Florida is still number one, but only because they are atop what amounts to a popularity contest. Being "voted" number one by coaches and sports writers is a piss poor way of determining a "champion". Until we have a playoff system (like EVERY other respectable sport) no team (or fan) can look themselves in the mirror and say that they are a true champion. The BCS sucks.
Personally, I would like to see an index in the BCS formula that represented the dollar size of investment that the college or university had to make to get to that ranking, i.e. the lower the investment the higher the index value. That way, we could begin to see the true value of the high performing teams/coaches/adminstrations at those colleges and universities that are efficient and effective with the dollars that they are granted to operate under. The lower the program dollar invested coupled with the greater win to loss record, the higher they might be placed in the BCS standing. Same goes for the Harris, Coaches and AP polls.
No one is ever satisfied with any system unless their team is ranked at the top. Then, that person is very happy with the system. Stop whining about what amounts to accusations of bribery.
I don't see how you equate return on investment to an accusation of bribery. Makes just a much sense as the current BCS formula.
While I enjoy my team being "national champs", the whole concept is a myth. There is no way to determine such because it depends on too many factors. But, sports is built on competition and there is always a winner and a loser. That doesn't mean that the losing team is weaker but that circumstances, that day resulted in someone losing. I guess we can't change human nature in the sense that we want to vanquish someone.
Alabama beat a tough team this weekend--unlike Texas who beat a creampuff and Florida who struggled for a while against an almost winless Vandy
I think that FLorida is No.1 because they won last year and until they get beat they are No. 1. I am a bama fan and time will tell in about 3 weeks who is No. 1.
I agree with Diane Alabama beat a great LSU team and Florida play a weak Vandy team. But until Florida loses they should be No. 1 no matter who they play.
Florida has won 19 games and until someone beats them they should be No. 1 . I am a bama fan but until Florida is beaten they should be No. 1. We will no in 3 weeks if they are really a no.1 team after they play Alabama.
All of this BCS bull can almost make one laugh at the pretty stupid polls based upon coaches inputs who no nothing about most teams outside of their own conference or sports writers/ESPN talking heads who try to kiss ass with the biggest schools......or cry as someone actually takes this seriously. It is so crooked now that we ought to just let congress vote on the national championship.
Seriously ......How about a using an unbiased computer that actually ranks strength of teams, strength of conferences, margin of victory, etc as well as punishes teams that have players that never go to class or graduate, coaches that make $1M a year, etc.
rick, the computers do consider strength of schedule and conferences are recognized for strength as well by the computers and voters. margin of victory is pointless because then it plays to the advantage of teams playing weak schedules. coaches making $1 mil plus is irrelevant. graduation rates have no place in the rankings but should be somehow else considered with respect to available scholarships or alternative financial incentives.
