I'm a Spaniard who's studying here in the US. And everytime I watched Rafa was in Spain) and the atmosphere back home is something special when Rafa wins, we're sooo proud of him....
BUT, the feeling is different when you watch this particular match from the US, being that it's September the 11th, and that the match is taking place on THE very city that fell victim to the attacks.
I'm not in N.Y. but I can sense more than ever the grief of the American people..... So imagine how delighted and TOUCHED I was when I saw the RUSSIAN contender wear a BLACK RIBBON on his left sleeve....
Finally, I continue my previous comment by admitting I felt ashammed -jealous even- that it was NOT my compatriot the one to think FIRST of that gesture (wearing such black ribbon, that is).
Instead, it had to be a fellow from a country whose disagreements with America are legendary, to say the least, the one to MOURN IN SOLIDARITY with the American people with a subtle, quiet, elegant display, just like he is: WHAT A SHOW OF CLASS from Russian Mikhail Youzhny......
Sure, Rafa aknowledged that it is September the 11th and he said some very kind words in honor of the victims at THE END of the match...BUT THAT BLACK RIBBON appeared FIRST, from the beginning of the game, all throughout, until the end.... So guess who won me over from the beginning?...........
YES! The Russian won me over, OVER my own compatriot and from the start I couldn't help it, I just had to root for the Russian for my being in an 'American-kinda-mood <3.
PS. Sadly, I didn't hear anyone in that CBS broadcast, mention anything about such show of respect from the Russian contender. Sure it's nice that American broadcasters are so biased towards my compatriot, but please, take a second to say out loud that you're thankful for it!!!!!!

Lissy, ¿ eres de verdad española?. A lo mejor de origen, pero ningún español conjuga así los verbos, ös equivocáis¨escribiendo así.... Además, el comentario es injusto con Rafa. El gesto de Youznhy fue efectivamente muy elegante, pero las palabras de Rafa fueron muy sentidas. Y no me parece que haga esperar a sus contrarios.

Escribo I'm a "Spaniard" aunque no puedo en este foro, decir que soy de "Catalunya" porque dudo que el estadounidense comun sepa de nuestros conflictos politicos separatistas con la Patria.
Puedo conjugar los verbos de manera SIMPLE para que me comprendas en tu manera simplona de hablar el castella'.. Yo hablo Catala de nacimiento y tambien me las entiendo con el galego y el vazco. Se exactamente el modo en que se conjugan los verbos en todas las regiones y el que no sabe eres tu.
Ademas que uno no es profeta en su tierra y somos los verdaderos compatriotas de Rafa los que lo queremos y somos los primeros en criticarle cuando lo merece para que mejore... Y si dices que el no hace esperar al publico y a los contrincantes ...es porque no has visto los partidos desde el principio y tampoco has estado pendiente de los entretelones cuando las camaras lo captan en los vestidores... Ten conocimiento de causa antes de abrir la boca o antes de escribir en un foro publico.
