His swing was a mess, and so was his marriage. Tiger Woods figured he could only deal with one problem at a time. In this case, golf had to wait its turn.
As usual people are all too ready to announce Woods as back and ready to win. The fact is, despite a 12th and 11th finish the last two weeks, he was never a theeat to win either tournament and his golf swing still produces a ton of terrible shots. He was still missing shots he would hit in his sleep a couple years ago... and the only thing that actually seems to be working a lot better for him is par putts are actually going in. Thats the only major difference in his game, even though the media is just dieing to report something good about Woods.
In reality, this past weekend was only a success because he made a lot of long par putts. If he misses those putts like he was a few weeks ago and he probably would have missed out on this weekend. So its way too early to think hes ready to win. Of course he COULD win... he is Tiger Woods after all and it should supprise no one if he did (especially with the choke mentality of the rest of the PGA Tour). However, there is little evidence that he is on the verge of being his old self....
Tiger changes his swing almost as often as he changes the skanks he jumped in the sack with while he was married to Elin. What a joke. I'm tired of hearing about him every other frikin day. Cover someone who is winning. There are plenty of other golfers out there to cover that actually have some class. Tiger has zero.
And John- If Tiger is within 5 or 6 strokes of the lead with one or two rounds left, he definitely has a chance to win it. He's done it too many times in the past. He'll be back.
Well to be honest, Woods has a terrible problem from winning fron behind... especially in the majors, so if hes at all behind to start a round I'm not worried about him winning.
With that said, I would agree that with a couple rounds to go he would be a threat to win if he was 5 or so back. However, he is in fact not playing good and wasn't really within 4-5 of the lead the last two weekends (two weeks ago he was near the lead early, but faded on Friday and never threatened).
And to declare he will be back isn't a huge stretch, but not a given as everyone seems to think. David Duval anyone? While Tiger isn't David Duval, if Wood's trouble winning drags into next year it would not suprise me if his frustration were to get the best of him and permanently ruin his game. The longer he goes without winning, or even really contending (which he hasn't since the US Open), more likely that is to happen. Lets also remember that since he hasn't really even sniffed a win this year, we have little idea how his game will hold up if he had the lead coming down the stretch on Sunday...
