Tiger is not ready to win at stroke play tournament golf. Getting back to playing golf was as much a part of his recovery program as anything. He was moderately competitive in the majors where he had his head on straight. I think it may take the rest of this year and a good part of next year before we see the Tiger we saw in 2009
I disagree, he had two top 5 finishes in Majors this year and that is more than moderately competitive. His problem seems to be all off the T which it has been most of his career. When he hits fairways, he climbs the leaderboard. His short game is not as good as it once was but it's better than the vast majority of the field. What I haven't seen him do in quite a few years is be great in the 10' to 20' range on the green. He misses a lot of 10' and under putts now and he used to never miss those.
He needs to get straight off the T so he can get close to the pin on the approach and keep his putts under the 15' range. I wish he would get back to the stinger T shot he used for a while. It was kind of ugly but it was long enough and it went where he wanted it to go.
Watching him on the T is as nerve wracking as watching Watson in the 70's standing over a 10' putt. Oh wait! Watching Watson standing over a 10' putt was even more nerve wracking last year at the 72nd hole at the British Open. I had flashbacks!
I am not currently a tiger fan, but you cannot deny his talent
Who cares? With the performance of the officials at yesterday's PGA tournament,
many people are thinking golf has sunk to a new low...Better get your act together...
tiger will be tiger once his divorce from the money-minded bitch is over and he can concentrate on his one and only passion and that is golf. good riddance to bad rubbish that is elin. zubie
Sure, he will!! He is still the number 1 golfer in the world!! Just give it time!! Nuzzy, it wasn't the official, it was Johnson, apparently the only golfer who did not read the very first rule of the tournament that was handed to every golfer before they played!!!
I believe as so as TIGER gets over his mental handicap at this time he will be back.
Yes, he is down, but he's not out. Remember, not too long ago, we thought Phil would NEVER win a major. I don't know how Tiger is playing at all considering his personal life. But he is certainly not done.
He'll win another title or two once he gets his head right. But I'm thinking Jack's record may not be within reach after all. Too much good young talent coming on.
I hope he doesn't--he has disgraced the game and himself. What a arrogant phony!
Get a life, when he works out his life, get tied on.
Bye, bye, Jack.
I hope he doesn't--he has disgraced the game and himself. What an arrogant phony!
When this issue with Tiger began, I posted a saying on my blackboard for everyone, especially my son and husband to see; it reads " the ego can be an asset or a liability, just ask Tiger Woods." The real problem for Tiger is his ego has been both. He has never had to face such stress, not even with the death of his father. Right now, he doesn't know how to be the old Tiger, because that Tiger, outside of his golf, was a fraud. He still has to find himself, and until he does that,l he will not play well. He will need a lot of counseling, both emotional and personal, and someone as a Psychological Coach for professional athletes. The problem with Tiger is probably admitting he needs the help.
Yes, he will return.
Also, the saying is "That which does not "DESTROY" you makes you stronger". It is not "Kill". The saying is about mental destruction, not the physical.
A paraphrase of the quote attributed to Friedrich Nietzsche; “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.”
Not only is he past his prime, Woods has demonstrated that his swing is high maintenance, and with or without a swing coach, he is unable to control it. Secondly, and most telling, he has now shown how weak he is mentally. Game over. Every year there are equally talented young pros hitting the tour who hit it farther and putt better. Jack's record will stand the test of time.
His armor is chinked. It used to be just his presence on the course was worth 2 or 3 strokes a round for him. The only way to beat him used to be don't be paired with or within a group of him. Players are no longer intimated by him.
The sad part is this should be his prime years as a golfer. He's played enough to have all the shots, old enough to restrain his emotions and manage the course and still young enough to still have the physical ability. He blew it over a piece of tail, well a lot of pieces of tail. How ironic is it that he kept more mistresses at the same time than Nicolas won majors?
He'll win at least one more major I think but he won't ever be the Tiger we saw smashing Augusta, tearing through St. Andrews or making Pebble Beach look like a par three course and do it weekend after weekend. His aura of invincibility is gone. Once it's gone,it's impossible to get back. Now there are a lot of young golfers who were single digit age when he won his first major who are hungry, strong, able and willing to take that mantle that he had of being the best. I really think that Roy McIlroy has the potential to be the next big name in golf if he stays focused.
In the end when Tiger is old and grey and hitting ceremonial T-shots to start off major tournyments and then sitting on the sidelines, I bet he will have a lot of remorse about how he conducted his personal life and what that did to his golf game. His goal was to break every record there ever was and outshine Nicolas in major wins. It's going to be hard to do now.
I agree with you on McIlroy, this guy has a great swing and has demonstrated at the age of 21, a high level of maturity, both on and off the course, something that Woods never achieved. McIlroy is going to be one of the greats. I disagree with you on Woods ever having remorse. Woods is a self absorbed liar and narcissist. People like Woods never have true remorse.
I hope not. Tiger is all about Tiger. He has an ego so big he cannot even see what has happened to himself. I hope he never wins another tournament period. He does not deserve to be on the Ryder Cup Team period. The U.S. has never won with him anyway so why does he think he can help now with his game in the toilet? There are so many good young golfers coming up and they are not intimidated by the likes of Tiger. And in just a few more years there will be more of them. They are not afraid to play against him or play with him. They have confidence they can beat him one-on-one. Tiger is not going to ever dominate the game again. Why does the press spend so much coverage on him when he is at the bottom of the leader board. The press should be giving their attention to the ones who are winning now.
In all the comments and yours as well not one word of all the good things that Tiger has done for golf and kids. The tours worst nightmare is for tiger not playing. The difference in their ratings when tiger is playing is about 22 percent. When he shows up at a tournament the gate goes up about 25 percent. You may not like him but the PGA tour loves him.

Tiger is in the top 12 in Ryder Cup points...Corey should take the top twelve...
