Competitive cheerleading is not an official sport that colleges can use to meet gender-equity requirements, a federal judge ruled Wednesday in ordering a Connecticut school to keep its women's volleyball team.

it's not a sport but an activity. It is a coreographed activity, volleyball is not.
It sound like Quinnipac is not through playing games. Rather than reinstating the volleyball program, they're going to start a women's RUGBY team. I suspect when there are either not enough women interested to keep the program operational, or not enough other teams to play against, the University can drop the rugby program. It then can claim that it didn't drop the program, it just died. It doesn't count against their Title IX count if they offer a program, but no one takes it up.
All schools require the same GPA for members of a cheer squad just the same as any other athletic teams. My son's all played football and wrestled into the college level, were state and national Champions and placers. My daughter loves competitive cheerleading and her team has held national titles as well. The difference is although cheerleaders are required to adhear to the same school requirements and participation....The financial burden falls on the parents, not a dime from the school for camps or uniforms???
could this get any sillier? When we worry about whether cheer leading is a sport that should be funded under Title IX it's another nail in the coffin of civilization as we know it! This shouldn't even merit news coverage!
