Their records will always be tarnished because of Jones. The sad thing is they could have replaced Jones and still won legitamely.
Fair is fair.
the right thing to do
These women deserve their medals!
What a stupid decision. In a "relay race" if a teammate runs outside a lane the "TEAM" is disqualified. Doesn't it stand to reason that if a teammate cheats and is disqualified the team is disqualified?
Absolutely correct!
Laurie, How can you say these woman deserved the medals? The would not have won the medals in a relay race "but for" the cheating of their teammate!
Why should those that did no wrong be punished?
they deserve the medals.
They didn't cheat like Marion Jones, they deserve the gold for their effort. one bad apple does mean the rest of them have to suffer!
Great for them SHAME ON HER.................Cheats never prosper
Those of you who believe the others should keep their medals are way off base. One went so far as to say that had Jones been replaced, they still would have won. How do you know? What if the replacement messed up a relay hand-off, or ran a slower time?
I know it's the "politically incorrect" position to take, but you WIN as a TEAM, you LOSE as a TEAM. Terry brought up the best point. If ONE teammates runs outside the lane, the ENTIRE TEAM gets disqualified. Same here.
They do NOT deserve to keep the medals. How'd you feel if you were a member of the team that, LEGALLY, finished FOURTH and got no medal at all?
Fruit of the poisonous tree. They all knew that Jones was doping. If they say they didn't then they are lying through their teeth. Just goes to show why track and field has been such a joke for decades.
