With the Big Four dominating most of the finals, it's hardly surprising two new candidates have never made it to the centre stage since 1978. In fact, only five previous finals featured two teams trying to win the World Cup for the first time. Obviously, such were the first two finals, between Uruguay and Argentina in 1930, and Italy and Czechoslovakia in 1934. Then there was the sensational encounter between West Germany and Hungary in 1954, and a somewhat more straightforward affair of Brazil versus Sweden in 1958. In the last 50 years, only Argentina and Holland met in a classic non-champion final in 1978. Both teams were extremely lucky to get to the final in the first place. Argentina
