Please tell me this is a poorly conceived joke. A guy with all of what, three starts to his name? Taking the place of someone who is 10-1 or better on the All Star team that's been pitching great three months when Strasburg has pitched great for three whole games?
This poll is pathetic pageview bait.
It's simple:
On MLB.com, the official site of Major League Baseball, you can see the league leaders in any pitching category but to be eligible to make the list it states a pitcher must have 1 IP for every game played by their team. As of this morning, the Nationals have played 76 games while Strasburg has only thrown 25.1 innings, ie. not eligible.
If they guy isn't eligible for a list of league leaders, why would he be eligible to play in a game with the league's best players? He shouldn't! I'm excited about the kid and he's going to be in a lot of All-Star games but he doesn't deserve to be in this one. If people want to use the BS excuse that fans want to see him, then go out and buy tickets, he'll be coming to a stadium near you eventually. Then again, they could always let him pitch in the Futures game during All-Star weekend and those very same fans would get to see him pitch!
Paul you are right and who has he faced Pittsburgh 25-50, Cleveland 27-47 and Kansas City 32-44, now I am not saying the kid isn't talented but come on only the media would want this as a fan I think it is an insult to the rest of the league. Let's see how he fares against even the rest of the NL East before we give him a CY Young Award. Three starts doesn't tell us anything especially against weak teams. Tonight I believe he faces Atlanta, next Saturday the Mets and I would like to see him face Philadelphia before I decide if he is the real thing or not.
I like Strasburg, dont get me wrong, I like him a lot. But when this poll says the "fans" want to see him, I think they are lying to our faces. I think the MEDIA wants to see him because they are always looking for something to write about. They would love to make a spectacle of this. If you take a look arouind there are plenty of solid pitchers having career years all across both leagues. Since April , no less. If he wins his next 3 starts and they give him a invitation, fine. But, at least be honest and say you all ( the Media) just want a story. Which i might add, you will screw up when you write that one, too!!
Let's wait until he's pitched at least 8 games before we induct him into the hall of fame
If you want a rookie to be in the game, how about Mike Leake of the Reds? Oh wait, he's not a fast ball pitcher, just a pitcher who has actually been in the bigs all year.
I'm holding off until he faces Atlanta and NYM. The kid is great to watch, but All-Star after a couple of weeks in the majors? That's a stretch. If he can handcuff two strong teams, then maybe...
Maybe Fox, ESPN, and MLB Network should start scheduling more of his pitching outings through out the rest of the season for a national audience. If people really want to see him throw as suggested in this article, then the ratings will be there. Otherwise, let's see the 2010 body of work that earns him a spot; but under current rules he is probably out until 2011 (except if the infinitely-wise commish jumps in like he didn't with the non-perfect perfect game screw-up).
Look folks, he may be good, he may even be great thus far; however, if he is this good, he will prove himself next year and he will then be on the Allstar team. He needs to get in line a put in the time.
What a joke! Never mind Strasburg last outing because the teams defense stinks and offense cant hit? It's a team game last I checked... every lose counts in some way. And 3 starts, one against Pittsburgh, is far from enough to be an allstar. Celzic, you're an idiot!
The only one who wants to see him in the All Star Game is the media, the fans deserve more respect here then reporters like Celzic want to give us. The kid may be great but he has not proved himself yet and over time as the rest of the league gets to see him pitch and get the scouting reports on him then we will see how great he really is. I can remember Phil Hughes as a rookie no hitting the Rangers through 7 till he got hurt and then have a terrible sophmore year. There are other rookies that have struggled once the other teams have enough time to find their weakness. I think if you put this kid in the All Star game after a half dozen starts is a slap in the face of the fans who do have respect for the game, let the kid earn his spot like every other player. Again he was terrific against weak teams and that does not prove his ability. To me the media attention on this is no different then that piece of trash media seeker Lady Gaga insulting the fans at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field and then the media focusing on that. The only reason the media wants Strasburg in the All Star Game is to give them something to write about and to be honest that is not fair to the game. Lasgt week when the Yankees faced the Dodgers the media was focused on Torre facing his old team but the reality is 75% of this years Yankee Team never played under Torre but that didn't matter to the media. When Manny was up in Boston when the Dodgers faced the Red Sox all the attention was on Manny not the game. I understand that the media need something to write about but to all of you baseball writers wake up and report on the game not the easy stories you want to harp on. I lost all respect for the media a last year when all you morons could fixate on was A-Rod and steroids that that tramp Roberts tried to sell in her book that nobody bought when there were 724 other stories spread out amongst 29 other teams that you should have been talking about since that was what the fans really wanted to hear not your fixation with one player. Strasburg may end up the greatest pitcher ever but until he proves that he is he should not be the only story. The game should always come first and since there are 725 active players at any given point there are more stories that you should be focused on.
No, not at this time. He has shown a lot of potential in the Big Leagues, but I wouldn't consider him an all star, yet!
Since when is the All Star Game about merit and earning your spot. Does anyone really think that there have never been undeserving all stars. How many guys over the years have gotten in on name recognition only with the old argument that "well he's not having a great year this year... but look what he's done over his career." In the past few years we've had games ending in ties ans supposed super stars leaving the ballpark before the fith inning because they started and got pulled after 3 innings. The All Star game is a joke of a game and no matter how MLB tries to spin it any differently it's still an exhibition. It is billed as the "fans game" so let the fans decide, if he gets enough write in votes to be considered and the all star game manager thinks he would be able to help win the game since it's supposed to mean home field advantage the he should be in the game.
Celzic - I'm convinced you must right most of your articles just to drive people crazy.
You can't really believe that a kids who's been in five games, should be in the all-star game.
The only people that believes this guy deserves to be in the All-Star game come from Washington, and they're the Bandwagoneers that hoped on the Strasburg connection all of four weeks ago. Even the die hard MLB followers in Washington don't believe he's an All-star. There are a lot of long time MLB players that deserve the honor, and not a snot nose with all of three starts. This is why the Baseball writers, the players and managers should be the only ones who decide who's worthy of this honor, and NOT a bunch of snot nose Bandwagoneers that have nothing else better to do than sit in front of their computers, and stuff the ballot boxes with their unacknowledged picks. The ones that picked Strasburg haven't a clue about the game of baseball, so they should be the last ones to make this important decision.
I wish the all-star ballot were totally based on fan votes. If the fans voted the kid in, let him pitch. The only players who "deserve" to be in the All-Star game are those who received the most votes. Top vote-getters in each position play 3 innings, all others play 2.
You obviously have absolutely no knowledge of the game of MLB, cause if you did, you wouldn't have made such a statement as you just did! Again, All All-Star voting should only be done by the Sports Writers, MLB Managers and the MLB players, that's it!!! Take to Snot Nosed Bandwagon fans out of the equation, period! Only then will it be a game of All-Stars that truthfully belong there, instead of ones being voted onto the All-Star teams by unintelligible, IQ Challenged Snot Nosed Bandwagon idiots that stuff the ballot boxes from their parents computers!
It's too early to tell if Strasburg is the real deal or a flash in the pan. Time is the true test of greatest. Let's give the young rookie time to prove himself. Our society is to concerned about self gratification rather on long term success and quality.
Ok fine all you NL fans out there vote him onto the All Star Team. Now, here's the sticky wicket...who from your hometown or favorite team are you going to kick off the All Star Team to let this kid pitch?
...
Oh! Didn't think that far ahead did you?
Don't get me wrong, the kid is exciting and I hope his arm doesn't fall off and he pithces for another 20 years and makes about 19 other All Star Teams, but one month in the Majors pitching against poor teams doesn't earn him a roster spot this year. Let's give him til this time next year and annoint him our new King.
No If you want to see him pitch go by a ticket when he is in your area. 3 games does make you and All Star. Lets see him make it at this level. I do think he has a good chance but lets wait and see. This will not be his only chance.

This is a gathering of links, stories and votes that the editors at NBCSports.com like. Hopefully, Newsvine also like 'em.
Um, no. Someone who has pitched 3 whole games doesn't deserve to take the place of someone who is 10-1 or better and has been good all year
