In what one environmentalist described as "yet another public relations disaster" for embattled energy giant BP, CEO Tony Hayward took time off Saturday to attend a glitzy yacht race around England's Isle of Wight.
As oil spews in Gulf, BP chief at UK yacht race

Good grief, the man is entitled to go home for some rest and see his family. He does have a life outside of this disaster. That's right, it is a disaster and BP ought to pay every dime it takes to restore normalcy to the gulf and its people, insofar as that is possible. But, those who find fault with Hayward for going to the yacht race are not looking for solutions, they only want empty gestures. Gestures do nothing. "Oh, I guess I will stay on site 24-7 and neither eat nor sleep lest anyone think I don't care about this crisis." Some would have the guy sit in a chair on top of a pole overlooking the gulf until it is completely cleaned up, which would accomplish nothing. Others want to crucify him if he happens to have a smile on his face. The fact is, his company is at fault and ought to pay through the nose to correct it, but it is also a fact that life goes on, including Hayward's, and he is entitled to sleep, eat, rest and even recreate occasionally, like any normal human being. His absence is not going to delay the work one bit. Stop looking for empty gestures from this guy and let the company do its work to fix this problem.
Why not??? Between the Coast Guard, the politicians, the so called President in the White House, and all the other bull, BP / Amoco is so handcuffedm there's hardly anything to do.
By the way...what Obie is doing this weekend??
It's now official. The stupidest people on the planet are now getting media time and space on demand. My guess is there is now a race to the bottom to see who can write the stupidest observation of all time. Taking time to watch a yacht race is now a criminal endeavor? The only people more stupid than the people that write this stuff are the editors that actually allow it to be printed.
