Washington Post: The ruffling and shuffling you hear in the background of this U.S. Open isn't a flock of seagulls arriving off the Pacific. Instead, it is a changing of the animal pecking order in the world of golf as Tiger Woods, after another over-par round here Friday, moves back to mortal status in his game, at least for the moment.
With Tiger mortal, it's Lefty's time to shine

Phil will "choke" he always does
J.A.-1567076, Phil has won four majors. That is not allways choking. He will supplant Tiger as NUMBER1.
if he does who cares, as long it not eldrick winning im happy for whoever wins.
Phil is and never will be Tiger. So we all know just how human Tiger is now. Perhaps his fall from the pedestal was what we needed as fans. Phil is one of the best golfers without a doubt. But he has never been consistent. If he becomes number 1, he should enjoy it while it lasts. Tiger will be back.
Won't happen, Tiger's days as dominant are over.
Based on what? Tiger been down before. He always comes back stronger and better...just look at last season after his knee surgery.
base on his ever loving fans, dont like it then dont post.
eldrick is always a loser, always has been and always will be, he threw his winning streak out the windows, so no matter how many he wins now, or if he stays #1, nobody would care, he's a cheater of family and always will be.
personal life you say?? excuse me he brought it onto himself as become a public figure, being put on tv and product, if you didnt want to become a public figure all you had to do is say NO!
but he didnt, he had to pull his pants down to get more satire publicity.
I am all for Phil. He is a gentlemen and it is nice to see one on the coarse.
I agree, Go Phil!
The ecology is being ruined in the Gulf. We have a no nothing President ruining the country. WHO CARES about this stupid golf jerk???
What are you doing here? Must everything be politics to you?
All Mickelson is poised to do is take over #1. He will NEVER be able to bring the kind of ratings by himself that Tiger was able to bring to the tour. Phil is a good golfer and that was proven each time Tiger was away. I don't care what Tiger did in his personal life. I don't look to athletes as role models. I watch them to see them put the ball in the hole. But if thats what the rest of the sanctimonious and holier than thou people want then more power to you. The article, however, should make it clear that Phil Mickelson will NEVER have the global star power that Tiger Woods had and brought to the tour!! NEVER!!!
All you have to consider is the fact that Tiger hasn't played in many tournaments in the past two years and is still ranked #1. THAT SAYS DOMINANCE. When, and if he falls, Phil won't last very long at the top. He's to inconsistent and there are other golfers, as good or better, that will challenge him. He's had a number of opportunities to take over #1 this year and has choked on every one. Tiger may have screwed up his personal life, but he is still one of the greatest, if not the greatest, who has ever played the game.
Sort of an ill-timed article based on the 3rd round, wouldn't you say?
Tiger's back nine was awesome! Right back in the thick of it. Where's Phil...
The final pairing, Johnson and McDowell, now have the unsettling knowledge of Tiger breathing down their necks.
Thank you...thank you...thank you douche for writing this article because it only makes it all the more satisfying to know you are sitting somewhere knowing what a fool you look like for writing this article. You and so many others ready to crown Phil Mickelson and claim that he can take Tiger's place half way through a tournament. Well now what do you have to say after that third round performance by both Tiger and Phil. Tiger roared on moving day and Phil faultered. Granted, Tiger has never come back from down to win a major and chances are he won't tomorrow, but just as he had never lost after at least a share of the 54 hole lead and eventually did, he will eventually come back from down to win a major. This is poetic justice for the article.
What say you today Thomas Boswell? Where be your opinion piece about round three?
All full of yourself with your hopes of Tiger taking a beating this weekend and then poof, Tiger does exactly what Tiger does more often then not, way more often then not. He digs down, makes some shots, builds on that momentum and scares the hell out of the leaders waiting for the final round.
What will you have to say if, and that is not a big if at all, Tiger wins this year's US Open coming back from what at one time was a nine stroke deficit?
I can't wait to read all about it on Monday Mr Boswell. Will I be able to read about it Mr Boswell?
Probably not.
