The Bruins (Chiarelli) have already taken steps to advance themselves further than the secound round of the playoffs. They got rid of a subpar defenseman in Wideman. They got more toughness and grit in Horton but they still need to get a quality defenseman or two because they have more than adequate scoring talent in the forwards they have: Bergeron, Savard, Ryder, Kreji etc. The issue I noticed this past season was they did not do a good job protecting Rask and Thomas. They need quality defenseman! The secound round pick of either Hall or seguin will definetely be a boost.
Chicago is a young, extremely talented, well coached team that arguably has yet to reach its peak. If they stay hungry and healthy, the road to the Cup is going to go through Chicago for quite some time.
So long as the Leighton can be strong in net or we settle on a more seasoned goalie the Flyers have the best chance of taking it. They have a strong, young offensive core and now have arguably the best defense in the league. This combo will make them the team to beat and should give them the best shot at the cup.
San Jose had a pretty good run this season , the play offs looked better than the past, A new goalie could build a fire in thier belly and go all the eay.
Watch out the Flyers are making moves! They got lucky with the draw last year, but the defensive moves they made this offseason are very good. If they get back to the cup I dont think it will be luck of the draw. They get back to the cup they win it this time!!!!!
How can anyone say Flyers? They got rid of Gagne, have no goalie and only signed Zherdev. That is ridiculous. Chicago dismantled their whole team due to the darn salary cap so the league is wide open this year.
How is keeping their top 2 lines and top 4 defensemen is dismanteling the whole team? They let some fringe players go but the core is signed for years to come. They didn't lose anybody that was essential.
Who knows? It will probably be one of the above (in the poll) top teams, but there is always that chance it could be someone unexpected, that is what I love about sports.
Detroit Red Wings will make the finals from the West but we all know they are really in the East and will rightly take the East in the finals and the Cup.
Red Wings now deeper, healthier, more talented and experienced; have better 10-year overall record than any other team in hockey today. Will be difficult to unseat this solid team from their Stanley Cup. They are now hot out of the starting gates, showing their high explosive offense. Goalies can hold their own.
Gary Bettman will win the Stanley Cup this year! Oh wait he can't do that! Or can he? He could just get a few to many men of the ice calls to go his way and suspend a few key players from the top team for not participating in the so called NHL no hit no defense Allstar game, because we will say they are not really injued and then Sid the Kid to come up out of his basement with his crying towel in hand and Walla!! there you have it...... The Bettman Cup...... Oh I mean Stanley... Oh we can change that to just need a little more time ... NHL all Time Sportman of the Year .. Sidney Crosby the No Class Jackhole after his last Stanley cup win but Hey Who holds a grudge..... No Class don't win cups now does it just ask Bettman and Crosby.
Granted Chicago is the Stanley Cup champ and will remain so until they are beat out of it. The only thing that Chicago has that disturbs me is Bowman, not the son but the old man he's the best. With that said Chi. has lost what 9 or 11 players due to cap and other changes... The goalie that won it all for them they let go, I don't know I could be wrong but the Red Wings look good they can swing 4 lines, and thats four good lines. We will see I'm looking forward to the season.
P.S. Never a Chicago Black Hawk fan but they have always interested me going way back to. And always liked their colorful jersey with the feathers and all, but the winged wheel may pervail this year
While I honestly think its going to be a three team race between Detroit/Chicago in the west and Washington in the east, if the Rangers can just find some scoring they will be a threat to win the cup as well. They most certainly need to lose Redden in the minors and will likely need to pick up a couple scores at the trade deadline, but the pieces and experience are there if they can just score a few more goals and Lundquist is a touch more on his game this year.
Pittsburgh Penguins have the best chance to win the Stanley Cup over the next five years due to the longterm signings of the key roster players.
Flyers get a goalie They will prevail great young core

They just blew up their team because of the cap. At least know what's going on before saying something inane.
after alex and company getting dismissed like they did, i think they will be back more powerful than ever. a few changes in the d line and away we go.
They already lost the opportunity to improve the defense. Caps will go nowhere fast.

Not the Bruins.
Chicago will be even better than last year.
San Jose had a preety good run last season and play offs, they are ready and a new goalie can put some real passion to win.

i'm a avalanche fan but will vote flyers.....they sure matured alot at end of season...they will be tough.
Yo

I picked Pittsburgh (not a Penguins fan), but an offensive team that gets some good defensive players is tough to beat.

You're an idiot. Go back to school and pay attention next time fool.
Detroit win win because............. well because it's been a few years and they are due!!
Actually. even tho I'm a Wings fan, I think Chicago will be taking it home again, those kids are just too good.
