its a bit early to predict a dynasty for the Chicago Blackhawks but if kept in tact another cup is possible in 2011. Niemi will get better. toews kane sharp hossa and keith along with the 260pound wrecking ball are a pretty good nucleus. solid goaltending, great special teams along with skilled players are enough to repeat. joel quinville is iceing on the cake.
The Blackhawks broke through this season and played great in the playoffs. The big question is who will be coming back to the team. If they can replace the players not returning, the Hawks are in good shape to make a serious run for the Cup.
No, the legnthy NHL is too much of a grind to allow for repeats anymore. Back in the days of the shorter regular season and less total potential number of playoff games would enable the Canadians win 5 straight cups in the late 70s and the Islanders 4 straight in the early 80s. The Hawks have the talent, but nobody has the endurance in today's NHL. The playoffs mean an extra 1/4 to 1/3 of a season for the cup winners. The Hawks are like the Pens. Their youth should make them potential multiple cup contenders over the next few years, but not in succession.
Their cap situation will keep the bandwagoners from rejoicing in Chicago for a long time. The team became so good because they sucked for so long that they were able to amass a great deal of high draft picks. Now, those picks are off their rookie contracts and will handicap the team's salary options. The Hawks method of victory is one way to be successful in the short-term; but it doesn't breed long term success like the perennial powerhouses do. A good front office, excellent scouting, and dedicated ownership is key. The Hawks are a flash in the pan team.
They are a good team, no question. How ever, the Detroit Red Wings are going to win their 12th Cup, so they should relish in the fact that they are champs, for now.
