The Texas Rangers filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Monday in hopes of spurring completion of the $575 million sale of the team by midsummer to a group of investors that includes Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan.
Rangers seek bankruptcy, still owe A-Rod $25M

Its a good thing GWB still doesn't "own" the team LOL
Have a bake sale, or a yard sale - just like the school district your stadium sits in has to do to raise money...
That's a shame, because the Ballpark in Arlington is one of the most "fan friendly, bring what you want" places in the league. (contrary to Anaheim and Seattle where security guards won't even allow a bottle of water.)
I imagine now that a "team of investors" is involved, the "fan friendly" piece will go by the wayside in Texas.
A "team of investors" already owns the Rangers.
Too bad for the Rangers, but I do want to correct something in the story. The Seattle Pilots DID NOT file bankruptcy they just moved in the middle of the night after only one season in Seattle. Seattle sued and won which is why the Mariners exist at all.
Now if Hicks would sell the Stars all would be good.
What a surprise...if BUSH touches something it eventually collapses...just like the Rangers and just like America. Sad, but true.
Wow, Lou. Blame Bush for everything, including what a baseball team does several years after he was a minority partner. He's probably responsible for that damn continental drift, too.
Agdomedude you forgot the oil spill
Pay your workers, you bums.
Don't be like the airlines who used bankruptcy to "downsize" and then reorganized with cheaper labor.
Geez...things have been tough for GW. First the United States; then the Rangers!
That's enough to drive a man to drink.
PS. Really breaks me up about A-Rod's $25 million.
Anyone suppose that the bill for the new Presidential Library on the SMU campus is buried somewhere in that $575 million?
Of course, if you owe $500 on a credit card, bankruptcy won't wipe that out.
Who says special interests have too much influence? Nah.
It's good to see pro sports teams fall on hard times. That just means you're paying the players too much and thus charging me too much for tickets. It shouldn't cost $50 for a cheap seat to watch grown men play a child's game. Maybe
