Congratulations Butler and Staff. As a lifelong I.U. fan I was absolutely impressed by your effort and class. Maybe our cheerleader coach at I.U. will learn from the composure exhibited by both final four coaches, particularly Brad Stevens. Sit down Coach Crean and coach from the bench. Learn from those two men and leave the cheerleading to the cheerleaders. Great season Butler and thanks for the memories.
Butler achieved the dream of every mid-major and had a great run at the title. Teams like George Mason, Siena, Richmond, Murray State are often good for one great upset win, maybe two, in the NCAA Tournament. But let's be honest, except for when the planets totally align, like this year, most of them just can't push past the big boys into the Elite 8, etc. It is unrealistic to think that Butler is going to win the NCAA Championship in the next 50 years, given the number of good teams, the level of competition, and the nuances of the game. THIS was their shot - THIS was their time. It was great, compelling and exciting basketball, and it would have been the ultimate fairy-tale ending if that desperation last shot had dropped in...
Look, we of course were pulling for MSU...they to "almost" made the final 2. Like Butler, a few less missed foul shot opportunities and they'd be where Duke is today. Basically, both teams are even as far as I'm concerned. It's rare to see a game today that was that close for almost the entire contest. A momentary 6 point Duke lead evaporated and it was nip and tuck all the way. My congrats to Butler for those entertaining and exciting 40 minutes of basketball that's rarely seen today anymore. Please don't consider yourself losers, because you finished 2nd...you are winners, 1st class.
