Michigan state will win the championship because they have the right coach coaching their team; Tom Izzo is a master in getting his player(s) to buy into the game plan, but most of all his player(s) trust him and refuse any other option than to go out on the floor and win the big game(s). I also believe the final game will be MS vs WV. final score: MS 73, WV 70
I have to go with WVU over MS. Tom Izzo is a masterful coach that gets the absolute best out of his players, but I think WVU's defense is too strong.
it's a no-brainer...duke's composure down the stretch w/ baylor was sensational. singlar was slumping but scheyer is back and smith has carried the team the whole way. superior coaching and team poise will win it all for this great team. you can take it to the bank. nuff said!!!!!
Some composure Duke had against WV in the NCAA second round in 2008...I hope they bring that with them Saturday - they'll be toast by midnight. WV's poise has made them the clutch team of the year. Now that's nuff said!!!
I thought Duke was going to lose late in the game, but they found a way to win. I just hope they can win two more! I think any of the 4 teams could win it all.
Refs need to call fouls fairly on offense and defense. Baylor lost a basket and Duke got foul shots at the other end, 3 or 4 point swing late. Looked like a poor call on television.
Go State.............10 years later.
Excuse me Mr Congress?? How can you make a statement like that? Duke ... home of the lacrosse team scandal and the memoir by Tucker Max "I hope they serve beer in Hell." (A disgraceful potty mouth recount of sexual escapades and chronic school absenteeism.) If that's what you call class then what respectable successful person would wish to have it?
Excuse me Mr. Texas!!!!
May I remind you of the results of the so called lacrosse team scandal? Once the truth came out, we found the accuser was a lying sack of excrement and the Durham D.A. ended up being disbarred for his actions.
Helloooo ... yes the accuser lied about her attack but the entire episode was a debacle and the whole team looked like a sack of excrement. Let's not debate ... I was responding to the previous remark about class vs no class. It was a callous and unwarranted comment from Mr Congress.
Duke plays as a team for 40 minutes, with everybody giving 100%. That attitude is very hard to beat.
Nobody knows, look at all the Number 1's, who are out. Duke had the easiest road to get here. I think West Virginia has the most talent but I would love to see Butler win, just because I love an underdog.
Butler will pull the biggest upset ever........remember "Hoosiers"
Butler will pull the biggest upset ever....remember "Hoosiers"
I think Butler may pull a big upset. They aren't a little Cinderella team winning on 3 point shooting and luck. Teams like that get tired and start missing shots and the midnight bell tolls. Butler this year is winning on defense. They have the longest win streak in the NCAA. They've beaten teams this year like Ohio State, Xavier, Syracuse, and Kansas State. And they haven't really struggled in the tournament even against Syracuse. They've always kept their poise. Michigan State has a lot of players out injured and they've been somewhat lucky to make it this far. Those injuries will finally catch up with them against Butler. Duke is too turnover prone as was easily evident against Purdue and that will keep them from winning a national title this year. And West Virginia fell earlier in the year to Purdue University. Not to mention Butler will be the first team since 1972 to be playing at home in the Final Four. And that year, the home team won. So look for a Cinderella story to possibly come true.
I wish to remind your headline writer and readers that Butler did not sneak in anyplace. They played with heart and skill and determination. Oh and by the way they beat No. 1 Syracuse and No. 2 Kansas State.
Though my bracket is shot to hell, it's kinda cool seeing all but one #1 seed in the big show. Being an ACC guy and an admirer of Duke's coach........it still doesn't sway me from rooting for the David of the tournament. That's why I like March Madness. The only sports venue where the little guy actually has a legitimate shot at beating Goliath.
Fight on Butler!
I have atched Michigan State figure out a way to win all season. I'm smelling an upset
OK. I wouild be remiss not to post SOMETHING here. Ever the pessimist, I wrote WVU off on my bracket in the game with Kentucky. Guess they got even with me, because that pretty well finished me off when they won.
On one hand, I don't think you can say that West Virginia "snuck" into the final four as reported in the story. They were seeded #2 and there was a legitimate argument whether the #1 should have gone to WVU or Duke. You guys always do such a great job of making WVU (or anything related to West Virginia) as such a shock when it turns out to be a good thing. We're used to it, though.
Now - I sure do hope they win. But in the years I've spent following WVU sports, there's one thing I can count on - and that is that the more excited I am about a game - and the bigger the stakes are - the more likely it is that things will fall apart. Does WVU have the CAPABILTY to beat Duke? You bet. Do they have the CAPABILITY to win the title? Of course they do. Will they? Well... The last time I was this excited was in 1989 and the football team was playing Notre Dame for the national championship. It didn't go so well... We have a nasty habit of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
What the heck... Go 'Eers! And if they choke, it sure would be cool to see Butler win. :-)
OK - I'll comment on my own post - a week later. WVU just lost to Duke by 21 points. I really hate it when I'm right. The choke artists have struck again. And again...

Who would have thought it would be Michigan State and Butler in the Final Four playing against each other. Many people would have put Kansa
