Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli was suspended for the upcoming season by coach Chip Kelly after pleading guilty to second-degree burglary. But will it be enforced? Kelly received some criticism in 2009 after he brought back RB LeGarrette Blount early from a season-long suspension. After making your vote about Masoli, back it up in the discussion below.
Will Jeremiah Masoli sit out entire 2010 season?

Not only should he be suspended for the entire season, he should not be allowed to use his redshirt either. Redshirting is not for seasons lost due to criminal activity and the for once the NCAA should do the right thing and not allow him to play that card!
agree with post #1....forfeit the red shirt loophole....suspend him for the season....Coach Kelly will figure out a way to get him back on the field and if so, HE should be suspended for a season,,,,stealing laptops and guitars sounds fishy...wonder if there was something else???...given OU's history I wouldn't be surprised if drugs were involved
Agreed. I'm heart broken. But JM shouldn't retain his scholorship when so many kids are keeping their noses clean while paying for the priviledge of attending UofO.
Should be off the team no questions asked.
The U of Oregon should consider retaining a bail bondman, it could be
of value prior to game time. In all fairness Oregon is not the only school
with this type of problem. Where the hell is the NCAA???
When you think of how many decent young men are coming out of high schools all over Oregon who would LOVE to have these scholarships, why are the Ducks so intent on recruiting and keeping hoodlums?????
This is a stupid poll. Coach Kelly never said that Blount was absolutely out for the season the way he has for Masoli. Of course Masoli will be out for the entire season, and there is virtually NO CHANCE he would play in 2011 even if he redshirted. The incoming young QB is very talented and would have a year under his belt by then, so Masoli won't be back.
It just goes to show you that @!$%#s will always be @!$%#s. Completely unappreciative of the opportunities presented to them. This is a slap in the face to the Ducks athletic program, his scholarship should be pulled and he should be kicked out of school. This goes beyond youthful indiscretion, this is not some on campus drinking incident, this was a criminal act carried out by a fully knowledgable adult. Take resposibility for the actions and welcome to the real world. Another @!$%#, wasted talent...
You're a RACIST Steven-1680767. A waste with no talent.

LeGarrette Blount responded to a taunt with a punch. He hit a guy his size due to emotion. He never lied about (not that he could have), he admitted everything, and faced his emotional meltdown. He was later allowed to play.
LaMichael James (another Oregon player) was accused of physically coming after his girlfriend (including strangulation). He responded with admissions of guilt, addressing the issues, and apologies. He will sit one game (at least).
Masoli was accused of theft of property, and lied to Oregon coach Kelly, who defended Masoli publicly on radio show(s). Now Kelly was made to look the fool. When you don't admit your mistakes, and make another person to look like an idiot, you are really hurting yourself. Instead of simply injuring the victim of the theft, you're injuring your coach personally. No wonder he's been removed for an entire year.
Same with the player who mocked Coach Kelly on facebook (Sorry, can't remember the name). He was insulting Kelly himself, and was booted from the team.
I think the main point here is one of respect. If you disrespect the head coach himself... YES, he's going to really dock you playing time or kick you off the team. That can't be tolerated. People make mistakes. Oregon's players are currently making many of them. But lying to your coach is going to get you canned, man.
Masoli will never sit out the entire season. Sometime after spring practice, when Oregon discovers there is no other quarterback alternative, Kelly will quietly announce that Masoli "has demonstrated remose and a strong desire to change". From there it will be a series on undefined goals set by Kelly which "have been met" and Masoli will become eligible to rejoin the team just before the start of PAC10 play. The coach has demonstrated time and again his penchant for saying one thing and doing another, This sets the example for his team. It is not that he does not have the ability to enforce some discipline on the Oregan team. But when winning becomes the issue, he no longer has the courage of his convictions to enforce the rules.
This is such a JOKE ! Masoli retains his scholarship ! All the 'hoodlums' get is a slap on the wrist, I wonder what a student would get if they broke in and stole laptops, etc. but weren't on the football team ? My guess is "KICKED out of school"............Kelly will not stick to the suspensions is my bet, he has NO ethics. Oh and "missing-the-opener" punishment for James and Beard....WHOOPEE....
neither kelly or oregon's president commented on uncle phil's feelings regarding the suspension - we all know who calls the shots at oregon

Are you kidding me? This punk goes out and commits burglary and he gets to keep his scholarship? Wow. Nothing like reinforcing negative behavior. You know what they say . . . "You can take da punk out da hood, but you can't take da hood out da punk." Here's the kicker - according to Wiki, this punk's major is (hold your nose) . . . Criminal Justice! Unbelievable. THROW THE BUM OUT ON THE STREETS WHERE HE CAME FROM, WHERE HE SEEMS MUCH MORE @ HOME(Y). Wow.
So the next football player who thinks about stealing property or harassing a woman has to ask himself, what will happen to me if I get caught? Lets see, I'll get to keep my scholarship, stay on the team and miss some games, maybe. Lockup your daughters (and laptops) Oregon!

oh yea, and guitars
Chipper will hold out Masoli right up until the time the Ducks lose their first PAC-10 game (much like he did with Blount until after Stanford) - meaning you should expect to see Masoli sometime in early October... probably against Stanford...
This guy is a criminal, red shirt shirt years are not meant for criminals. But the coach has shown he only cares about football, not player conduct. This guy should be removed from school, he's not a STUDENT ATHLETE.
