I vote for Pavel Datsyuk. The guy just wears out the other team trying to get the puck back from him, and if they do get it back, he takes it away again! The guy can make people look confused when he puts the puck between their legs and they turn around and he puts it back thru their legs the other way. He is the best defensive forward in the league by far, I just wish he would shoot more.
I agree with you John. Datsyuk is the most under rated player in the NHL. The problem for Pavel is that he has to outshine several really really good players in Detroit to get noticed.... tough job. Similar to the BlackHawks who are full of young rising stars that play off each other. Unlike Ovechkin and Sid the Punk Kid who when playing with mostly average players will always appear to shine brighter.
You sir are an absolute idiot who should never be on a hockey post. Pavel Datsyuk is a highly respected multiple award winning superstar who EVERY knowledgeable hockey fan respects. Yes Detroit has many good players but for you to suggest that Ovechkin and Sid the Kid play with average players is ludicrous. Semin, Backstrom, Greene, Morrison from the Caps and Malkin, Gonchar, and Staal from the Penguins. Give your 12 year old head a shake. Where were you last year when the Pens beat the Wings for the CUP. Still crying about the loss. I bet you loved it when Sid the Kid scored the O.T. winner at the Olympics for Canada. Sidney Crosby is 22 and has a Stanley Cup ring, an Olympic gold medal and an NHL MVP. What do you have other than a mean spirited attitude towards a great young man who is one of the best examples a sportsman can be. I hope you get help. By the way if Ovie and Sid are surrounded by average players then their accomplishments are more impressive. You defeat your own arguement junior.
Wow! That was brutal! I throw in one "punk" and get hit with "idiot", "12 year old" "Mean spirited" etc. What? Are their father you old puck?! Oh yeah, I forgot the junior remark. I've been around since there were only 6 a$$hole and I can tell the difference between players with talent and class and those with just raw talent. Guess where your two hero's fall. Being from HockeyTown you're right, I (we) are still crying about last year but we can sit back with our 11 other CUPs and bide our time. The Olympics? Correct-a-mundo again genius, who wouldn't be disappointed to lose that way. You have such a keen sense of the obvious! Crosby's good but not great (yet) and if he were standing in front of me I'd apologize to him for the "punk" remark, but you... well you're still an a$$hole..no apology necessary!
Semper Fi (where's the Aspirin!)l
I'll just go by the recent poll of NHL players who voted Alex Ovechkin the MVP- with (I believe) 64% of the votes. Crosby had 24% of the votes. Defense rests.......
Thats because, truth be told, most NHL players actually hate Crosby because hes a diving whinner and they all know it first hand. That makes you very un-popular, very fast. Ovechkin on the other hand, simply goes out and plays his ass off every night.
With that said, Ovechkin is the MVP hands down. The only other player that should even be considered would be Ryan Miller... but goalies have the Vezina Trophy for best goalie and really shouldn't be in the running for MVP imo.
Ovechkin is the NHL's MVP. He makes the Caps go...He is a wrecking machine out there. YOu have to defend him with extra guys, leaving one or two Caps free and usually they score...so he is a great decoy and scorer.
Best offensive player in the league. Crosby is great too. But Alex is tops.
I'm a long-suffering (until recently) Caps fan, but Stamkos was the most valuable player for his team. OV is awesome (but had a couple droughts/suspensions that take away from his overall season). Additionally, the Caps were just as good or better w/o OV when he was away. I any case, individual awards for team players are secondary to championships (as I'm sure all of them would agree). GO CAPS!!!
henrik sedin plays in the west against arguably better and tighter competition, but still he is the scoring leader and probable scoring winner. he also makes every player who plays with him better, one of the true signs of an mvp. the others are great, but he's my mvp.
Stamkos is good, but he isn't even MVP on his own team, stand up please Martin St Louis! Crosby is the leader of his team without being a DIRTY THUG like ovechkin.
