No way should that have been a DQ. It was obviously some home-town-scoring at work! Perhaps they'll leave Ohno alone for the next race...
Of course, if Americans don't win something they must have been cheated:) Get over it, it was the right call.
haha, ok so it seems like this after reading all the comments on this stupid vote..:
1. when american athlete is disqualified, americans insist ,"that is SO NOT FAIR. HE ONLY TOUCHED that athlete. BLAME THE REF!"
2. when a foreign athlete is disqualified, americans go," yes, YES! that idiot deserves to be disqualified!DID YOU SEE HIM PUSHING? OH GOD! "
Not ALL Americans...I watched most of the Winter Olympics and I was routing for many different people from many different countries. I can see where you are coming from though. The United States has become a 'ME' first nation and it's too bad more people can't be as gracious as the Olympic athletes.
It's alright, we'll give the Canadians this one because they're going to be ticked when we beat them in hockey again!
I no longer respect Ohno.
There is NO DOUBT IN MY MIND that Ohno PUSHED that Canadian skater. I was flabbergasted. Ohno did it because he was losing. Boo hoo.
People's eyes are really telling. Ohno's kept shifting when asked if he should have been disqualified which means he was lying. Ohno could not steady his gaze in return. As well, when the race was over, Ohno kept looking expectantly at the judges.
Ohno was NOT celebrating right after the race because he knew that he did bad... really bad.
In fact, Ohno's behavior was WORSE than Plushenko's - remember the Russian who claimed that our American male figure skater Lysacek could not do a quad so he really did not win the gold?
Ohno already held the title of the most decorated Winter Olympian so what is his freaking problem?
Do all people from Washington State lie? I work with someone like this. Maybe it's part of their makeup in that state.
Ohno - you really really ticked me off with your unsportsmanlike behavior and you are no longer a hero. What a cheap statement. Good bye.
I think....there are lot of honest people in America...i was so excited in this discussion....i have felt lot of thing and i was thought about Olympic through this discussion...everything must be fair!! bye ....i have to sleep now...zzz in Korea.......
Of course, if Americans don't win something they must have been cheated:) Get over it, it was the right call.
It is only the right call when it is made the same each time. A few days early, Ohno was pushed and it cost him a position - no call!
So, either the refs were wrong this time or they were wrong the last time. But not both!
If Hamelin isn't going to get a call on pushing on the chest of the Korean, but Ohno gets DQ'd for touching the other Canadian (which they all do from time to time to stop running into each other), then it becomes suspicious-looking and appears that the judge made a favorable call for his home team. No one here on the board should take this personally. It's not the first (or last) time biased calls have been made in sports. But I would think that an athlete would want to win on his/her own merit rather then get a freebee. I felt the same way about the women's US short track relay when Korea was DQ'd. The US looked confused receiving bronze when they were 4 seconds behind everyone else and were, for all intents and purposes, out of the race.
Sadly had Ohno not touched the Canadian he would have at least won Silver. The Korean wiped out on his own.
Actually the Korean didn't go down on his own. Reply showed that the gold medalist actually pushed the Korean (who fell) but wasn't disqualified. hmmm.. interesting.
Thats exactly the issue Canth....., Either both should have been DQed or neither. This is horse crap. Frankly I'd say neither Apolo nor the Canadian should have as it looked to me like the contact was very minor. The Korean skater lost it when he put his hand down on the Canadian skatersskate. I know its a long shot but I hope Apolo is still racing 4 years from now.
No he didn't, they showed Amblin pushing him on the replay, so if Apolo was DQ'd for it, so should have Amblin been. That would have only left 2 standing for a 3 man podium, so they should have just left it as it stood at the end.
Buffalo NY
I totally disagree with you about the Canadian but please be certain to watch the hockey game tomorrow.
As you know, a Buffalo Sabre is our goalie. Let's go Buffalo!
Well, it WAS a Canadian official DQ'ing Apolo.... so if you can't BUY the podium, then just misuse your power and take out the competition so you can steal the medals. Way to go Canada. Shame on the Canuck who knows dam well it wasn't Apolo who took him out, but instead he buckled and fell. When you look at yourself in the mirror with your medal, I hope you remember that you cheated to get it.
NO it was a BRITISH official NOT CANADIAN. Stop spreading false rumors
Why is it only the Americans whine? I have never witnessed so much whining in my life then by you Americans. You are a great Country but come on. Suck it up. Guess you better get your whine on when Canada crushes you Sunday in Hockey. Oh and by the way, Canada has more Gold then you. So we win.
Since Canada "owns" the Olympics, it's obvious they have more gold. Judges are Canadian, paid for. Bought.
Too bad your Olympic park is in BANKRUPTCY and going to be sold to LOWEST bidder after Sunday. You'll need all the "gold" you can get.
That's the response I would expect from an American. Your educational system truly needs an overhaul. I am sure you are aware of our economy being the soundest in the world, but I guess its hard to hear this being buried with a trillion debt load to nations around the world and trying to weasel out of paying them back. And why anyone would stick up for a cowardly little weasel like Ohno is beyond me.
Well, I believe Mr. Ohno won a medal a few years back after another skater was DQ'd. In this sport you live by the judging and die by it.
As to whining? You seem to find some here and make a great deal of it. Canadians shouldn't. You have done a great job with the Olympics, and played well above your size.
Good Job.
Don't be a sore loser and you shouldn't talk about a park going under when the US economy is in the tank right now.
I responded terribly actually. I love America and Americans. Just got me fuming when Ohno said Canada dq'd him because we wanted an extra bronze. Thats such poor sportsmanship by someone who should know better.
@JimCanada
because your boy hamelin pushed the korean just as much as ohno "pushed" the other canadian.
either both pushed or both didnt....cant have it split both ways
The games aren't over yet, and the US still has a chance at several more gold, so don't get too uppity yet. After all, the US still is way ahead of you in overall medals by far.
We don't whine and we do not cheat either, I know you Canadians wanted to mown the podium, I just had no idea you would stoop so low as to cheat Apollo out of 2 medals! USA!!!!!
You really need to go back to Canada and stick your head in the snow, it would be a whole lot better than where you have it stuck up now!
Canada sucks. All you have to do is watch all the coverage and you can see how they were just given some medals. Just look at the women's hockey team. They should have been punished for being on ice with beer and cigars yet an American had to come home for a picture!
JimCanada, did you see the whole of Ohno interview? He was a GENTLEMAN about it!!! He has a lot of class!!!!
"John Blythe: We don't whine and we do not cheat either, I know you Canadians wanted to mown the podium, I just had no idea you would stoop so low as to cheat Apollo out of 2 medals! USA!!!!!"
John Blythe is what's wrong with the world.
JimCanada, please don't lump all of us Americans into the same pile with MRI_Virginia. He's clearly his own special pile.
The US will win at least three more golds by Sunday. Four man Bobsled, Slalom, Snowboard parallel slalom, Speed Skating, oh and the most important...Hockey! Even have a shot at x-country skiing
JimCanada, most countries have groups that whine. S. Korea have been huge whiners from the beginning. Matter of fact, I've seen S. Korea speed skaters push our boys and never get called for it except for when it was against another S. Korean and a Canadian (from the races I've seen). It's a sport that touching will happen even by accident. Sad fact is that there are SOME refs that will pick and choose their favorites. Also there are a lot of countries that even if their athelete should have been DQ will embrace their medals and defend their Olympian- it's not just an American thing.
@Missy-0330
oh really? he's a gentleman, huh.
when I saw his interview earlier,he said,
"At the end of the race, I hoped the athletes to be disqualified like they were during salt lake city olymphics ." when he won his silver medal.
and no,I am not making this up. have some respect for others ohno, seriously.
JimCanada
I apologize. I completely agree that SOME Americans are whiners and there are many on this board.
Not only did the Canadians win fairly, I have lost all respect for Ohno and I used to adore him until yesterday when I watched this race.
I also cheered for the Canadian ice dancers who won the Gold. I cried at their performance it was so moving. They deserved to win, and our American skaters deserved second place.
And to the Americans who are laughing at the Canadian economy, let's just say that for the past 50 years or so, Canadian dollars cost us Americans about 65 to 70 cents UNTIL LAST YEAR when the Canadian dollar equaled an American dollar OR MORE.
Don't get me started on the value of the dollar to the Euro.

lol, bitter much?
poeticfire....hee hee hee....how'd that hockey win go last Sunday?
win first...THEN gloat.
So silly
OHNO pushed the Canadian cuz he couldnt bear to see Korea get 1st. Plain and simple. Stop trying to make excuses. OHNO is a dirty guy who should be seriously embarrassed of what he did today. The Korean did NOT fall on his own. The Canadian ran over his hand for pete's sake!
Korean was a dork .. slipped on his own .. you must be blind. Canadian slipped on his own ... but would rather see a Canadian win any day before a whining Korean girly boy
Ohno pushed the Canadian so Korea wouldn't get first?? i'm sorry that math just isn't adding up.
@Jason ... ChrisyBlissy .. AKA PeniWhini ... gotta be Korean hiding behind an English Alias ... or totally blind
Bliss - not certain about the Korean part but no doubt that Ohno pushed the Canadian.
Ohno has a track record of cheatings at game... nothing to loose at this time since his is the last one on final A, So, He pushed... so obviously... Admit it! Liars!
you are a moron ... but the canadian judge did what he needed to do
Gamer, Ohno is the most humble, honest skater out there. You put him down, and you'll have an angry damn mob after your azz.
gamer 1, I've been watching Apolo Ohno for 8 years now. I couldn't disagree more with your assessment of him. If anything I'd say he makes less contact than the average short track racer. Its very clear that the Canadian, Hamline made contact with the Korean, should he have been DQed also? So not only are you a liar, but also a hypocrite.
@gamer1
So, He pushed... so obviously... Admit it! Liars!
Angry much?
The Korean clearly fell on his own, before the "touch", and the Canadian fell. The Canadian should have been awarded silver. Ohno should not have touched ... it was ... rightfully or wrongfully ... construed as a shove. It's not a contact sport.
He was going fast and overtook the guy and used his hand to keep from running into him, but he should be disqualified because the guy went down and was unable to compete. It is the nature of the sport.
Canadian judge did what he needed to do. Apollo touch him so that was the green light to disqualify. American judge would not have. Home court advantage. Still think Canadian women hockey players are all lesbo and have more body hair than French women .. but i digress. Canada is a 3rd world sports nation ... but put on a reasonable Olympics for a bunch of hosers. We love you bunch of misfits ... only for your beer ... just kidding .. we nail your hairy women too .. just don't remember the next day .. cause your great beer.
Actually some of the Canadian woman hockey players are hot. Search it out. But even us Canadians don't really see Woman's hockey as much of an event.
took your advice and sir you are correct and i stand corrected!! And i agree, only people who take womens hockey seriously are Canadians ... and the American womens hockey team and family. Give it time. I remember when womens basketball sucked .. now college b-ball is fun to watch .. WBA is bogus though .. a bunch of unattractive huge tatted he-she's gangstas = total limpy.
"Still think Canadian women hockey players are all lesbo and have more body hair than French women .. but i digress."
Anybody else suspect that paulie has been DYING to use the word 'digress' correctly in one of his sentences for a while now? It's like he heard some douchebag neighbour say it and he said "yeah, that's a classy word. Makes me sound all smart an @!$%#..."
Enjoy your life.
Hairy women?
And apparently you have never been to Canada before...... :)
Korea should've gotten first place. Yet of course it's America whose in the race. So of course there's going to be bull@!$%#. I live in the U.S. and NOW i can see why everyone hates M'erica. Im ashamed of OHNO...take off that flag on ur shirt!
go back to where you came from. back woods, trailer park, Korea, where ver ... Korean dude slipped on his own .. no question.
You have the nerve to put down United States?? Go live in Pakistan, you dumb fuc$!!!
@ reaves ... come on man .. cut him some slack. not his fault his sista and daddy jack him. cross breeding breeds ... well no to bright individually ... so let him dis the flag .. just ignore him .. ... he will be deported back to Dorkistan.
No way did Ohno cause the Canadian to fall. Poor call. Tainted medal for the Canadians unfortunately. But a medal is a medal is a medal.
Ohno shouldn't have touched the Canadian. It's an Oh No night for Ohno.
Apolo touched but didn't push.
The Gold medal Canadian did the exact same thing.
That how I saw it too. Either both or neither should have been DQed.
DeepFreeze: "Canadian takings care of Canadians = Shameless"
Your comment = inane
I have only seen one American whine about the fairness of the Olympics this year, and that was Vonn's hubby. He was totally out of line, and should have kept his mouth shut. Other than him, I have seen nothing from the Americans and most of the other countries, but good sportsmanship and a spirit of good will towards each other. The only other gentleman that made a fool of himself was the Russian figure skater who couldn't get over himself when he was outperformed by Evan. For the most part, I feel that the athletes and the countries they represent have been WONDERFUL!
Vicki Berry
Apparently you did not read most of the posts on this thread if you don't think Americans were whining.
Ohno was whining big time yesterday and many posters on this board are whining.
It's embarrasing to me as an American which is why I apologized to JimCanada.
they all put hands on each other that last turn....so either none should be DQ'd or all should have been DQ'd.
hamelin pushed 2nd place just as much as ohno touched 3rd.
Gotta love this event. So subjective ... really evokes emotions. Kinda like ice skating and a speed event rolled into one. Love it or hate it depends on who wins and your preference. Good stuff you have to admit!!!!
I'm with you there. Wish they would televise more of these events in non-Olympic years. Short track racing is edge-of-your-seat drama from start to finish. These competitors rock.
Lots of Americans being boors here.
Learn how to spell Norm before you put down Americans.... dummy.
You're an idiot. The spelling is correct. He's NOT saying bore, you dumba**.
Lavi you stinkhead!!!
Ohno must be disqualified.
you dumba dummy stinkhead whithly brain!
don't say OHNO is good.
OHNO! say oh,no if you are disqualified.
Reaves....I love it. Best post by far. "Learn to spell..."
Nothing wrong with the American education system, or as you probably call it 'edumacation'
The problem is simple. Canadians worry way too much about Americans. The difficult thing to understand is that after the Olympics they won't even know Canada exists. Let's face it Canada, we are the step child in North America.

In the vid replay you could see the Canadian's ankle buckled and hit the ice, not Ohno pushing him off track.
