We're too far ahead -- with too many great athletes left -- to be caught. A wonderful performance by the US team!
This is supposed to be a forum where AMATEUR athletes from around the world compete. The news should be the struggles and the triumphs of the athletes from all countries. But not in the US. All we care about is DID WE GET MORE THAN EVERYONE ELSE. This is an arrogant and selfish attitude and just shows how shallow and thoughtless we have become as a nation. US television coverage of the Olympics is targeted on US athletes and teams. Canadian and other nationality TV coverage is far superior to US TV. They show more of the obscure events. They show the entire event and showcase the athletes. They have many more, and much deeper, stories of the struggles and triumphs of the athletes involved. US coverage is just to yell LOOK AT US! WE'RE BETTER THAN YOU !! Really sickening.
The Olympics is not like hippies planting peas in a commune. It's athletic competition with a big dose of nationalism. The Germans and Norwegians want to win the medal count just as much as the Americans do. If the Olympics were just about the individual athletes and no attention was paid to the country team aspect very few people would watch it.
That said, I totally agree that NBC's coverage is horrible. They own enough cable networks to make LIVE coverage available for all of the events. Not highly edited snippets played during prime time after 3 hours of local evening news & other stupid stuff. They do show mostly the American athletes and edit most of the others out so we can see more commercials for their new 10 o'clock lineup and lots and lots of local news. Shame on you NBC, I guess you paid 2 billion dollars for the last three olympics just so you could stop us from watching most of it.
USA will win the medal count but...
A. medal count doesnt matter cause its bout having fun
B. If you look at the medals that arent "judged" the USA is actually not easily winning
C. Professional athletes should not be able to contend, yet USA still does
But I still say go USA!!!!!!! especially contenders from Texas
"Professional athletes should not able to contend". Obviously you weren't around in the fifties, sixties and seventies when the Soviets and the Eastern bloc countries dominated because of their "professional status", including virtually every know performance enhancing drug/hormone.
