Oh yes she did. That's why all of the girlfriends were after him too, until they found out that he was cheapskate. Oh I'm sure that little Miss Sweden will stick around for the $55 million, but she'd better not turn her back. Either he'll push her over for another woman or his mother will get rid of her.Once a cheat always a cheat. His "apology" means nothing. He's just trying to salvage his career. I'll bet that there are still at least 4 or 5 women out there that he is still keeping under wraps.
Tiger did an ugly personal failure thing but so did the public that demands an apology only to not accept it because they never planned to accept it and really never want an apology but rather they seek more ammo to smear celebrities with. Some portions of society likes to eat people alive. Hopefully now he can get back to his actual specialty, golf.
Personally I hope that Tiger now speaks with his clubs and continues showing that he is a historic sports figure. As for his personal life failures...last time I checked my care-meter it still flatlined on the subject of a perfect human being. It rises high in the category of Tiger and golf, low on Tiger personal issues. Too many public figures of history fail in the perfect categories. Ali was one of the most hated public figures and yet his unbelievable talent was separate from his mouth. In the end it is being the best you can be until it is undeniable that paints the picture.
That press conference had to be one of the most feigned excuses of humility I have ever seen.
It's incredible how far the publics morality has fallen. For Tiger Woods to even think anyone cares about his infidelity is shameful. His situation is unfortunately no different than thousands of similar situations occuring everyday in this world. To think his is different is narcissism at its highest.
But it will make headlines across the country and many will sympathize and agonize his stupidity.
Who cares if he cheated on his wife. It is not any of our business. The fact that he is in front of a podium in a suit, trying to look like the President, to apologize for cheating on his wife tells me that he thinks that people give a shat. WE DON'T!!! The media is just trying to get ratings fool. I do not care what you do with your self off of the course. Stop acting like this is the biggest event of the decade because it is not. You play golf. That is all.
Came off like a scripted dog and pony show.........and weak at best.....time will tell......Complaining about the press hounding his family and his efforts to his charity.......was playing the sympathy card. And how people need to quit blaming his wife was a laugher.. When did ANYBODY blame his wife? And she hit him big time.......and she should have hit him more ........and harder
Tiger has made his Bed, now he has to Live with IT...yes, quite an honor from; Tiger to DOGGIE WOODS..as far as I'm Concerned, he excelled in the Infidelity Department Also...
This whole thing is ridiculous. He wasn't elected to anything by the public. He's made his mark as a golfer, not as a role model for husbands.
He has no reason to apologize to anyone but his wife, and the companies he's paid to represent/endorse. This press conference was all about the latter. Let the chips fall where they may.
Apparently, Tiger failed to understand the deal he made with the devil after he cashed his first hundred million in endorsement cash and sank his putter into his 12th mistress..... was that the world has every right to cast stones for being the false prophet that he portrayed himself to be.
Tiger somehow feels that he's entitled to his privacy after making a very good living off a very public life. Now that the press is publishing some very unflattering sides to his persona, he is insisting that they should afford him and his wife the privacy to heal.
Wake up Tiger! Just like the golf world and it's corporate sponsors made billions off of your image and feats, the media has every right to make billions off of your sordid personal life. The business world is beholden to no one in it's pursuit of profits, just like Tiger zealously pursues his titles in golf to increase his earning power.
Lastly, I know that Tiger's strong suit isn't public speaking, but his apology came across as insincere and staged and I think hurt him more than garnering any sympathy. He would have probably done better going on SNL and done a parody of himself in order to gain more sympathy than the contrived slop I just witnessed today.
I would respect Tiger as a man if he were to retire from golf with his hundreds of millions and spend the rest of his life dedicating himself to his foundation and his family. I already know from the world around me how difficult it is for people to change regardless of how much professional counseling they seek. Therefore, it's easier to fill up your days with doing something good in life therefore keeping you out of trouble. I think that the golfing lifestyle gives him too much free time in which to get into trouble because he is constantly traveling and away from his family.
However, whatever he chooses to do with the rest of his life, I will always be skeptical of his motives in life.
bobinatl ..........sounds good on paper but is a weak thought.
Every adult is a role model whether they like it or not. And as a professional it is that much more. Don't tell me what you are by your actions and endorsements and then totally become some loser at night.
Tiger screwed over his fans , his sponsors, his family, the sport of golf. Golf gave Tiger the opportunity to be what he is and had total disregard for the PGA by his actions. People say Tiger owes us nothing? Well we owe Tiger nothing as well......Good bye Tiger .....you hack...........
He made a choice to become a public figure. He's made hundreds of millions off being a public figure. Maybe if he had done the right thing, instead of hiding out, the media would not have pursued his family. When you sell a huge chunk of your life - you owe for that. The media would be more inclined to leave his family alone if he dealt with this like an adult.
And is stupid little speech today did nothing to satisfy the media. It was a totally controlled and contrived dog and pony show.
Golf would be fine without him. It was before him and it will be again. And for those that say he brings so much, meaning money, to golf that the game needs him - no it doesn't. Yeah, golfers may make a little less - oh well! Since when should playing 4 rounds of golf pay millions - ridiculous!!
There is no such thing as a sliding scale of sin, so I don't get the severe harshness from some.
My guess is, if many people had their every move scrutinized by people just like themselves, they might fly themselves in to a building in lieu of being lynched and hanged by the mob.
How do you "perfect" people do it? Share so the rest of the world can be "enlightened" by your holiness. If we could be a fly on the wall in your private life, would the harshest of you come out gleaming?
Tiger is a golf pro, not Jesus Christ. For those of you who say he wasn't sincere in his apology, please give me your crystal ball. I'd like to play the lottery.
All those women that came out and TOLD EVERYTHING! They are seriously STUPID! Tiger would have been calling ME, OFFERING a Mil or Two, to keep my lips closed, and you better believe, if he was CHEAP, he would have gladly PAID, to keep those affairs UNDER-WRAP!
It's bad enough he being a doggish dog, THEN getting BUSTED by his wife; but the MEDIA made it FAR WORSE for his FAMILY! I' m sorry, if anyone should be apologizing, it should be the MEDIA, for keeping this mess in his wife face, 24/7, forcing her to RELIVE the hurt and pain, OVER and OVER, and OVER again; then FOLLOWING the family around, as if they were the ones having the affairs!
How about the media HOUNDING GW and Dick Cheney for causing a LYING INVASION, adding to the financial Meltdown with their $30 Billion/month OCCUPATION! This is what HURTS ALL AMERICANS; what Tiger did caused GREAT pain to his wife, ONLY!
Who actually cares ? Tiger is like a lot of men - he's locked in some selfish, childish syndrome where he thinks he can have everything he sets his eyes on - even if it's to his own detriment. The least he could do is be discrete so the rest of us don't have live in the gutter with him. The only one who should really mind is his wife. It's her call. None of the rest of us, including the almighty, self-loving press, should have anything to say about it. He chose a lot of skanky, easy women to fool around with. If they had any class, they would have kept their mouths shut - and their legs !! It's his failure that he doesn't know the difference between the high road and the low road. Skank and sleaze will always get you in trouble.
Do you realize how stupid it is to say that his wife married him for money? How is that any different from any Tom, Dick, Harry, Jane, and Peg situation with anyone else? There are a lot of handsome bums on the street if you gave them a haircut and a good shower, but they couldn't score with Angelina Jolie!
Tiger Wood's apology is not for the public. It is for his sponsors. He has to convince his sponsors that he can still sell their products.
Why does Tiger Wood own the public an apology? Because he is a public figure. He makes big money because the public likes him. Otherwise nobody would care whether he had sexual relationship with one or more women or men.
It sounds like Woods is still in treatment. He reached a point where he accepted and understood that what he was doing he was doing all on his own and that it was his behavior that was at fault. I think that is an extraordinary step. He took advantage of Elin's trust and belief in him, and was in his mind probably blaming her and feeling it was his right to do as he wished when intead he had responsibilities as a husband and a father that supersceded everything else.
As far as having the press conference and keeping it private: this issue is highly personal and very painful likely to him. He stood up admitted fault and apologized for his behavior. The sincerity of the apology lies within the future. A sexual addiction, like any addiction, is never healed just held at bay and treated. I wish him and his family the best and prefer to send positive thoughts instead of negative ones. I hope he truly goes for all he can get out of the treatment he is receiving and that it brings him to a new and better place in life.
Who cares who this guy had sex with? He let no one down but his wife and family- and himself. Now for him to pretend like "sex" is a disease" that he just happens to have is just plain insulting. It's people like him and David Vitter that give sex a bad name.
he may play golf again, but I don't think he will ever get all the respect back.
debbie, Tiger playing with a chip on his shoulder? Should be pretty fun to watch...the Tiger haters especially. It was so much more acceptable when he was in the right box in their little minds. He's another celebrity whore. Get over it or look in the mirror ask what demons of yours are only being kept at bay by your limited means.
John Williams....first of all you weren't there and you ain't a mind-reader...you don't know at all why his "old lady" married him. Get over yourself! second....he's no different than thousands of others, men and women, who are so inflated with a sense of their own importance that they don't think the rules and values of the rest of the world applies to them. Good for his wife for not being there, looking adoringly up at him (i.e. Kobe Bryant, Eliot Spitzer's wife, blah-blah) while he "apologizes"....his behavior stinks, but then.....he's a money maker for the golf world and all who are willing to pay big bucks to watch him play are evidence that, outside of his wife and family, his behavior doesn't mean anything more than his "apology" does.
He fled the house in the middle of night with no shoes on and wrecked his car. She broke out two windows with golf club. He is doing a diservice to men who are victims of domestic violence. If a woman fled the house with no shoes on and wrecked her car, would the media be asking the question: Will he reconcile with her? They would have female advocates on the tv talking about women being victims of domestic abuse. Where are the MALE ADVOCATES on tv? The whole situation would have been handled different. We don't need to hear from the sports media. We need male advocates on tv.
No he isnt. He is sorry he got caught. It isnt like he was stopping this behavior before he got caught. Being said, I dont really care. Do what you do Tiger. As long as you dont hurt me and mine I could care less.
Good for him. Now will he just go away? I don't want to watch this 'statement' analyzed to death for the next three weeks. He's rich, he's a jock, he's an ass, some girls will screw anything with money and his wife is blind. That's all there is to it. Get over it PLEASE!
Veronica wants an appology????? B.S. She is what she is, a washed up porno star. She needs to appologize to Elin for messing with her husband, a married man. She was/is nothing but a gold digger. Women like her should be stoned as they are nothing but trash. I am sure she has another wealthy man on the horizon. Does she have a regular job?
All cheaters should have to go through this step on their way to recovery. I think it is necessary. Now if only all those skanky home-wrecking bimbos who seem to be so proud of themselves would do the same, this would be a near-perfect world. And for all you silly people who think he is doing this for you, it ain't about you. He is doing this for himself, his wife, & family. He did the right thing.
Women like her should be stoned as they are nothing but trash
now now MsMO, you are startin to sound like the Saudi Arabian and Malaysian government. It takes two to Tango and you cant blame her for trying. It takes a real man to resist the temptation to philander, and thats where Tiger failed.
That is absolute nonsense, not true. According to many media surveys, Muhammad Ali was the most popular and well-known person in the world, athlete or otherwise.
believe it. what a love filled marriage, errrr arrangement they have. I'll pay you to stay. he is a @!$%#ing loser!!!!! he had relationships, not one night stands, huge difference. she needs to finish beating him with the clubs and take the prick for half and leave. I have zero respect for these mousy biatches who, "stand by their man" for the coin.
Jacques-InZhuhai you are absolutely wrong. Ali (Cassius Clay) had a rough start and was hated. Many labeled him as the man you love to hate. He was very colorful and never gave in to the hate and he let his historic skill talk for him. Read up on the days he was hated - it may surprise you. You can start here. Ali is a classic example that public hate can be replaced by respect in time:
Honestly, he doesn't owe me anything, least of all an apology for something that is none of my business. Why would anyone who does not have a personal relationship with him feel like they deserve an apology or an explanation? I understand that many people, including children and young people, have looked up to him as an inspiration. But no one is perfect, and most celebrities held up as role models have failed us at some point or another. I think maybe that's the more important lesson for kids to learn-- you can't pretend like someone is perfect just because they're famous. And they are still real people, with real problems, and just like you they'd probably prefer to be left alone. Especially his wife-- for her and the kids' sake, can't we just butt out?
Sums up my opinion on the topic pretty well. The only people deserving of his apology are his wife and children. Nobody else, not even some obsessed fan or golf association, needs anything from him because he doesn't answer to them - he answers to his family.
People need to get over this sense that they are somehow entitled to every sordid and tawdry detail of a celebrity's life just because they are a celebrity. Get over it - celebrities are people too, and they all make mistakes just like you.
I'm with you! Enough already. The guy's a jerk in his personal life, no doubt, but he and his wife are the only ones that need to work that issue out.
As far as golf goes - well that's his chosen career. Whether he chooses to continue with that career is his decision. He doesn't owe anyone at the PGA level anything.
I agree 100%. Now the media needs to go on to bigger and better (and more relevant) things. I wish Mr. Woods and his family well and hope they can work through this.
I completely agree. He doesn't owe us one thing. If children look up to him as a role model, then shame on their parents. They should be looking to them as a role model.
As for Elin, I'm a female and I have zero sympathy for a Barbie who married for money. End of story. She has what she wants and I don't expect her to come back. (I am the sister of several brothers and I cannot believe the stories they buy.)
KyEngineer - I agree with your and others assessment that Woods should be left alone, but he did not make a "mistake". When you know what you are about to do is WRONG and you do it anyway, that is not making a mistake. The only mistake he made was assuming he wouldn't get caught.
"Temptation lives by intent, not opportunity." - AU
Why are we discussing whether the man owes anyone an apology? The fact is, he wants to make an apology. He's a highly visible athlete and marketing machine, and he wants to make an apology. Maybe he feels it will allow him to get his wife back, or get back to golf, or get back to selling product. But the fact is, the decision is his call to make, and he chose to apologize. Personally, I don't think he'll ever be back in the game of golf at the same level, because all the comedians and pundits and loud-mouthed fans will never let it go, which will prove to be too much of a distraction. And he's just going to be too hot for the marketers. How, for example, can a firm like Accenture cultivate a position of integrity and honesty if they use a cheater as a spokesperson? So if he is to have any chance to get back to something that approximates normalcy, he needs to be honest, and this type of staged event still shows a lack of complete honesty. So while I agree that Tiger owes us nothing, I really think it's an open question as to whether he can recover from this. I don't think today's speech gets him there, but we'll see.
Lisa, You hit the nail on the head. Why is everyone acting like this is the Monica Lewinsky scandal, re-birthed? This is something Elin and Tiger need to work out. His mom doesn't even have a say.
And for those of you who feel Tiger is your child's role model, you are sad souls. My husband and I are our children's role models. Get your head on straight.
You are spot on! The public demanded the apology - heck even some of his fellow golfers! But now that it has come, it isn't good enough. He attempted to keep this quiet, but the nebbiness of the American public who felt it was their right to know forced this into center stage. He destroyed his family and the media and public has successfully destroyed him. I think it is time we stop worrying about his indescretions and focus on our own faults. He is human, just as we are, we just are in the spotlight for all to see our mistakes.
When ANYONE looks up to FAMOUS athelics, they don't give a hoot what they do in their private lives, all they want to know is how to become just as good as they are, if not better, so they can MAKE the MONEY they make, and get those ENDORSEMENTS!
Most young boys already KNOW, Girls will be Girls, and women will continue to make a decent man WEAK! Ask the woman who seduced John Edwards during the months he could not have sex with his wife because she was under going horrible Chemo treatments!
I'm sorry, being a woman, I BLAME WOMEN for SEDUCING these men, KNOWING they don't have the strength to say NO!
Lord knows, I faced these challenges while married, and my ex did not, does not have nearly the money Tiger and other famous rich men have!
Once a woman KNOWS the man is married, it is UP TO HER not to chase after that man, or even if the married man is chasing her! SOME MEN ARE KNOWN WEAKLINGS when it comes to women, sex, and PORN! It's the FACT of life, and I doubt if it will ever change! These affairs and cheating has been going on since the BEGINNING OF TIME, and will NEVER STOP, until the END of life on this earth.
BLAME WOMEN for SEDUCING these men, KNOWING they don't have the strength to say NO! ...Once a woman KNOWS the man is married, it is UP TO HER not to chase after that man,
I sure hope you are not raising any children, male or female. Wow. What a warped view.
I'm sorry, being a woman, I BLAME WOMEN for SEDUCING these men, KNOWING they don't have the strength to say NO!
Interesting choice of words. On one hand, men don't have the ability to stay faithful, on the other hand women are devious and manipulate. So effectively, you slap both in the face. While on some level, you are not completely wrong, we have to assume that an adult, be it male or female, is capable of making decisions. And while there IS a lot of money involved, making more women desire to approach him (after all, how many women would have he slept with making $15,000 a year), he was in complete control of his decisions.
I would also agree it is none of our business, but as a country we love nothing better than to stand in judgment of others, so this is a perfect news story! I turned the channel.
Pogatch...Excellent point! Leave the man alone to deal with his issues and for his family, just completely butt out! And Craig, please realize that you spend a lot of your time judging others on your posts...watch out, things always catch up with you!
I'm in the States a good deal and so there's not much about American society that I find mysterious - but now this.
You have a perspective on this matter that I can understand. But I read through a dozen posts before I got to yours, and those people seem to think that Woods does in fact owe someone other than his wife and sponsors an apology. I do not understand that.
Can anyone help here? Do any of you feel that Woods owes you an apology? Why do you believe that? I'm not trying to be argumentative here, I just want to understand the reasoning.
He may be a great golfer, but he is a poor excuse for a man and husband. He may golf again, but I doubt he will ever fully regain the respect he had. I know I have no respect for him at all, anymore.
Why is the "news" reporting a non-news "statement." He spoke to (not with) a 'small group of friends, colleagues and close associates.' He's not speaking to the public, in general. If he were sincere, he would be speaking WITH his friends, etc., not lecturing TO them. Since Tiger is making this a MEDIA ADVERTISED speech, I believe this is just another self-serving gesture. How sad that this cheater is so shallow; even sadder that the media just eats it up. Two peas in a pod--Tiger and the celebrity/media hounds. Neither appears to have much integrity.
As far as playing golf, an intergral part of a sport is sportsmanship. Sportsmanship is not just what a person does during the game, but how all facets of one's life affects and is affected by one's relationship to the sport. This includes behavior on and off the green, on and off the court, and on and off the field. For those defending Tiger because he is a great golfer, I understand the admiration for the ability. However, the game, as a whole, is not just based in ability, it is also well founded in sportsmanship. If he would cheat so easily on his wife, it would make one wonder if he would cheat at other things as well.
Tiger needs more than just a few months of seclusion and few bites of humble pie to rebuild his credibility. The repair work he needs to accomplish will take years, if not a lifetime, to complete.
As for the trash that he consorted with, they deserve every bit of public outcry they get. Trash, (un)pure and simple.
This is absurd!! He should have told them all to go to h*ll. No human being has to be treated this way. He did something wrong and it's between himself and his family. I've never seen anything so crazy in my life. I've heard of it though... during the Salem witch trials. This country is going crazy - For religion or money or both, but this is insane!
I don't want Tiger on my tv telling me about his personal stink that has nothing to do with my life. The people that should be going to counseling are the people that worshiped and placed him as a moral and spiritual leader in their lives. How stupid do you have to be to hero worship another fallible human being?
This man plays sports - not lead a country in family values or teaches a religion of morals - he never did, he never said he did, he doesn't have to to be a great golf player.
By the way - I don't watch golf - I think it's silly. Maybe that's why all the people freaking out over Tiger are so silly, too. Leave the guy alone.
OK what's new? Now he's an admitted slimeball. "Elin never hit me!" What, she missed!? That politico speak is to insure the state doesn't take his kids.
Boo Hoo Hoo! This poor bastard! Doesn't want to entertain any questions, only provide superficial, veneer info. Please stay away from my family. We're victims your bad! Buddisim is the road to my salavation: a craving for things causes ......
Do you believe that Mr. Woods owes you or the public an apology? That he should provide you or the public with more than superficial veneer info... or any information at all?
The concept of American athletes making public apologies - apparently expected public apologies - for private behavior seems so odd to me that I'm fascinated by it. If I were in school again I would write my doctoral thesis on it.
"Networks reworked their programming and, by late Thursday afternoon, seven satellite trucks had already parked outside the Sawgrass Marriott."
really? for what? to hear some half-baked and well orchestrated 'apology' delivered in front of hand-picked pals? The only thing he's sorry for is getting caught. I'm sure all the Tiger Woods fanboys will be lapping this up.
This sounds like shades of Hawthorne's Scarlet Letter.
Next, let's send him out for "Re-programing", so that he can be a true Stepford Husband.
I have to ask why there is so much concern regarding this sports figure. Instead, we should be concerned about the true hustlers who actually affect our daily existence.

How anyone thought this guy was anything but a money hungry, spoiled brat is beyond me. Remember the infamous GQ interview done after he turned pro? It was immediately covered over by the woods marketing team. This is no different. If you don't care so be it. If you do care so be it. But please don't think this is anything more than pablum for the masses.
I don't know why everyone is so mad at tiger because them whores laid in his bed to spread there wings. He did what he was suppose to do. It is what it is.
Agree pogatch. This is being done for the sake of his sponsers and who cares? His family should be the only one he grovels to, pathetic.
What ever happened to discretion? Unfortunately, he'll give those ridiculous people he froclicked with another 5 minutes of fame. Why is the media so hyped about this? The Prez' State of the Union didn't get this much build up.
Why can't people just leave his wife and kids alone? That is a reasonable request. I live in Orlando and went by Isleworth last night on my way home, once again all of the trucks are camped out there. It is ridiculous. Elin goes to the mall and was attacked with horrible questions. This is not from local news stations here. They do not attack like that as we are used to seeing him around or we were before this all happened.
While I feel no pity for him I also believe that people can change and they need to be given that chance. I know I have done things in life and I am grateful for all the second chances I have been given. there will be hate and ugliness here and that is to be expected.

This behavior from the same media that hid his transgressions, rather painting him as "The Man everyone wants to be"....who'd have thunk?
Until the heat dies down then it's back to business as usual. This guy will continue to do his thing. This time though his handlers will be more careful of gets close and laid.

What is this obsession with apologies and remorse we seem to have in our society.
Who's business is it anyway, other than Woods and his wife?
Woods public life is golfing, and he's darn good at it. The media has been taken over by the idiotic Barbara Walters mentality of needing to know 'intimate' details of his life.
After the Enron collapsed hurting tens of thousands of investors, Ken Lay, Skilling and his accomplice didn't apologize. Neither did Stanford, Madoff, Regis, Ebber, Nachio, Stewart, and other frauds. Former Treasury Paulson didn't apologize for erroneously giving away billions of taxpayer money. Former Prez Bush didn't apologize for using the WMD deception as basis for his war. Bernanke didn't apologize for his Federal Reserve screwing-up the economy. Why did not the media pursue and demand an apology from each and everyone of these saints?
However, for national interest, security and importance, the big media and their paparazzi now got the apology from Woods after hounding the man and magnifying his sexual exploits out of proportion. The "idiotic Barbara Walter mentality" of the journalists within Big media would like to project themselves as producers of serious journalism when in fact they are but cheap tabloids not qualified for wrapping fish.
It's sad that people feel they're entitled to judge this man. He made great errors, but who hasn't? While I understand that many are of the opinion that he is trying to recover for financial benefits, the truth is, he doesn't need the money. This isn't some whitewash to protect his ego - he just bared his soul to the world. I felt that he was honest, humble, and truly sorry. Not just because he got caught, but because he disappointed those closest to him. I've lived long enough to know firsthand, people CAN change. The abruptness of his 'fall from grace' was so rapid, it left us reeling. But perhaps that was the catalyst to open Tiger's eyes to what changes needed to be made.
I always hated watching golf - BORING. But when Tiger is playing I will make the effort to watch because he embodies greatness in his golf game, not because he's a husband, a father, a son. He owes nothing to me or anyone else outside of those closest to him.
If he is truly a great talent, his talent and continued winnings will trump this hard personal stumble in his life. Though he gave a public apology because he is a public figure, this really is a personal family issue between he and his wife to work out one way or the other. I will not judge him. He is young just in the beginnings of his thirty decade and already a Billionaire. With all that fame power money and stunning women (and men) throwing themselves at you constantly, it's difficult to know how one would handle these circumstances. Tiger has been playing golf since he was practically in diapers. All he has known is hard work and discipline to reach his excellence in golf. He has probably never known a carefree fun loving life. His Dad loved him I'm sure however he probably trained him to a disciplined fault. Getting married was also "responsible" of him. Yes Tiger acted out wrong. We all have our vices and perhaps being young (or old) with the world at your fingertips, no we may not sleep excessively with others but we could get caught up in other things detrimental. It's easy to sit back and judge somebody else's mistakes in life. Perhaps Tiger isn't sorry or perhaps he will use this experience he's had as a young man to help him become a better man as he matures through the ups and downs of life. None of know what challenges we will be faced with during our lifetimes. That is why I will judge no one. It's God's job anyway. Also I am a young person and have had to deal with challenges in my life that I know have made me stronger and wiser. Tiger is not a finished product, he's still maturing. It perplexes me how folks are so ready to write someone off for being human.
The determination and strength of character to get Tiger where he is in his career was extraordinary. It is with hope he turns that determination to achieving control over his addiction. To send positive thoughts is to believe in hope, to send negative ones is to foster failure.
He's only sorry because he ruined his reputation/money. Athletes continue to be role models for youth, they make money on this premise, yet they still do immoral things because they know they have a free pass. Tiger knew exactly what he was doing and didn't care. He's a slime ball and should be used as the poster child for immoral athletes. Maybe then our future athletes will be better role models and learn how not to ruin what they work so hard for.
If you are a Golf Fan, watch most of the tournaments on TV like the NASCAR dudes you know that he carried himself as a completely devoted husband and father. Same with his politics. He stayed away from politics. Then when the press hunts out up to 20 woman who sell out to announce they had sex with him, yes he has an appolgy to make. This also carrys over to all the Professionals and the 1,000's of people in all the clubhouses and maintenance buildings on courses around the world. And all the volunteers that looked up to him and the others. He has been the top dog. I felt he did a good job and I feel that his personal life should not be fodder for a Enquirer type TV show or magazine. He is a warrior and will make a return.
Tiger's personal life is HIS own.. He doesn't need to apologize to anyone for HIS actions. The paid informants from the media got their 5 minutes of fame and "kiss and told".... This is a personal issue between Tiger and his family.. He is a golfer and sex has nothing to do with golfing.....
This story reminds me of the little old lady across the street who snoops on her neighbors in the name of GOD, SAFETY or NATIONAL PRIDE.....Anyone that even gives credence to Tiger's need to apologize is trying to pry too deeply into the bedroom of others..... Get a life and let an athlete be an athlete....... Whatever happens between 2 consenting adults, is not anyone else's business other than those 2 consenting adults....
There is always someone in every crowd that is willing to tell you that personal business is public business for a known celebrity.... That is just another myth or excuse used to take away someone's personal freedom.....
No Crystal.. Evidently you like delving into people's personal life and reading the latest gossip column. Did you get your latest copy of the National Enquirer this week to read... You are one of those people in every crowd willing to spread gossip uncaring of people's personal privacy....
He "would" have been more fun if he had exposed the deviant dude he is from the very beginning, kind of like many movie stars. He hid too much for too long only to shock his sport, fans and family.
I am glad to see common sense prevail and that not all correspondents here are out to hang Woods for his admitted transgressions. The reality is, in fact, that only the future will show his worth as a man and human being.
The fact is that any and all celebrities who do this are not alone in the commission of the dirty deed, whether male or female. Any kind of power corrupts. If we don't acknowledge this, we are not healthy-we have lived with it since birth-regardless of our age now.
There are both men and women who are attracted almost violently to power. They have none, so they position themselves to hook up with another who does. Some have done so just to have the story to sell.
It is easy for the public to demand penance from these people because that is what America has become: the home of everybody trying to control everybody else while never getting their own houses in order. Look at Washington D.C. That, however, is another story.
Tiger was pushed all his life to be the golfer he is. I doubt the 'normalcy' of such a childhood and youth. What was he-3 when he was on the Mike Douglas show?
There are rumors that in his teens he was presented quite openly with his father's philandering and his mother's agony over it. He became, perhaps, the "deviant dude" he is unwittingly. I think his soul must be a terrible dichotomy: the immensely well developed work ethic of his golf is viciously juxtaposed with the cassanova personality traits.
He does not owe me or anybody but his family an apology. The fact that he gave one is admirable. I personally am sick to death of the tabloid mentality of the press. there used to be the tabloids and the evening paper. I used to be able to choose where I read what. Now they are all alike-and TV is all over it as well.
I bet he uses that fake crying routine in this meeting at 11AM.
Money can't buy me love..but sure can buy you sex galore!
Even his old lady married him for the money..easy to see that.
Really? I don't think so.
"under wraps"?...probably.
I don't care about any of this. I just want him to play golf again. Golf absolutely SUCKS without Tiger Woods.
Right. Well Chis, I'm sure glad you and John are here to speak for Elin since you know exactly what she thinks and feels. <sarc>
For $100 million/year you do the best you can.
You are EXACTLY correct BobinATL. Many will not see that truth in what you noted but it is what it is. Well said!
I only believe he's truly sorry for getting caught...kind of like John Edwards.
Aren't we all?
And we profess to be more careful going forward.
I missed it. Did they play Brenda Lee's famous song? If so, that's the only thing that I missed.
bobinatl ..........sounds good on paper but is a weak thought.
Well we owe Tiger nothing as well......Good bye Tiger .....you hack...........
craig speakman -
I agree with you - you covered it all.
Really? and I bet your old lady married you for your dashing good looks only.
Most woman marry after considering all the benefits. Its the way their minds work. I'm not saying that's wrong. just making an observation.
What he really said is "I am so sorry I got caught" and "I will return when it is politically feasable and this whole mess has calmed down".
None of this really matters......he may play golf again, but I don't think he will ever get all the respect back.
Hey Tiger - Go away already. Go play your meaningless game and shut up.
Yeah, I'm sorry for everything I get caught doing wrong...........
debbie, Tiger playing with a chip on his shoulder? Should be pretty fun to watch...the Tiger haters especially. It was so much more acceptable when he was in the right box in their little minds. He's another celebrity whore. Get over it or look in the mirror ask what demons of yours are only being kept at bay by your limited means.
Tiger has no reason to apologize to anyone except for his wife.
If you disagree with this statement, then kindly fill us in on how his actions damaged you on a personal level.
And don't give me that role model garbage. If your child has to search a role model out on TV, then you're one screwed up parent.
Honestly, does it really surprise you that someone named Tiger is addicted to pussy?
He fled the house in the middle of night with no shoes on and wrecked his car. She broke out two windows with golf club. He is doing a diservice to men who are victims of domestic violence. If a woman fled the house with no shoes on and wrecked her car, would the media be asking the question: Will he reconcile with her? They would have female advocates on the tv talking about women being victims of domestic abuse. Where are the MALE ADVOCATES on tv? The whole situation would have been handled different. We don't need to hear from the sports media. We need male advocates on tv.
Nam Vet,
Wow, you said it like it was. I agree.
No he isnt. He is sorry he got caught. It isnt like he was stopping this behavior before he got caught. Being said, I dont really care. Do what you do Tiger. As long as you dont hurt me and mine I could care less.
Tiger won an environmental award for picking up the Most WHITE TRASH.
Unfortunately he Dishonored his Good Name.
Now he's just full of Garbage.
So?! With all that's going on, this is news?
What a bunch of dopes...
Good for him. Now will he just go away? I don't want to watch this 'statement' analyzed to death for the next three weeks. He's rich, he's a jock, he's an ass, some girls will screw anything with money and his wife is blind. That's all there is to it. Get over it PLEASE!
Men who are victims of domestic violence? We always called them fags.
He did the right thing.
now now MsMO, you are startin to sound like the Saudi Arabian and Malaysian government. It takes two to Tango and you cant blame her for trying. It takes a real man to resist the temptation to philander, and thats where Tiger failed.
And when you are a near billionaire in your sexual prime with that kind of temptation and plenty of opportunity, you can show us all how it's done.
It's in the Ho! It's in the Ho!
That is absolute nonsense, not true. According to many media surveys, Muhammad Ali was the most popular and well-known person in the world, athlete or otherwise.
Sorry to get off the topic.
believe it. what a love filled marriage, errrr arrangement they have. I'll pay you to stay. he is a @!$%#ing loser!!!!! he had relationships, not one night stands, huge difference. she needs to finish beating him with the clubs and take the prick for half and leave. I have zero respect for these mousy biatches who, "stand by their man" for the coin.
Its just a matter of time when all the "Lovechilds" start coming forward.
I wonder how many kids this golf "player" really has ?
Jacques-InZhuhai you are absolutely wrong. Ali (Cassius Clay) had a rough start and was hated. Many labeled him as the man you love to hate. He was very colorful and never gave in to the hate and he let his historic skill talk for him. Read up on the days he was hated - it may surprise you. You can start here. Ali is a classic example that public hate can be replaced by respect in time:
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/gameon/post/2009/03/63732077/1
he should of just went and cried on operha
wtf cares the man swings a golf club for a living he wants to cheat its his business.
Mav
Golf sucks period, Tiger did make it worse though.
For $100 million per year you say pretty much what you have to say...or what your PR department writes up.
Totally agree. It's not of our business!
The public didn't demand an apology, the media did. They're the only ones who are really interested in keeping this circus on its legs.
Ditto.
I sure hope you are not raising any children, male or female. Wow. What a warped view.
Pogatch:
I'm a golfer, so I looked into this story.

Yawn
WHat an utter bunch of morons to even care about Tiger's private life. Just STFU and get back on the course already.
I agree with pogatch.
Yawn...who really cares? He peed in his bed, now let him lay in it.
Woods is still an example for many youths in this country. Get rich and get some White.
Tiger, you are a fraud!
Seems like he found Buda?
Does that mean he'd be a born-again?
They all find religion when they get caught. Prisons are full of religious guys !
USN:
I think you may be the person I'm looking for.
I would greatly appreciate your comments.

...don't care!
Athletes, movie stars,politicians...so very few are worthy of the attention we give them.
Lots of golfers this morning wonder what their apology would sound like in front of church and family if they ever got caught.

Ohh, whateve!!! MSNBC really needs better proof-readers.
It's "whatever" and "Woods".
Shut up and go play golf. You are not an elected official.
Proof read and spell check next time.
What was that banging going on ( no pun intended) ? Sounded like some news guy was banging out a story on an old Royal Typewriter from the 50's !
Everyone changes when they are caught.
And they all go to treatment.
This behavior from the same media that hid his transgressions, rather painting him as "The Man everyone wants to be"....who'd have thunk?
Until the heat dies down then it's back to business as usual. This guy will continue to do his thing. This time though his handlers will be more careful of gets close and laid.

And his gorgeous 'wife' will be long, long gone.
Why?
Personally, I think his career is over.
What career would that be?
Tallpuppy...........................Are you sure you want to ask that question? I think it's both his careers. One as a golfer. The other as a stud.
You know he's just dying inside sitting on those blue golf balls!
Tiger for President. I like the way he apologizes.
At least he's not fool enough to say, "I didn't have sex with that woman." Or would it be those women???
He didn't say he was hiking the Appalachian trail.
Even though as a married man he slept with over a dozen women? Would your pastor forgive that? Hm. I bet so.
Pastor would probably be in on it with him. Of course unless if he was a priest, than he'd be after the women's kids.
You , I or my pastor has no right to judge him.
jscs
Any pastor who actually practices what he preaches would forgive that...
Especially if you pay him enough for it.
Like him or not, at least he stood up and publicly apologized. What else is he to do now but move on and learn from this.
lol!! will this be your hope?
The determination and strength of character to get Tiger where he is in his career was extraordinary. It is with hope he turns that determination to achieving control over his addiction. To send positive thoughts is to believe in hope, to send negative ones is to foster failure.
Thanks landspirit- well said
Addiction my great grandmothers behind! This is no addition. This is a power game.
Tiger, you sound LITERALLY like a neo-con who just got caught with his pants down. Sure, it never happened and sure you're 'fixed.'
At least Edwards admitted he was an ass.
We also see how difficult it is to break the records of Nicholas, Palmer and the other greats. Life is a hard road.
Obviously in Tiger's world sex had EVERYTHING to do with golf! He would not have gotten so much ass just being Tiger...lol
P.S. are you living under a rock?
Lots of golfers this morning wonder what their apology would sound like in front of church and family if they ever got caught.
he looks stoned.
