Actually, I'd say it was Garrett Hartley's 3 clutch 40+ yard field goals that kept it close until the Saints' D could close the door...
Agree 100%...was gonna post the same thing....
in the first half, Mr. Freeney rushed Mr. Frees frequently, breaking up QB pattern. second half, no Mr. Freeney and Mr. Frees had much better game.
What`s dat sound? It sounds like dungy eating crow!
Surely the recovery of the onsides kick changed the game's momentum and kept the Saints in the game, but the Colts came back to answer that score and take the lead as if it never happened. The key play was the interception because it upended what looked like a successful 4th quarter game tying drive and a +7 for the Colts to a +7 for the Saints, or what the pundits call a +14 point swing.
Hank Baskett is finally known for something that has to do with football, unfortunately it isn't a good thing. I guess he better let his wife be the popular, and talented one in the family. Yikes!!! It's pretty bad when your wife (Kendra) beats you out in that department too. I can predict the future and so far I'm two for two. I called, that the Saints would upset the Colts, and I called Kendra being more talented then the fool who married her. (I called that one a long time ago). When you make a decision to marry a Braniac like Kendra, You apparently are begging for something. For my next prediction Hank Baskett is going to be a stay at home dad, while his wife puts her G-String and Pumps on to support the family and be the man of the house. Sorry Hank you should of had that ball, they kicked it right into your hands practically.
The interception certainly made the difference in that he scored, but the second half coaching was outstanding! The saints need an edge and they needed to have the colt defence off balance it was just great! The saints defence was on their game too not allowing Manning to just do what he wanted on every play . That two minutes after the saints touchdown was a nail-bitter because you've seen Manning come back and win from that position so many times.I know they are Happy in New Orleans and I was Happy to watch a game that wasnt a blow out and the underdog won playing their absolute best Kudos!
Peyton is the quarterback who always gets the publlicity. How about Frees now? Seems as if he can do as well, in spite of receiving much less attention. The irony?
Peyton is from New Orleans, Frees is from IN.
I've got to admit, no matter who the MVP is, no matter who the coach is, no matter who the water boy is, it takes a team effort to win super bowls. Brees would not have tied the record for receptions if his receivers didn't catch them, the rushers would not get the first down if the line didn't help them, the opponents would have racked up the points if the defense didnt stop them, and the players wouldnt know what to do if the coach didn't tell them. So all in all, people cast ballots just like I did because the choices are limited. But if there had been one called "BECAUSE THEY PLAYED AS A TEAM", it would have certainly been my vote.
Whatever play that changed the momentum ,it was "The Brees and company from there on out.
Great game,Great finish,Sad Tony Dungy.lol
It was not just the one call but the overall agressive apporach to the game by Sean Payton - then the three 40+ field goals.
When you play to win, you have a chance to win. When you play not to lose....you lose.
Kudos to Coach Payton, MVP Drew Brees, Tracy Porter, the Saints Defense, and the ability to play from behind for most of the game! The NO Saints played like Super Bowl Champs!
Definitely the interception ... no interception and the score is likely tied instead of the Colts down 2 touchdowns ... absolutely turned the game upside down for the Colts ... they were running well (not their strength) ... passing well ... unfortunately they couldn't wrap anybody up and tackle!!! ... defense was a little sloppy and that hurt them a lot but it was the interception that iced it ... yeah that interception was the game changer ... at the very least they could have forced an overtime ... Congratulations to the Saints ... great game this year ...
Quotes from commentators:
- The team that scores the most points wins.
- The biggest key to winning is the other team loosing.
- The Saints saw a fork in the road, so they took it.
Some people are clearly overpaid!
Payton totally out-coached Caldwell, plain and simple. I was actually thinking "would be awesome to start the second half with an on-side kick. Indy would never expect it" and then WHAM!, they actually tried it! No guts, no glory. That play, and the ensuing touchdown drive, totally, totally changed the momentum of the game. Of course, had Indy recovered - and they almost did - it may well have resulted in an Indy blowout of NOLA. One of the greates coaching jobs in SB history. A very entertaining game to watch. Though I felt bad for Indy that NOLA received 99% of the press, especially in the hours leading up to the SB - I'm thrilled for the people and city of NOLA. Did you know this SB was actually supposed to be in NOLA, and not Miami? It's true....Katrina cost NOLA the game.
Agree with most of what you say but not sure what press you were watching. In SW Florida 99% of the coverage before the game was all about the COlts and 80% of that was about Manning and how great he was or would be - that aside the game itself has to be the best SB in a long time- a pity one of the most hyped QB in current season was not man enough or rather sportsman enough to congratulate the winners and at a bet will blame everyone else for the loss- maybe now will see less of the annoying commercials with bad sport Payton "over hyped" Manning
Onside kick......... no doubt about it. They never played not to lose, only to win. I love that way of thinking.
