"Who dat say they're gonna beat them Saints? Who dat? Who dat? Who dat say they're gonna beat them Saints? Who dat? Who dat? Who dat say they're gonna beat them Saints?
Football the way it has to be played. Congratulalions to the Saints and to New Orleans Fans who have always stood by the Saints. America is rejoicing with them. (well, almost all America. Sorry Indy.)
Greatest playoff game ever? The 'Ice Bowl' between the Cowboys and the Pack. No better drama than Starr's quarterback sneak over Kramer on a field of frozen ice with no time remaining and the temperature in sub-zero territory. When you add up all those elements it's going to take a lot more than today's great game to match that one.
Makes me with that the NFL was still playing the championship game in winter climates as well as the tropical ones. It's probably those freaky halftime shows that are keeping the games in warm states or covered stadiums. Too bad.
I read it correctly Drill, that's why I specifically stipulated 'playoff' game. Just because the Ice Bowl wasn't labeled the 'Super Bowl' doesn't mean it doesn't have standing in NFL Championship playoff games.
Not the greatest. I'm not sure which was the greatest, but my guesses would be XXXII (Elway beats Favre) or III (Joe Namath). I don't think I need to outline the significance of III. As for XXXII, it was a back and forth game which came down realisitically to the final minute. It ended Elway and Denver's futility streak, so it was a feel good story. It had perhaps the most dramatic/memorable/gutsy Super Bowl run ever (Elway's helicopter). It featured two hall of fame QB's, and a defending Super Bowl championship. It had the greatest overall running performance in a SB (Terrell Davis 150+ yards, even when he sat out most of the 2nd quarter). And it ended years of futility for the AFC, almost the same way III showed the AFL could win. Also, for those who are fans of smashmouth football, it had one of the scariest collisions ever (Atwater and his teammate colliding helmets on the play before the Packer's last chance). The one detraction from XXXII is that the winning TD was scored because Holmgren let Davis score. I understand why he did. But it didn't add to the greatness of the game.
Also, XLII was big when the Giants ruined the Pats run at perfection. The (Eli) Manning to David Tyree grab gets my vote as the greatest play in SB history. And it came down to the last minute as well.
The Saints winning was a good SB. The onside kick was a great call, though the Saints ultimately were lucky on the play. I was rooting for the other side in the SB, but clearly the Saints were more athletic and at the end there was too much pressure on one guy (Manning). Caldwell was outcoached. Frankly, though, there were no memorable hits or truly great plays from scrimmage. The NFC Championship game was far more dramatic. This one didn't realistically come down to the last minute; after Porter's INT, it was pretty much over. Payton did mess up the 4th and goal play, though in the end, they got the field goal they gave up because the Colts couldn't (or wouldn't) do enough to improve their field position. Neither QB's are scramblers, and while I don't believe that running QB's are the way to go at all, it would be nice to have a QB who might scramble every once in a while. Did either QB scramble even once in the game? Sure, they were so efficient that they didn't need to, but the game is a little more boring that way. (Eli) Manning's scramble made the David Tyree pass play happen.
The most dramatic Super Bowl endings are XXXIV (Rams-Titans: Titans almost tying it with time running out at the goal line) and the Bills-Giants (Scott Norwood wide right) and Rams-Pats (Vinatari wins it with a 48 yard field goal). The Pats-Panthers also featured a Vinatari field goal with less than 10 seconds. For this years SB to be ranked among the greats, it needed a dramatic ending. Manning needed to tie the game (and the Colts hold the Saints) so the SB could have its first OT game ever.
I think the last two Superbowls were more dramatic, both with come from behind victories in the last minute of play. But I think this Superbowl will go down in history as one of the best ones simply because the Saints were underdogs, this was their first Superbowl victory and the city of New Orleans deserved a championship not only for the city but for Louisiana and Mississippi for the devastation that Katrina and Bush caused.
So many years....so many times as a child growing up a Saints fan I sat crying in front of the tv, watching the Saints lose again...Tonight I got to hold my two young sons and watch the Saints WIN!! They are too young to remember, but we have pictures and the stories forever.
Probably the best two super bowls both involve the Patriots. Their first win in 2002 over the Rams was a classic. As sad as it is for me to admit, the loss to the Giants in 2008 was the other one.
Katrina caused the devastation, not Bush. He dropped the ball in responding to it, but he didn't cause Katrina.
The fact that New Orleans won after all they'd been through as a city was special. The game itself that they won it in was not particularly special overall, when compared with other Super Bowls. As far as the football odds were concerned, the Saints were an underdog, but not a massive one.
Hands down SB 42- The heavily underdog Giants who "did not stand a chance".. beating the "perfect Patriots" in 2007.
Manning to Burress to win, Manning to Tyree to save a drive and who could forget Jay Alford's sack of Brady to prevent another one of his comeback drives - just classic football.
best one has to be last year's. biggest single play in terms of yardage (100 yard int return AS TIME RAN OUT to end the half) and, perhaps, impact on the game.
then warner comes alive, freed to do no-huddle stuff in second half... looks like a barnburner as the teams unleash their qb's.
the big talk was warner being one of the best ever, but roethlisberger stole the show on that last drive. TWICE. just ridiculous throws AND catches. maybe holmes stole the show. anyway, best defensive play, best pass, best catch in history... two great quarterbacks playing lights out. in terms of drama, heroics, competition and good quality play, i don't think we have seen anything yet to top last year's game.
The best or greatest Super Bowls are always when your team wins! For the Saints and their fans this will always be the greatest Super Bowl because it's their first and the fans who watched will always argue when discussing it. Congrats. to the Saint's and their fans, it was a long time coming. On side kick has to be the gusiest play though.

Wow! Great game. Full of drama and excitement. The game was as it was hyped to be.
Congratulations to the Saints from Boise Idaho!!!! The Saints and all of Louisiana deserved the Super Bowl Trophy!!!!
2007 New York Giants v. New England Patriots, best ever
It was certainly the greatest *I* have ever seen. GEAUX SAINTS!!!! We're proud as hell of you boys. :)

You might want to make sure you read the question correctly next time.

I did kind of like when Indy won their first Super Bowl (though not the Colts first) that it was in Miami and it actually rained during the game.

This game was boring. There are too many interruptions. There are too many ads. The NFL has become another money hungry business .

This was a good Super Bowl, but not nearly the best. I have seen them all, and the best was the Giants-Patriots Super Bowl a couple of years ago.
any super bowl with Green Bay Packers in it...:) But I am very happy for the Saints I sure wish I was in Louisianna celecrating with them...
