I totally agree 100%. They should have banned her for life! Her sister as well, just for good measure. I can't stand those two prima donas. And they are ugly as all hell to boot. Tennis is boring enough to watch without subjecting the audience to having to watch two people who were beaten for at least a year with the ugly stick.
you are just as as stupid as the man who fined her. john mac should have been fined that much but never was. they are not white so you have a problem with them because they are self made money makers and those poor white girls cant beat them.
I do not believe there was any racial involved in assessing the fine amount. If you go back and re-read the punishment John McEnroe had, you will find that it cost him a point, game, or even a match, which was higher than the fine Serena has
Wow NPA, I didn't realize that 12 year olds posted here.
Their crime is that they're dominatingly good? Wish I was guilty.
Her tirade was a terrible display of a typically decent person. I'd like to see the math on the fine. $10,000 for anger, $25,000 for a threat of bodily injury, $25,000 for not apologizing convincingly, $22,000 for ???
Trying to break up her Tennis dominance - priceless.
brilliant- couldnt even make it 3 posts without some idiot - in this case Wendell gets the prize - bringing race into the discussion. Congrats on being the race idiot Wendell, you must be proud, beat that horse and hold your head high!
I think the fine is fair. That dollar amount is pocket change to Ms. Williams. I think she has learned her lesson and I am sure she would like to put the whole ugly incident behind her. I will say that it is not the first time the Williams sisters have shone a lack of sportsmanship.
A fine of $82.5k is a drop in the bucket to Serena but enough to get her attention. The probationary period makes it real and forces her to manage her behavior on the court. It's a great move by the WTA, ATP, and US Open.
Another example of overpaid, overly pampered, over-hyped 'celebrity' athletes. The saddest part is that there are so many wonderful athletes in all sports that never get the attention for how well they play the game or conduct themselves. The spotlight far too often shines on the bad athlete and the media is primarily responsible.
If she had been McEnroe or Connors not a word would have been said. The double standards, where women are not allowed to be heard, is revolting. She should have been fined, she should have a probationary period, but lifetime probation is ridiculous!
People need to read properly: her probationary period is for two years - 2010 & 2011 and in the Grand Slams; if she behaves during that time the probation will be lifted. What, imo, is definitely sad is that there needs to be some kind of punishment for some athletes to behave.
I agree. It is amazing what has happened in the three months since this happened. We had the University of New Mexico soccer player pull a competitor down to the ground and feminists hollered sexism and rallied to the student-athlete's side. When Serena screamed at an official (mind you, the only time she has done such in over a dozen years), no one rallied to her side. This was a wrong call on the linesman. Several replays showed that Serena was right.
Feminists, either come to Serena's side on this or forever be quiet. Rally around her like you did Elizabeth Lambert.
I voted no. No-name players commit greater offenses in every tournament and receive little or no penalties. Punishing Serena for her outburst is like killing the Golden Goose of women's tennis, and will turn the sport into a mild afternoon tea. These are competitive athletes and they are all full of fire. The WTA, ATP can't have it both ways. You want winners and champions, then you have to be willing to go along with the price for that kind of performance. Serena apologized and seemed sincere. Let it go!
The fire should be on the court and performance of play, not whinning about one call. Did that call loose her the tourny? I don't think so. Ya just have to suck it up and play harder.
classic example of disrespecting authority........we can disagree with authority but ther is a right way and a wrong way.....you do so with respect and you should get respect in return. tennis has historically allowed their brats to act , well, ..like brats!
Being the "bad boy" or girl doesn't hurt their image or their pocketbook until they are suspended from tournaments. Fines mean nothing to people with that much money. On the other hand, the companies that pay them millions for endorsements will help them change their attitude if they are not in the major tournaments.
NO! She is being set up as an example. Do they fine men every time they have an outburst? Think NOT!!!! This is a disgrace to women's tennis and may just force her out and into the less stressful business world. She paid one fine, get over it!!!
Federer WAS fined, although not as much as Serena, for using audible profanity - so were two other players. Serena went on a tirade threateaning a lineswoman, and that merited a different kind of fine.
She should have been suspended for one year for her antics. PERIOD! She is a disgrace to the game of tennis.... of which was spawned from class, long standing tradition and, most of all, gamesmanship and sportsmanship...of which none of these qualities she seems to posess.
You gotta be kiddin' calling Serena a "disgrace" to tennis...what planet did you drop in from? Serena is one of the main reasons that women's tennis is on the map. Who uses words like "spawned"? Traditionally tennis has involved men and women displaying gamesmanship and sportsmanship, no one has done it better for years than Serena. Don't try to knock Serena because she is Serena and not McEnroe, Roger and any of the other men who have had outbursts in the game.
What a joke! Yet another example of the double-standards in athletics where men are allowed to drop the f-bomb and carry on like maniacs while women are held to a different standard that attempts to stifle them. For anyone of the mind-set that this outrageous fine is a drop in the bucket for Serena, you're missing the BIGGER PICTURE all together. This is another disgusting, gross example of an issue that plagues our society. Yet, I'm confident that Serena will continue to perform at the highest level, and I will continue to support her.
talk about biting the hand that feeds you - without the Williams sisters, women's tennis has a very limited audience. The WTA hierarchy (or whoever decided the punishment) is not that stupid.
Another abusive sports athlete. These spoiled, overpaid, drug abusing, aggressively violent athletes are such fine role models for our kids. Making millions every year for what... being the best in smacking a ball across a piece of fabric? Come on people, get real. There are way more important and productive people in this world that don't get an ounce of attention.
I voted Yes but it (the punishment) is really not enough.

The fine was fair, but the "probationary period" is over the top. She apologized and everyone needs to move on. Jeez.
she apologized after the sisters won the doubles match, she made no apology after the match that she lost, I think that is a little late.
Well, it is about time!
I voted yes as well and also agree that the fine should have been more....

eeeerrrrrr I think you may need to reread the article. She got a two year probationary period, not lifetime...

I don't know what replays you saw, but the ones that I have seen show Serena on the line.
I voted no. No-name players commit greater offenses in every tournament and receive little or no penalties. Go back and listen to her tirade again. I voted 'yes' and I think it is just fine.
She is a professional. The probation is great. She has no choice but to manage
her anger because the stakes are high. Amen !
NO! She is being set up as an example. Do they fine men every time they have an outburst? Think NOT!!!! This is a disgrace to women's tennis and may just force her out and into the less stressful business world. She paid one fine, get over it!!!
Well if she paid one fine then she apparently didnt learn from it if all this happened again huh????
No. She is fined because she is a woman, Roger dropped the f-bomb on a umpire in a recent tournament nothing was said.
No. It is too severe. Roger dropped the f-word on a official in a recent tournament nothing was said.
The F word is a bit differnet than telling someone they are going to kill them...
That's right. I saw the replay and the lineswoman actually looked scared and fearful. That's no joke.
Federer WAS fined, although not as much as Serena, for using audible profanity - so were two other players. Serena went on a tirade threateaning a lineswoman, and that merited a different kind of fine.

She was fined twice? This is BS. I don't like it. She should have crammed the ball down her throat.
So, you think she should have been more violent? Well, that certainly is the way to avoid fines and suspension...
She should have been suspended for one year for her antics. PERIOD! She is a disgrace to the game of tennis.... of which was spawned from class, long standing tradition and, most of all, gamesmanship and sportsmanship...of which none of these qualities she seems to posess.

She should have also been suspended for at least one GS.

I vote yes for her and many other spoiled , unsportsmanlike athletes.Bad behavior in hockey, football etc should not be tolerated..
