Allen Iverson is set to retire from the NBA, according to an online report. Commentator Stephen A. Smith published a statement on his Web site Wednesday attributed to Iverson. It says Iverson plans to retire but also that "I feel strongly that I can still compete at the highest level."

I hope someone will take him- have always enjoyed the little man play- he is exciting to watch and I think he still has enough to make it in the league.

Iverson wouldn't have to retire if he was willing to accept a secondary role. That has to say a lot about his personality. Yes he's competitive, but he's also selfish. There's no, what's best for the team, with Iverson. A contending team probably would take a chance on him if he accepted a smaller role. Yes he still can play at a high level, but no team is willing to sacrifice chemistry because he still wants to be the man. That’s why he didn’t last in Memphis.
He should let his skills rather than his ego talk for him. Does he really still want to play or is it all this silly posturing.
I remember draft day when the 6er's took him and thought, good player. Than I later realized what a jerk this guy is. His skills aside, he has to be one of the worst team mates to have in and team sport. If, he makes the NBA HoF, what team will want him to dawn their jersey? What team would he want to go into the hall as a respresentitive? Both would have the answer, none of the above. He won't be that missed.
Allen, go to Europe.

This really is a sad thing that is happening right now. The fact that no team is willing to take one of the best players to ever play the game?! That is just plain bizarre. It does show you where the league is heading to nowadays. And the style of play they are now catering to.
