Like some great players, Iverson might be remembered for the next 5-10 years for what he wasn't. But like all great players, history will remember him for what he was - a Hall of Famer, an MVP and one of the great pure scorers ever - one of those few talents who could singlehandedly wrangle a team into the NBA finals.

Whatever...he was and will continue to be a diva, an attention hog and an overall pain.
Allen Iverson is tha $h|t...so 4get all yall hatin @$$ ppl...i dont think he should retire hes personally my favorit player. He still has alot left in him and for a team
Ball hog. Team with him on it could never win a championship because he always put himself ahead of the team. Doesn't know the meaning of the word "team".
All you bed wetters hatin' on Iverson could never walk in his shoes. This guy accomplished alot. Here is a guy is only 6'1, and was makin' mafukas look silly on the court, plus with his trade mark crossover. Don't hate the playa, hate the game. Sixers fans will always love Iverson. He filled our seats.
George Karl says the Iverson is the greatest small man ever to play in the NBA. He must have forgotten Calvin Murphy, not to mention the real greatest small man, Nate (the Skate).
Iverson has always been about himself, not the team. That disqualifies him from consideration as gratest anything.
Iverson is da man. He had his problems but I love to watch him play. I suspect now his body is starting to wear out. He has played through a lot of pain.
Without Iverson, Philly would not have restored any credibility as a franchise and when he left they returned to mediocrity. They were meant for each other and blame can be placed on both Iverson and the team, he was about winning. For all of you haters, like it or not he will be a Hall of Famer and that does not happen unless you are a baller. There are a few great players that never won championships but few six footers that could carry a team to the finals.
Iverson wasn't a team player. Since he couldn't carry a team by himself, his teams suffered. If there were a basketvall efficiency statistic that measured his contribution divided by the amount of time a player had the ball, Iverson would never make for the Hall of Fame.
Never said I hated the man. Didn't know him personally so how could I hate him? Just didn't like his style of play and apparent inability to play team ball.
At the end of the day a players body of work will be the thing that they are measured by and not championships (John Paxson 3 rings, Devon George 3 rings, John sally 4 rings, Henry Finkel 3 rings Craig Hodges 3 rings and I can go on and on and few of these will be remembered and none will be Hall of Famers). There are many great players that have never won championships and many more that have not played for one. Iverson will be a first ballet Hall of Famer. What he has done at six feet is exceptional and no one can take that away. You may not like him but you can't take away what he has accomplished, 27.1 ppg over 14 years speaks for it self, not to forget that he is also one of the career leaders in steals.
In his prime, he was an aggressive player, who could take over a game and attack the basket relentlessly. Recently, his inablility to distribute the ball and make his team mates better, overshadowed his ability to score. His refusal to fit into a team concept, which did not allow him to control the ball, led to his demise. Compare him to Ray Allen, who could score 25 points, any night of the week but chose to play a "role" with the Celtics or Chauncy Billups, who did what was necessary, but produced results, on a nightly basis. Allen went to a playoff contender in Denver and made them worse. His refusal to come off the bench and play a role in the context of a "team" and sacrifice his ego and touches, makes him unmarketable. Some team will make him an offer, New Jersey, comes to mind and he might come out of retirement. He could sit out for a year and change his mind, like a Stephon Marbury. We'll see?! His ablility to produce points, create his own shot, and hustle, is still there. No one ever doubted his heart...or his passion for the game, so it will be sad for his career to end on this note.
All you people that talk about Iverson this and that, I wish you all grow up and give honor to whom honor is due, this little man plays his heart out in all game and have achieve a whole lot for NBA. The down fall of a Man is not the end of his life, Iverson will raise again and this time I reserve my comment.
Practice...we're just talkin 'bout pratice Later loser!
"But we're talkin' 'bout practice....not a game, not a game...we talkin' 'bout practice"..classic.
He'll best be remembered for the lil punk @$$ he is and how he ruined every single NBA team he was on. Good riddance!
The press distorted Iverson and his accomplishments. If you really want to know about the man and his accomplishments, ask his teamates.

Iverson is a CANCER! When people stop mentioning his name, his dumba@@ will just fade away.

So true, I wear a 12.5 and his would give me some bad a$$ blisters.
I always wished AI would just swallow some of that pride and get himself a ring. Maybe without that pride he would not of been so good though.

Let's take a walk down memory lane, shall we? 4 teams, 4 ugly endings...
1st team, Philadelphia: falling out with the coach because he wasn't star of team anymore.
2nd team, Denver: same result
3rd team, Detroit: same result
4th team: Memphis, same result
Does anyone see a pattern here? Divas will continue to be divas, no matter where they are or what situation they're in

Carry a team to the finals, but he's never won...there's a difference, nobody remembers the finals losing team

He is human and have right to express how he feel
Played his heart out?! He's a lil whiny brat who demands attention and then b*tches when he doesn't get it.
Great ballplayer ... passionate, intense, entertaining, and superb!
How can those of us who have never been that great, at that level, hope to understand his mind-set?
