i just hope for the fans sake that ND gets it right this time. They need to really go back and evaluate the mistakes they have made over the last few years. For example, giving Charlie Weis a ten year contract, firing Tyrone, Bob Davie. This university has made bad decision after bad decision on coaches. ND really has to make a good decision this time around because as a fan I am getting tired of seeing the same disappointment every year. Swarbrick needs to make smart decision for once!
The issue was decided during the Pittsburgh game, if not at the Navy game. Notre Dame under Weis can play exciting football. Clausen, Tate, and Floyd are future NFL stars, thanks in part to Weis's abilities as an offensive coach. But their defense is awful--and, if anything, it has gotten worse over the course of the season.
When Lou Holtz and Ara Parseghian were at Notre Dame, you expected the team: a.) to beat every weak opponent; and b.) to win every close game. Under Charlie--even more than under Willingham or Davie--you expected them to lose frequently against weaker teams--and to lose at least half of the close games.
The party's over. I wish Charlie well--but it will have to be somewhere other than South Bend.
does he really get $40 million if he is asked to resign?
In the midst of the worst Recession the bigger story of whether he should stay or go is the money that he is owed and Notre Dame apparently can afford to pay without blinking an eye.
What if there was a 100% chance of Clausen and Tate staying if Charlie stays? Assuming a new Defensive Coordinator and Defensive coaching staff, some top notch Defensive recruits, and some 5 star Offensive Linemen recruits, would any of the NO votes change to YES for one more year (at least the NO votes who want ND to win)? Without Clausen/Tate, the 2010 season is likely 6-6 kind of "rebuilding" year at best, and, at worst, a 3-9 kind of bust. All of the assumptions I stated above are at least possible if Charlie stays for one more year and goes recruiting asap. If Charlie gets canned, all of these assumptions are either highly unlikely or impossible. Swarbrick could say to Charlie "stay for one more year if Clausen and Tate stay and agree to a new one year contract to replace the 10 year deal." ND gets to compete for a BCS championship in 2010, instead of watching throw away season.
I love it when their homer announcers, with their eyes misting, still put on a brave face while describing yet another loss. Almost like " Why has God forsaken us?!".
I love Notre Dame, after last weeks game I felt like a loved one had died.I put alot into the team over the last 2 yrs spent alot of $$ on ND stuff went to games.I got all my family ND shirts&jerseys for x-mas,why have a #7 or #23 jersey if there in the NFL.Yes its my own fault but I still fill scamed, cheated. How many items did ND sell and all ND fans thinking good year 2009 great 2010 we payed for next year they should all have to come back and give the fans what we payed for a great season a BCS GAME why let CW get out rich for nothing.
Watching notre dame lose is funny. I hope Charlie stays forever. But it really doesn't matter. The last two coaches were barely above .500, too. Outside of being a curiousity, notre dame is not even relevant in college football.
Would love to see Charlie have one more year. Some of the most exciting games I have ever watched was ND this year. Whether it be the mystique of "Rudy" or just the "Irish" it was just plain ole excitng to watch this year. Everyone the Irish play always bring their " A " game. Give em hell Charlie. Come back for one more.
Notre Dame hasn't had a decent coach since they screwed up and fired Lou Holtz. Now Lou was a REAL coach everyone could be proud of, and not some blubber-gut waddling up and down the sidelines sucking snot off of his upper lip.
Their opponents need him to stay.
A resounding NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This has gotten my 'Irish' up!

I love watching the spoiled-brat Irish and their fans lose. Keep Charlie Weis!
