Blyleven: The New York Yankees are back on top of the baseball world, celebrating their record 27th championship. So how did they get here, and what do they have to do to stay there? Do we have another dynasty in the works? Let's take a look.

Yankees should keep Matsui and Damon, granted Matsui has wobbly knees, and Damon has a week throwing arm, but both if these guys are clutch players with
big bats and more than make up for their short comings. Maybe Nady will be
back and if I were the Yankees I would sign Pettite and pick up one more
top pitcher. You can never have too much pitching, and maybe they can modify
Brett Gardners hitting style to make his bat more productive, he is a outstanding
center fielder with blazing speed on the bases also.
Thank you, dynasty talk is way too premature. Let's save all this repeat talk to spring training. I am still enjoying this victory let me savor it a bit before we talk about next year.
This was one of if not the best analysis of the Yankee's I have read: balanced, accurate and pragmatic. I assume the real question is does the Yankee's have the talent to continue to be the best team in baseball? That answer also requires a detailed assessment of the competition and that is a challenge. Health both mental and physical are a big factor as well as management. Many thought the Met's would have a very good season but injuries took their toll. If the Yankees stay reasonably healthy even with some of their core aging or perhaps gone, they will still remain the top contender.
As an aside the Phillies only lacked some additional pitching and if they can address that they may very well be meeting the Yankees next October.
The other highly competitive teams are very good, are well known and what makes the Baseball Season interesting and fun to watch.
Bert, a great article.
