If the NFL wants to add more regular season games to the schedule, then it absolutely must eliminate most "pre-season" games. Too many players are injured before the "regular" season begins.
The players train almost all year, with everyone starting the season at the same fitness level. If the league wants "pre-season" games play one or two MAX!!
Sixteen games is more than enough for a season of football. The NFL should stop sacrificing the players' health for the sake of the owners' already deep pockets.
A much better solution would be to add one extra regular season game and move one of the (preseason games) to the regular schedule. In other words, reduce the preseason games by one, and add that game to the regular schedule. Many a player gets injured in pre-season games; for what? Football is a physical, contact sport, the players bodies don't know if it's preseason or not. If they play, they are subject to get injured. Make as many games count in the regular season schedule as possible!
just drop it. leave it as it is. maybe even subtract a preseason game or two. its all about the money and goodell just wants that revenue. but what about the players health or the records that would get obliterated? a 2000 yard rushing season would be the norm.
I think 18 games can be done and have only 3 pre season games. Like the article says, changes are needed for roster size and injuries. Get rid of injured reserve and make a disabled list. I wonder how many players that are put on IR in the first game could have actually come back near the end of the season. Set guidlines on how the DL is used like in the other pro sports. The roster size has to be increased also, although the greedy owners will fight that due to increased payroll.
I have about ZERO sympathy for any NFL player who's makin' almost a MILLION per game and gets "hurt". Sorry....just no sympathy at all. Hell....put ME on a field for that amount PLEASE!!!! I'll deal with a broken leg or whatever, trust me! lol
I assume that you are a young person. Now, assuming that you would even make the pros -- please look hard at the tiny percentage of college players who do -- think beyond the glory and the money to your retirement (again assuming that you don't suffer a sudden career-ending injury in your first or second season). How cool would it be to spend your remaining years in physical and emotional pain, and a large part of your income (assuming you have any) on health care costs that your contract or league doesn't cover? How great would that be for your wife or girlfriend (assuming she will stay around) and your kids?
LOL...What planet are you from again? These guys are making millions a YEAR, not a lifetime. Yeah, I'll take the money and the risk. I hurt from my employment and I make a LOT LESS money. If you are scared you might get hurt and don't want to take the chance then get a REAL job. GET OVER IT!!!
Puck2u, why don't you check out the references in my post. Curt Marsh had to have his foot removed from his years playing pro ball. The others have dementia, fused vertebrae, arthritis, joint replacements, and the list goes on. Be enlightened, read what really happens to players. Unitas couldn't close the fingers on his right hand to sign his name and the NFL said he wasn't disabled or that he filed after 55, which is when the nerves finally stopped working in his arm and hand. Is a million dollars worth a foot, an arm, the inablity to walk, or having to be hand fed and dressed every day????
NFL also means No Fun League with 18 games! It is called BORING! No one eats pizza every day because you simply get tired of it. I only watch 50% of my favorite teams now because there is "always" another game coming up!
NFL also stands for Not For Long League. Two things will happen- first fans fatigue comes into play and viewership drops. Example: The Jaguars are blacking out games not a game but "games! Second, players will burn out mind wise and body wise!
And last but not least: the NFL will have to sign college players who truly are "NOT"
NFL quality and a watered down NFL will really turn people off!
I love football season, but I don't want or need any more games played to enjoy it more.
IMO an extended NFL season would only mean more money for greedy league executives and owners; less playing time and shorter careers for players (the referenced articles above say it all about how much the league really cares); and less enjoyment for fans as their favorites leave the game too soon and perhaps for good.
Big money doesn't make a serious game injury or the years of a pain-filled retirement any easier. Ask any ex-pro's wife and family about the NFL's health care plan for former players.
There is no reason for two more games other than greed and profit taking. Its absurd. Bad enough the "Boys of Summer" are now the Boys of "Spring, Summer and Fall". bad enough we get snow up this way already in Spring and Fall. Ridiculous. The NFL will go into into the season of Bermuda Shorts and Tropical Shirts. BSTS League

No way, The sport is brutal enough! If they eliminated the pre-season, I would be all for it..
There are more college players that would love the opportunity to make that kind of money. And so would I.

Be careful what you wish for; you may get it.

adding two more games smacks of two things...stupidity and greed
