An unfortunate "rule" kept them from competing last year for what they would have had. Laugh at my vote now, but forgoing injury, I'll laugh last.
This is how the top 10 rankings should be; No. 1 Texas, 2 USC, 3 Alabama, 4 Ohio State, 5 Oklahoma State, 6 Penn State, 7 Boise State, 8 BYU, 9 California, 10 Oklahoma. Florida does not even deserve to be in the top 10 because of their joke of a schedule.
Having an easy schedule doesn't qualify a given team from being No. 1. The issue here is who the best team is, not who has the hardest schedule. Sure, Charleston Southern's no good, but Florida did to them exactly what was expected of them, given the hype surrounding their team. I think the real question here is: if BYU and Boise State both run the table, who's better? BYU's certainly got the tougher schedule, but will the BCS only allow one team to "bust" it?
Hey isn'tchangegood! Does anyone have a bigger "joke" schedule than Texas? While a few teams schedule legitimate out of conference teams, TX continues to schedule ridiculous high school teams as a warm up to a weak Big 12 schedule. Along with Florida, TX should not have any top 10 consideration.
i guess jarmo beat me to it, but... how can you say florida can't be number 1 because of their schedule? have you seen Texas' schedule? I think the Texas School for the Blind at Tyler is their next game...
To answer the question "Who Should be Ranked No. 1?":
First, anyone with a loss should not be ranked above a team with a perfect record. e.g. last year where Florida was "annointed" by the BcS, even with their loss to UNRANKED Miss., Utah should have been ranked No. 1.
And, of course, again this season Florida is ranked #1 ------------- so far with their big win over uhhhh Charleston Southern?????, who? is that a high school or a convent?
well if they're a high school team that says a lot for Alabama.

Shows you know nothing about sports. Strength of schedule must be considered, otherwise powerhouse school will drop out of their conferences and play nothing schedules (like Utah) in hopes of winning one big game so they can claim the national championship.
Florida needs to play Division 1A teams. Its schedule is a joke.
Florida plays in the sec!! regardless of who they play in non-conf games, they still have to compete in one of the if not the conf with the best teams. Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss.!! 4 SEC teams are ranked in the top 10 of the USA Pre-season poll! Ten SEC teams are ranked in the top 40 of that poll!!
HELLO Tepper FLORIDA will be playing Div 1 teams!! Everyteam has at least one easy game on it's schedule! Did you not see who FLORIDA beat along it's path to the NC game! The SEC is the BEST conference in the US. We know what football is all about. PAC10 should be the PAC 1 ( alibiet USC is a Semi pro tream), Big 10 is down again, Big 12 ia all about O and not much D. ACC is a joke, or as we call it the American Cupcake Conference. Jealous your team does not have Tebow and BTW he played less then a half of the game yesterday - rest of the game was played by 2nd and 3rd team players!
The SEC is just a bunch of chumps. Georgia got their ass kicked and Florida is a joke because their non-conference schedule is a joke. Florida is too scared to play anybody from the west because they know they will get their asses kicked. Atleast Georgia and LSU are not afraid of a tough non-conference schedule. USC wanted to play Florida next season but Florida chickened out because they are a bunch of pussies and crybabies. They should not be no. 1 until they play a real opponent. Florida should not even be in the top 10 in the nation because of their pussy schedule.
FUNNY how we played the #1 ranked team last Dec we beat them and them again in played the #1 team in Jan for the NC - golly gee beat them again - so cut the hogwash. Funny how the SEC chumps have a way of beating the Big 12 is it not????? I say yo have Gator pussy envy!
When was the last time a poll in the first week of the season predicted the ultimate winner? Vote Florida #1 for now, love it, it's the kiss of death. Go 'horns!
USC had a tougher schedule. If they win all their games, they will be # 1.
Penn State should be ranked #1 in all polls. Every other school should bow down to the Mighty Pennsylvania State University Nittany Lions. We Are Penn State........
Wow!!! I love the passion. Unfortunately, passion doesn't allow for logic. The BCS is an institution created to drive revenue back to the NCAA and the member schools. Therefore, every decision they make is tainted by greed. After lengthy discussions at my house, my Cane Corso, Asia has come up with the top five list: 1.Florida+Texas tied 3. USC 4. Alabama 5. Tennessee. Big Orange is the sleeper this year. Asia likes their mascot. And please MSNBC, stop talking up Notre Dame, they are ass hats.
Well, my Daug Barkely likes perennial NFL minor league team USC. Agree schedule strength is deceptive, since winning all BIG games trumps. Have to say Florida at #2, Bama at #3, with little 12 and 10 teams filling most of the other 7 slots after lots of round robin losses among themselves. Oh yeah, Barkely barks for Boise State, handed it to Oregon handily. ND is all smoke and mirrors, media darlings.
NBC has to talk up Notre Dame. It's in their contract along with game coverage. Plus if ND goes undefeated (as if) they will be #1. They always have a tough schedule and the voters want them #1 if their record justifies the placement.
Ok I spoke to both of my 130 lb Great Pyrenees who did go to college but are big enough to take on most mascots. The only one they didn't want to take on was Bevo and they barked they would eat A&M's revelie for breakfast. Beyond that they replied "no comment"
For someone to say the SEC is anything less than the best is ludicrous. The records speak for themselves. The winner of the "BNFL" will be your NC. Will it be Tebow again or will Saban Nation rise? For now just sit back and watch the future pro-bowlers play!!!!!
SEC is less than the best! USC consistently is gutted by the NFL draft, often twice as many picks any SEC team. Yet the Pac 10 teams, who by the way won ALL their Bowls last season, seem to be the only ones who can beat them, excepting Vince Young.
Let's make this simple. If Florida played the other top ten teams during the regular schedule, who would be left to play in the championsip game? Nuff said!
Hey Jerry F... we try that with a regular season every year... See, they play about 10 games and at the end we see who is the best. But...
When is the last time Florida went undefeated?
GatorHeaven, circle the wagons...we are being attacked by any number of imposters.
BYU would have beaten Oklahoma by 20 if they hadn't had 4 turnovers...
Looks like BYU should play Florida!
OU would have beaten BYU by 20 if they hadn't had turnovers of their own... and you might have seen they lost the Heisman trophy winning QB just before half time... HELLO?
Really none of thismeans much until they have all played at least 6-7 games and we really see how the season will play out. I admit it is fun and keeps us all interested but rankings until mid-season don't mean anything.
Originally from Bama, and now in Texas for 10 years. From what I've seen, the SEC is tougher all around than the Big 12. When you look at stats from both conferences, the SEC rules the nation. Also, if you aren't in the SEC, or the Big 12, you don't count. Talk about pussy schedules. USC, Penn State, and Notre Dame are all overrated. Miami has a better chance of winning the NC this year.
And by the way I am not a Florida fan, I bleed Blue & Maize, but the fact is until someone beats the defending champs they are #1.
Where the heck is Navy on the list? They outplayed & embarrassed Ohio St.- love it,LOVE IT!
