With all the money it took to hang it up there someone shoulda seen to it that it was high enough. I hope no one's around if one of those big bad Texas storms comes up!

Toured the stadium in July 2009. The guide told us they took the Dallas punter, took him to Alamodome and had him punt. Starting point was 75 feet. He hit it at 75 ft and then at 80 ft. Could not hit the scoreboard at 85ft so they added 5ft and put the board at 90ft. At the time of the tour I was thinking this was not a very good test.

I'm not sure I understand why the owner even planned it this way to begin with..... Sure, they can get away with that in basketball arenas, but players only throw the ball, they don't kick it high into the air. I don't watch a lot of football anymore, but when I do watch a game, I don't want to watch a ball drop like a stone to the middle of the field and the players standing around scratching their heads wondering what to do next. So what, are they going to add more rules just for Dallas games or ask kickers to 'keep it low'? What are they going to do, fine the players for hitting it or, even better, make them pay out-of-pocket for any damages caused during games?

Considering that the Dallas punters will be able to practice their kicking at their home field while visiting punters will not, the screen presents a tactical advantage to the 'Girls. I wouldn't put it past Jerry seeking whatever advantage he can finagle. So, it does behoove the league to force him to raise the screen as it is an obstruction to fair play.

Maybe the advertiser on the space below the screen will be satisfied with Jerry wearing one of those sandwich boards every time he is seen in public.

Cowboy Haters are all over this I see. Jerry Jones is a smart business man. He has increased the value of the Cowboys beyond that of any team owner in the NFL. That said I agree the scoreboad must be raised. Jerry is just holding his ground to get the NFL to foot part of the bill. I call that smart. He followed their rules and got their blessing to hang the innovative scoreboard so if their approved ceiling is too low they should share the cost to raise it. Its just a matter of time before some other team copies the idea and hangs a board like it themselves. A 1.2 billion dollar masterpiece state of the art stadium and all you folks can do is find fault with the scoreboard. This is an easy fix. And just for thr record, I believe Tennesse tried ti hit the board deliberately to get all the anti Cowboys folks riled up.

If the NFL approved it, how can anyone say it is JJ's responsibility to pay for the change. Everyone loves to hate on the Cowboys and seemingly ignore or gloss over every other issue with every other team. Kinda makes ya wonder why. Get over it and re-play the down when a punt hits the screen. McBriar himself said that if a guy TRIES to hit it, he can...but otherwise it is not an issue. Now WHY would a punter try to hit it??? Seems to me a punter should be trying to get his team the best field position. Hitting the screen is not the way to do that.

People are losing thier homes, old peeps are paying up the A$$ in healthcare, Vets are living under bridges, and we are gonna cozy up next to the fire and whine about whether a damn megatron should be lifted another 20 or so feet to make everyone more happy...

NFL guidance, the statute states that the Megatron not only respects the height requirement for an indoor object above the field but its a full 5 feet above the required height of 85 feet. So, when the contractors had the building built, it was within limits and therefore should not be moved. Thats just black and white logic.

If the ball hits the stupid thing, well...there is no rule in the rule book for that scenario is there...well what if a bird gets hit by a punt in an open stadium? what happens then? Are they going to put bird nets all over the place or have automatic bird sniping machine guns emplaced? Probably not, but I think common sense here is that it costs too much money just to move a Megatron solely for the purpose of allowing a pigskin ball to fly with negligible flight disturbance so that the opposing team can run it back. It would be a CRAP LOAD simpler to just adjust the rule book for it. The best sounding option is to just rekick, its only gonna "waste" a few more minutes of time. Throw on some more commercials, sell a few more Megaginormous expensive Diet Cokes and shut the f up about it.
