As a huge Packer fan, I can honestly say that people here in Wisconsin put Brett Favre on a pedestal. He was looked up to by all and no one thought he could do any wrong, even with the interceptions. With that sais,it was excruciating every year when we waited on pin & needles for him to decide whether or not he would come back. When he did, we rejoiced. When he retired, we cried. That was in March, then in April he said he changed his mind, but quickly changed again. The draft was coming, we needed to move on. It was hard to hear him going to the Jets, but going to the Vikings is the worst thing he could ever do to packer fans. He is doing this solely for himself, as his ego has gotten bigger than a football field, and I have lost all respect for him. In my mind, he is tarnished forever!!!
In the last five years or so, football has become so boring - there's no continuity from year to year. Teams used to be able to hold onto a great backup quarterback. Now, in between long commercial breaks, you find the team has several different players and even a new coach. I hated Brett Favre for years, watching the 49er's for prey to his team for so many years. Now, he is the only "old dog" left in the NFL. I'd love to see him continue to play. All it takes is someone to hire him - no one's holding a gun to a team owners head.
ain't nobody's binness but his own. And the guy who offered him the money. The media should chip in a couple of mil to help pay Brett's salary. He's done more for lazy writers than TO.
Favre has shred any remaining love he had with the Packers fans and has singlehandedly restored Bart Starr to the pinnacle of the greatest Packers QB's. He will be respected but the love is over. Favre will be remembered like Barry Bonds will always have a * next to his name for steroids. Bart Starr remains a class act to friend and foe alike, acting as a living legend should.
No way is his legacy tainted. He DID set those records and no one can take that away. As for off the field, he's one classy guy and down to earth man who LOVES to play football. Anyone who has played a sport they love can relate!
My last comment on this. Honest. I would love to see the Vikings succeed after the many times they had a chance to win the SB and didn't. But I would hate to see all the fans hopes raised as they were in NY with Mangenius and Favre for the Jets fans who ultimately saw him fold like a cheap suit at crunch time. If they can protect him, and his arm holds up will be the big questions, because I really think his mental approach is that he believes he can still make the great throw through a brick wall and the eye of a needle in any situation when he can't. He will attempt that kind of throw rather than tossing it away, and I think that will lead to disaster, unless he is closely controlled. But as I said, it would be nice to see the Vikes do it all. I really think the Bears are the team to beat in the NFC now that they have a true QB.
The NFL is turning to all star wrestling scenario's for the ratings ... as the NFL turns.... Days of our NFL... bla bla revengeful tactics never make any one's legacy look better..
Well, after the weekend pre-season game against the vaunted KC Chiefs it is clear that Favre will lead the Vikes to the SB for sure. A solid 4 yards in passing, and the arm felt good. Will master the play book shortly. This all sounds a lot like the Jets QB from last year. Good luck Vikes.
