Who is the best NFL running back of all time?
Mon Aug 17, 2009 3:00 PM EDT

Only one running back the the history of the NFL averaged over 100 yards per game for HIS ENTIRE CAREER. It begins and ends with Jim Brown. And oh by the way, he was maybe the toughest guy on his entire Cleveland team. One guy almost never brought him down.
Most dominant... Eric Dickerson hands down. Often times looked unfair when he ran, like a man among boys....Jim Brown was similar. The rest of em were awsome too, but not like these two.
give me a break! who is the all time leading rusher? Emmitt Smith hands down!!! jim brown and walter payton also great but emmitt is the rushing leader. how can that be overlooked?
1. Barry Sanders 2. Jim Brown 3. Walter Payton 4. Gayle Sayers 5. OJ Simpson
Earl Campbell just misses. Sanders was simply unbelievable even though opponents were always able to key on him due to the Lions lack of support. He was constantly breaking tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Brown was a man amongst boys, Payton could do it all, with the heart of a Lion (or should I say a Bear), Sayers had the best moves ever (too bad about his knee), and OJ had the moves with world-class speed. Emmitt Smith...? Highly over-rated.
terrel davis should be there. the man was a super bowl mvp, league mvp, back to back super bowl winner, 2008 yards rushing in one season. 7607 career rushing yards with a 4.6 yard per carry average. 1280 yards receiving. he accomplished this in basically 6 seasons. after he got hurt he was never the same.
terrel had excellent speed, excellent moves, and he would run over people when necessary. if gayle sayers is in the top 5, terrel should be too. terrel was a team player. he was an excellent blocker. shanahan took him out of many games early because the broncs were so far ahead. terrel deserves to be in the top 5 and the hall of fame.
Before he had his off field problems he was a problem for defenses. O.J. has 2 be in starting lineup. He got his 2000 in what a ( 12 ) game season!
gale sayers without question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
eric dickerson was a p---y, afraid to take hit.
Jim Brown Never had 16 game seasons, let alone 14 game seasons. I agree: #1. through #5 is Jim Brown. After that....
The greatest combination of speed (to out run cornerbacks and safetys) and brute strength (to run over and through linebackers) was possessed by Earl Campbell. And, he did so with a mediocre offensive line. Never saw anything like him, before or after. More speed than Jim Brown, more power and strength than any of the others listed. His only liability was his longevity. He was the greatest I have ever seen.
Barry,10yrs,15k yards, took Emmitt,15 yrs,Jim was bigger than the linemen, walter was great, but #2..If Barry would have played for 15 yrs,he would have amassed over 21k yards easily..and i think barry quit after 9 yrs...
