Michael Vick is a sadistic creep who got his jollies using his bare hands to kill defensless dogs. Something is wrong in his dna. I will boycott all Eagles games and products. I never with to lay eyes on this man again. He should just disappear.
Let's see, the NFL has been well known for allowing criminals to play reguardless of how henious thier crime maybe. There has been 308 arrests and citations involving NFL players since 2000 most with a fine or suppension from the NFL and then allowed to return to play. What a great way to show the youth around the world how you can have very little repercussions and no responsiblity for ones actions. speaks volumes in refelection of how our society has loss control. The NFL is well on it's way to be coming that of the roman coliseum with it's criminal gladiators.
Het Batman, you don't think what he did was "negative."? I think it does deserve some negative comments. What's wrong in this country is people think it was probably his childhood, etc, it's always someone else's fault. You can tell by his interviews the only thing he's sorry about is he got caught.
I think the Eagles and the NFL need to feel a little heat for this stupid decision.
I agree with you Skiddy. More importantly, one must understand some basics. Vick is not the same as Andy's boys who have drug addiction. He is a man who knowingly and purposely tortured and killed animals for his enjoyment. He was photographed laughing at their suffering. Some of the animals were his family pets. The problem lies within moral development. You can have sound moral development while experiencing drug addiction. You understand it is wrong, distructive and negative. It is not a shock when faced with the ramifications. However, Vick's actions indicate he does not have moral development. He was okay with his behavior until he was caught. He promoted it. He enjoyed it. He had no empathy or sympathy for the animals. How this relates to moral development is that if you do not have it by age 14---you are not going to get it. As a grown man, he may tempor his behavior to preserve his income, but he is not a 'changed man'.
understand this basics in the area Vick grew up in dog fighting was taught and shared through generations and generations and no one was there to tell him this is wrong. if you grew up with something as 'entertainment" you dont have the knowledge that it is wrong . You are what you are taught now he was causght and gets it - maybe he can help others moral development for him at age 14 was dog fighting. It was wrong but in the poor deep south it is a fact. Get over yourself how do you know he is not changed. U dont everyone deserves a second chance.
"if you grew up with something as 'entertainment' you don't have the knowledge that it is wrong"
are you serious?!? By your twisted logic, the Nazis in Germany who were brought up to hate, torture and murder Jews for 'entertainment' didn't know what they were doing was wrong? Cold-blooded killing of animals like Vick did with his own hands, is exactly the kind of behaviour many serial killers exhibit before they move on to humans. But according to you, any kind of inhumane and savage conduct is justifiable since the perpetrators don't have an innate sense of right and wrong. I feel sorry for you.
maddog that is a shaky argument at best. Vick is not going to move on to humans. There is a difference between killing them for "sport" and just killing them to kill.
We are so willing to demonize Vick for what he did, but we praise others who have done the same thing. Sad
Everyone makes mistakes, maybe not of this magnitude; but, EVERYONE needs redemption at some point in their lives. I choose to think that the remorse is sincere. I truly believe that Michael Vick will be able to do more for animals in the future, and can't do anything other than go to prison, publicly apologize and live in embarrassment for those animals he hurt in the past. If we don't allow him to redeem himself, are we not doing to him what he stands accused of doing to those dogs.
I do not support cruelty to animals either.. but if you think about ab(use) of animals for sport, it just doesn't stop with dogs...does it?
Do you know how many dogs are hurt/maimed/killed in Iditarod race every year?
What about those horses that people bet on in races?
What about killing wild animals, even elephants for sport/trophies?
The list goes on...!
If we think, what Michael Vick did was terrible enough to ignore his skills and merit to carry on with his career (and rightly so, after paying the penance for committing those crimes...btw isn't that the reason we have a justice system?), then what does it say about all those people, who support/engage in activities listed above?
I am a real lover of animals - especially odgs. But, I also am a firm believer in 2nd chances. Michael Vick served more time in jail than some rapists. He did his time and appears to be truly remorseful. He deserves a chance to show that he's changed. He visited Chicago yesterday and met with some inner city males who he talked to about dog fighting and the evils associated with it. He was impressive and changed a lot of their minds. I believe he does deserve a chance to prove he has changed.
YES! The object of the game is to win, not to create role models. The guy's superior athletisism (I know that ain't spelled right) simply makes him to valuable to leave off of any roster looking to improve itself. However, it only makes sense to me if they use him mostly as a third down receiver........
Not create role models!!! Every person is a role model! Michael Vick is a poor one. Sooo, if I'm your child's teacher and your child cheats, I guess I should just let you have them apologize, and then put them in the honor group for getting a good grade on the test. Yup, I'd sure want you as a role model for my kids! No way, nor do I want Michael Vick on my Eagles! This family, after generations of being Eagles fans, will be finding a new team that we can respect and honor - and that came from our kids. Yes, the object is to win - with dignity! (And if it "ain't" spelled right, use the dictionary! It's a good way to be a role model.)
The NFL harbors murderers & rapists (and other clown-types). Vick's crime was not as awful as many others in the NFL. He paid his dues to society. Let him play & earn a living.
He just sanctioned the murdering of helpless animals, so that's okay??? What dues did he pay. He seems to be getting rewarded. He can earn a living working at an animal shelter. If his name wasn't Michael Vick and he was convicted of the same crime, where do you think he'd be and what do you think his sentence would have been? He's earned more of a "living" than most people will in a lifetime. Get real!!!
He made a bad choice and does NOT deserve to be rewarded with a multi million dollar contract! Kids look up to these players. What type of example are we setting? Sure he deserves a second chance but not as a NFL player, rather as a private citizen. I think everyone is forgetting that this disgusting waste of life MURDERED animals!! BOYCOTT THE NFL!!!
Football Players are private citizens. They don't ask to be role models, they are professional athletes. The product we watch on sundays is the result of hard work and much discipline, they are not rewarded anything, they work and are paid. I find the lesson more important for my child would be in the watching someone encounter, face and overcome such extreme diversity. I don't wish my youngster to hate or harbour illness bordering on hysteria for anything or anyone for the rest of their lives, heck people usually get life for murder.
hey ,your not a little jealous that as bad as you try to make him out to be he still will earn more in two years than you earned your whole life.mutt fighting has been around long before Vick, arrest those slime buckets, talk about role models kids, just think you can skate on ice with razor blades carry a big stick and swing at someone you dont like.barbarick but its ok as long as someone DO get hurt.ever been to a fight and a hockey game breaks out
Eff your kids, and eff the dogs he killed. They are bred for fighting. Regardless of how you feel about animals, they're still JUST DOGS! Who cares? They are food in over half the world, and not really that tasty. The breeds he fought were born for fighting. Grow up and find something worth the energy to complain about. Raise your own stupid kids and stop putting your failures on other people.
jarmo, crawl back into your cave. The poor dogs used for "practice" were not bred for fighting. And even for the dogs so bred, it wasn't exactly their idea. Regardless of however you prioritize the value of dogs, there's really something wrong with someone who can engage in such blatant insensitive cruelty and consider it entertainment, and there's something equally wrong with you if you don't see that.
Man you sound like a true pansy! But that aside.... its your job first to raise your kid, influence him, and teach him the right way. Its seems like you want to hold other people accountable for how your kid is raised - blaming and pointing -your-finger at entertainment, pro-athletes, the media, and such - before holding yourself accountable first.
It's because we hold ourselves accountable first that we are so incensed as to what the Eagles have done! We teach our children about morals and ethics, and now have to tell them how the Eagles, a team they love, have flaunted those morals and ethics. It is exactly because we hold ourselves accountable first that we are so disappointed in what Vick did and what the Eagles are perpetuating. Vick threw morals and ethics to the wind and would still be doing so if not caught. He is a person who is not remorseful unless it is useful. Let him work in an animal shelter. We don't hold others accountable for how our kids are raised, though we do like to be able to point out others who are on a level that we wish our children to emulate. If Vick held himself accountable first, perhaps he wouldn't be in the situation he is in. If you hold yourself accountable and want to teach your kid the right way, why are you calling someone a pansy? Or is that what you consider the right way? If so, I understand your support for Vick.
For the person who said, "they're just dogs" I'd like to remind you and others who feel this way that more than 150 years ago people said, "they're just slaves" and treated blacks in this country as Vick treated dogs. Fortunately, we're moving towards being more civilized, however, Sick Vick is an example of one who cares not about helpless ones who share our earth. Remember, we are ALL animals and share DNA. For those of you who don't believe this, well, I guess ignorance can be bliss.
Zeldaz, re-read what you just wrote. The Eagles "flaunted" those morals and ethics?
NEWS FLASH*****
The Eagles are a SPORTS TEAM, not social workers. There first priority is to WIN GAMES not be pillars of the community. They are ATHLETES not role models. Let the FRONT OFFICE decide what is best for the TEAM and stop trying to drag YOUR personal views into what is, and should be, a strictly FOOTBALL decision.
I'm not an Eagles fan but I am a football fan and I look forward to seeing this very entertaining man play again. Let him live with his own demons. Not my problem.
I don't buy into the role model aspect of your comment, but I DO AGREE that he should not be allowed to play in the NFL. Let him actually work for a living like the rest of us.
He's a thug & a bully, at best.
And of course Mr. Goddell totally dropped the ball on this one. Shame on him, shame on the Eagles and shame on the fans who think he paid his price.
Picking on animals is like picking on kids, he's a COWARD!
D.Braman, I think I'm reading your post wrong, because it seems like you are saying that what Pete Rose did was worse than Mike Vick did. I think most people will agree that what Vick did isn't in the same category and was far more worse than what Rose did. Rose didn't physically hurt or kill dogs with his betting!
What Pete Rose did wasn't worse than what Vick did, but Rose signed on the dotted line agreeing to the penalty, which was a lifetime ban from baseball. It was that or prison, he chose the ban. How many of us would like to go back and change the rules? The difference between Vick and Rose is Rose got to choose his punishment and now he wants to renig. Vick's biggest contribution to sports may wind up being restoring Rose to baseball because people just don't understand it's comparing apples to oranges. Rose should, no doubt, be in the Hall of Fame, (I'm from the Cincinnati area and loved the Big Red Machine), but he AGREED to the lifetime ban.
Yes, everyone makes mistakes. I’m not going to judge Vick or question whether or not he has “paid his debt to society”. The phrase “Everyone deserves a second chance” just isn’t true. But the phrase “life isn’t fair” is true. While not everyone that deserves a second chance gets one, some people that don’t deserve one do. Someone is not going to make the team if Vick does. The Eagles thought Dawkins was too old and they wouldn’t give him a second chance, even though all of the fans wanted to see him return this season. It seems the Eagles are more interested in making headlines than in building a winning team.
You knew someone would sign him. He now will appreciate being in the league much more and should work much harder at his craft (maybe). I was hoping Cleveland would sign him just for the irony of the Dawg Pound.
Well I am an Atlanta Falcons fan and used to be Vick fan. I say and keep saying. Signed him which the Eagles did. But if the guy brakes any records in this career and is elegilble to the Hall of Fame he should NOT be admitted.
Let him play, yes. The object of the game is to win and Vick can make plays. Be a quaterback NO he should be a running back, receiver or defensive end.
Boycott the NFL. As a long time Dallas supporter, it is with regret that I'll now have to find something else to do during football games.
What I will do is go to the shelter that I already volunteer in and walk and care for abused animals during Sunday games. That is how I will honor the animals who saw Michael Vicks face the final second they were alive and right before they were killed for poor performance.
That is why he should be considered professionally dead. I can't boycott NFL cuz I love my Vikings too much, but I hope there is some kind of financial detriment for this act of inconsideration for those who love animals.
Awesome idea! My son has been asking to volunteer at our shelter for awhile! I know what we will be doing! This family WAS huge Eagles fans! Thanks for the idea.
Thanks for helping. The more the merrier. I'm there most of the time anyway. I've already signed up for the Sunday afternoon shift.
Dan, Boycotting a group/store that one disagrees with is the oldest form of peaceful protest. I believe a peaceful protest in in order after the horrors and hate that MV brought to beautiful, loving and loyal animals.
I haven't been an NFL fan for over 30 yrs. Another good reason not to watch it. College football is much better & more exciting usually. Go GA Bulldawgs.
I am a Falcons fan and used to be Vick fan. I say YES give him the chance to play. However, he should be banned from the Hall of Fame. Just like baseball did with Pete Rose.
Signed him, just like the Eagle did, play as a quarterback, NO. He prove he can make plays, he can make things happen. He is too short for a quaterback he should be place as a running back, receiver or defensive end or special teams.
Also don't pay him a high salary, but let him play.
Michael Vick, supposedly remorseful, said, at a recent presentation that he did for the Humane Society, that "they" took away his freedom (paraphrased). As long as he uses the term "they" to blame for his incarceration, in no way does he understand or feel remorse but is reaching outside of himself to blame others rather than looking inside to find a source for healing his dysfunctions. I do not trust him and will not support any team he plays with UNLESS he acknowledges that HE and HE ALONE caused every problem that he has had since the dog fight business, dog murdering and dog abuse business he operated and fully participated in.
One of the problems with our society is that we create idols out of dishonorable people because they can run faster, jump higher, catch better. MV has no integrity, no remorse. He isn't sorry - he says NOW that dogfighting is wrong - why? Because if he doesn't say it, he can't sign a multimillion-dollar contract. If he hadn't been caught he'd still be killing animals. Eagles have made a very poor choice. What are parents supposed to tell their kids about sports heroes? Don't get caught? If you're good enough at your sport you'll always get another chance no matter what you do wrong morally? Please.
McNabb had better WATCH HIS BACK. When a team signs a former starter like Vick, that sends a POWERFUL message to the starting QB. I dont care if he is remorseful, as long as he can throw a football come the beginning of the season.
Does being remorseful or not really matter so long as he doesnt do it again? Are we the thought police now where we can judge how somebody feels inside? He can say he was sorry all he wants, and we will never know if it is true or not. He served his time, hes free to live his life, and he's going to be living the premium lifestyle as an NFL player. As long as he keeps his nose clean, what business is it of ours?
You go ahead Vick. Hatin is a full time job, and we are most definitely in a recession.
I agree but he should not being playing for a organization that children look up to. What type of example does this set? This guy is sick! The guy murders animals and we give him a multi-million dollar contract? BOYCOTT THE NFL!!!!!
Children look up to anything that is put in front of them. Are you really expecting athletes to be held to a higher standard for your kids? Why dont YOU set the example for your kids. Nothing Vick can do can take the place of good parenting. He is not going to ruin America's children by playing in the NFL again. Athletes, singers, and actors are not here to raise our kids. If they want to be role models, they will. If they dont, they wont.
I believe that once justice (as in the judicial system's sentence) is served, we have no say in the matter. He is a free man. Footballis about making money and putting the best players on the field. Morals dont win games, just as they dont lose them. Football is football and nothing else.
Vick made a CONSCIOUS decision to kill those animals, it wasn't a mistake, he knew what he was doing, and he'll tank in the NFL. Think about this...you take a guy who's been out of the league for essentially 3 years, stick him back in the league, his skills are going to diminish considerably, and when he tanks, which he inevitably will...it will be an absolute PR nightmare for the Iggles, and they'll be out millions of dollars in guaranteed money they could've used elsewhere.
Nope Toni. Thats how you get benched, and nobody is going to put their playing time on the line for Michael Vick. Besides, most of the althetes the media has talked to have had his back from the jump.
I love football and couldn't wait for the season to start - this has cheapened the season for me. Playing pro. football is a priviledge not a right and Michael Vick should never play again. No employeer has to rehire a convicted felon and, let's face it, most don't. I honestly can't figure out how the sadistic creep can even show his face again - it's a sick individual who kills dogs for sport. Hopefully he'll eventually end up living under a bridge somewhere and we'll never have to hear about him again. Bottom line, I won't be watching any game that the Eagles play nor buying anything or any brand that's even associated with Vick - I'll make damn sure that none of my money ever goes into his pocket or any organization that supports him.
Grow up. They're just dogs! Get over it. I'm now officially an Eagles fan. US football is slow and boring, but I'll suck it up just to support Vick. He has talent and that is all that matters in pro sports. He is not a role model unless you make him one. He is not responsible for how you or your kids view him. What he does is none of your business.
"Just" dogs! Hey, "Just" horses! "Just" people! Where does it stop? None of your business? Not a role model? One can only hope your eyes are opened to what it means to be a living being.
I agree, if we don't support the sponsors..Maybe that will get them where they care..
Selling jerseys is just a slap in the face of dog and animal lovers..
Hopefully the NFL, Goodell and the Eagles will see that fans do not like and will not
tolerate such indifference to such cruel ,sadistic and psychopathetic actions..
Also do not be fooled by the Humane Society that is associating with Vick..
There are two societies the American and HSUS. The HSUS is really not a Humane Society, but a terroristic group that uses the Humane name to solicit funds...
The American Humane Society wants nothing to do with M.Vick. I agree he would not be
he,s garbage and should be treated as such .any one that gets there jollys off hurting animals needs a real ---kicking. his mom must be real proud of the him ya think
He served his debt to society, end of story. Andy Reid is a great coach and the Eagles are a class organization. Kudos to them for stepping up for giving Mike Vick a chance at redemption.
"Murder" is the killing of another human being, not an animal. Everything we do involves the death of an animal. Food, clothing, etc. Killing animals is part of life. Sometimes it is for necessity, and sometimes it is for entertainment. Get over it.
Donte Stallworth actually killed someone......you better than everyone who deems animal life more important than humans can chew on that for a while.....he did his time, did what was asked of him, you do what you want, JUDGE all you want....for those of you that put him on the 'role model' pedestal, it is all in what you want.
tinyurchin - I don't see anyone calling for Stallworth to return to the league! Why do you assume that anyone anti-Vick is automatically pro-Stallworth?
Dante Stallworth admitted he had done wrong from Day 1 and is truly remorseful and willing to accept his punishment. Michael Vick's only remorse is that he got caught. Dante Stallworth killed a man in a terrible accident where Dante made a mistake by getting behind the wheel of a car after he had been drinking. Michael Vick faught and killed defenseless animals for money and sport. THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE!
Wrong! Getting behind the wheel and killing another human being is certainly not a mistake! It was a choice Stallworth made. It's a a far bigger travesty than dog-fighting. I don't understand the convolulted logic here. You cannot measure the loss of a child/brother/sister/mother/father against the loss of an animal.
I answered this from a pure point of football....He committed a crime. He went to jail. He did his time. Now he is out. There is no downside to this. Philly got a talented player. He has something to prove. I dont see how you could lose doing this.
First off, he's not all that talented. Secondly, the Eagles don't need a new quarterback. third, but most important, children will learn from this that if they have any talent at all, then they can get away with anything, even murder of other living beings, and any good detective, psychologist or psychiatrist will tell you people that abuse and kill animals are but one step away from killing people. Vick is a sick person and needs to be someplace he can be observed 24/7, and not where he can be viewed as a role-model by the youth of the US.
that is such a BS argument. Some of America's favorite people fought animals to the death for enjoyment and we dont demonize them. Hell, we dont even mention it. We just put them all over every frickin thing, build them statues, and sing their praises in the schools.
Well...it'll be FUN when the Eagles come to town!
Michael Vick is a sadistic creep who got his jollies using his bare hands to kill defensless dogs. Something is wrong in his dna. I will boycott all Eagles games and products. I never with to lay eyes on this man again. He should just disappear.

If you hold yourself accountable and want to teach your kid the right way, why are you calling someone a pansy? Or is that what you consider the right way? If so, I understand your support for Vick.
Anyone in the NFL who is convicted of a felony should not be allowed to come back and play!!! It's not a right to play for millions, it's a privilege.
End of story.
Or yours.
Anyone who says Vick shouldn't be given a second chance should remember the words of Jesus: Judge not lest ye be judged!
Then let's get Pete Rose back into baseball, and into the hall of fame where he belongs, because if he did was worse than what Vick did, then...
Funny. Thanks.

BS you will watch every game and think to yourself that you made a difference with your insignificant post.
Awesome idea! My son has been asking to volunteer at our shelter for awhile! I know what we will be doing! This family WAS huge Eagles fans! Thanks for the idea.
Zeldaz,
Thanks for helping.
Enjoy the game, Dan. Isn't choice great?????
I haven't been an NFL fan for over 30 yrs. Another good reason not to watch it. College football is much better & more exciting usually. Go GA Bulldawgs.
If you think college players arent sinning and committing crimes left and right then you dont know many players.

Please.
Well said!!
You're words say it perfectly.
you took the words right out of my mouth!
Of course! If you're a good athlete or a winning coach, you'll always get another chance, no matter what you do. Look at Rick Pitino!
McNabb had better WATCH HIS BACK. When a team signs a former starter like Vick, that sends a POWERFUL message to the starting QB. I dont care if he is remorseful, as long as he can throw a football come the beginning of the season.
You are what's wrong with this Country!
what. ev.
Wow. Ever heard of morals? Let's let anyone do anything, if maybe they'd help the starting lineup. Pathetic.
Great point! And if I were his protecting front line, I would step aside. It will be interesting to see how teammates react.
I agree he would not be
a choice to speak for Humane animal treatment.
he,s garbage and should be treated as such .any one that gets there jollys off hurting animals needs a real ---kicking. his mom must be real proud of the him ya think
He served his debt to society, end of story. Andy Reid is a great coach and the Eagles are a class organization. Kudos to them for stepping up for giving Mike Vick a chance at redemption.
Vick did his time. Good grief there are guy in the NFL that have done worse. I vote heck yes.........
Whats worse than murdering a animal? A human?
Can you say double standard. Stay classy America!
