Should golf be added to the Olympics?
I've played golf for 41 years, and I enjoy and respect the game and the people who play it at its highest levels. When I was younger, I also competed in many triathlons, running and biking events. Golf is a game, not a sport. That there are other games in the olympics as sedentary as golf does not qualify golf to be there. I agree with a comment John McEnroe made many years ago: "Shouldn't there at least be running for something to qualify as a sport?"

#3 - Tue Aug 11, 2009 4:01 PM EDTIncorrect chloe24. That was a limitation that we put on ourselves. Other countries had been sending professionals for years before the U.S. started doing it (Dream Teams, Baseball, etc.).
As for John McEnroe's comment, then you would need to take out archery, shooting (rifles and pistols), all the horse related events since the horses do the majority of the work, rythmic gymnastics, etc. While I certainly wouldn't mind some of the more esoteric sports being removed, that would limit other countries who are good at those sports from earning medals.

#9 - Wed Aug 12, 2009 5:00 AM EDTGolf is not a truly international sport or if it is, only in the developed world. Also you need courses and more than one. It would be a mess and therefore I say no. What in the world does Tiger Woods need a gold medal for.
The Olympics is getting too unwieldy and outdated anyway. We have yearly world championships in almost every sport or game which should be sufficient. The Olympics was devised in an era when it was difficult for people to travel and get together to compete. That is not the case anymore. We should either trim down or abolish the Olympics altogether.
#11 - Wed Aug 12, 2009 1:40 PM EDTAbolish the Olympics? Let's abolish the world championships etc.....The Olympics "were" devised over 2,000 years ago to judge the best in specific sports. Two thousand years of tradition trumps the World Championships, don't you think?
