There wasn't much to chose from as far as an MVP performance, but I thought that Curtis Granderson's triple was an aggressive play that led to the go-ahead run. I think he should have been the MVP.
Whiile the catch was spectacular. Curtis Granderson's triple with his aggressive baserunning trumps the catch. CG should have been the MVP!
Who cares? The game, home run derby and the softball classic are just an excuse to give the over paid prima donnas a few days off. And one play makes an MVP? If that's the case, I agree with Nissan that Granderson's triple was the most valuable play. It led to the winning run. Crawford's catch, however spectacular, only prevented the go ahead run. Isn't is usually the go ahead score that garners this award? Or the play that creates it? That's usually the case in the Superbowl. But hey, it's all subjective. They should've split the award between these two guys IMHO.
And the league that wins gets home field advantage is supposed to make the game more meaningful? Yah right.
They need to to that with the NBA all star game, then some of those guys might play some defense and the scores wouldn't be in the 120's or 130's. Instead, that game is full of matadors going "Ole" and letting their buddies fly by for a picturesque dunk. At least the NBA players are voted in by their peers. The MLB players are voted in by mass balloting idiots who put in the same players year after year no matter how well they've played throughout the season so far.
I wish there was one thing you said I could disagree with! Right on the money.
It was a Nice Catch , But I think the Kid that hit the Triple Derserves to be MVP. He had to hustle it out to get to third, and then score what turned into the winning run .
The kid from Detriot got ripped off, because Crawford is more of a " household Name " , because he leads the world in stolen bases, He vastly over rated , and ofteb falters in the outside on a regular basis, but people who odn't follow AL East Baseball would never know that ....I guess what ever Joe Maddon says , Goes ... Since he had his " entire " team out there ...
A mistake was made, and the MVP should go to Granderson , period ....
You must be a YANKEE fan...............or Boston. Still upset that the Rays knocked you both out last year.
Rick -- you're right -- he must be a Yankee or Red Sox fan. Obviously, I'm biased on this one but I think Crawford deserved it for the catch and a single. I also think Granderson just as easily could be MVP.
By the way, I don't think Maddon had anything to do with the MVP selection -- I believe it's the media. Although I think Steve speaks English I'm trying to understand what "ofteb falters in the outside on a regular basis." If he means Crawford falters in the outfield, he's smoking crack. Crawford has speed and range and makes catches that few others except maybe his teammate, B.J. Upton, can make. I've watched almost every Rays game this year and I don't know how you can say Crawford doesn't play well in the field. And yes, he does lead MLB in stolen bases.
I agree with the last three posts. Curtis Granderson's hustle to make it to third was way more valuable than catching that fly ball. Without getting to third, it is likely the game would have/could have gone to extra innings, or the National League would have only needed one run when they got 2 men on against Nathan in the 8th.
Late inning, potential game changer, reasonable choice. Plus he had a hit too didn't he?
I agree with you Mike........It had the chance to change the outcome of the game. The NL might have won the game and broke the streak. Yes he did get a hit in his first at bat.....
They players on the winning team, AL all agreed it was the right choice....... Ask Pablebon... He was glad he made the catch....
Yes, had he NOT made the catch the NL would have gone ahead and might have won the game......It SAVED the game for the AL..........He deserves the credit for the catch.
It was an amazing catch - I love watching a guy bring back a homerun (unless it's against my team). It's exciting to see him put in that kind of effort in the game.

It saved the game. He also got the hit that ultimately resulted in Jeter scoring.
