Manny Ramirez returned from his penalty over the weekend, starting two games at San Diego and pinch-hitting Sunday. Many fans made the drive down from Los Angeles to see him at Petco Park, and he drew far more cheers than jeers.
Should fans care about steroid use in baseball?

That call was personal.... I hear so much about " prima donas" and "they think they are gods " refering to baseball players...and what about the umpires..? They have permission to kill, just like 007.
Nobody can argue a call, not even the Managers.. how is that possible.? If they make a mistake, if they are wrong... ( which they are very often ) why MLB don't correct them at least..? I understand that any kind of wrong call can not be re-call after the game ( except the one against George Brett ) but why not during tghe game. There are at least 2 more umpires that could have called those pitches against the Home Umpire. For understandable reasons there is no accepted replay for balls and strikes, but if the Manager comes out He should be able to request the first base umpire ( right handed batter ) opinion, like is very common and continuosly done when a batter half-swings a pitch. After all, is easier for the base umpire to see the exact position of a pitch when is not swang.
Well, they like to play God... have you noticed the way they eject a player..? Why is that acceptable..? It is a very arrogant and humiliating move and extremely ridiculous the way they do that foward step and point highly to the sky in God knows what direction to eject a player for letting them know they were wrong. I have heard managers when approaching umpires to argue a call, by starting to say something like " Are you sure that was a strike, Sir, Almighty God of the Olimpus.." in order not to be also ejected. The Commisioner and his team should pay more attention to this matter, and make them understand that they have to respect the players, who at the very end, are the employers. Without the players there is no game, no business, no job.

"base umpire to see the exact position of a pitch when is not swang."
Oh hell yeah- we should definitely value your opinion- it's obvious dat u dun lernd
all dat stuf in skol.
The worst thing about the game in any sport are the officials. Modern technology is better than the umpires. Pitch tracking is science and it isn't as wrong as the humans, who get paid. They use it in tennis and it has made the game better. The ball travels faster in tennis. The umpires job is thankless but often a wrong call determines an at bat, and sometimes an at bat determines the outcome of the game. They allow replays for home runs now. They aren't going to replace the home plate umpire but replays show bad calls on the base paths too. There is nothing worse than watching an ump squeeze the plate or call a strike, when pitch tracking shows it wasn't even close. Manny was called out tonite and the pitch was 4 inches off the plate. It didn't determine the game but the bases were loaded and it cost them a run. Manny showed the ump up and got tossed but the ump got shown up on the replay. Imagine the ninth inning of a playoff game...unacceptable!
Its about time someone from the media decided to get off their high horse. Its not that doing steroids should just be accepted (although we know they are a ever present part of sports today). It's that the media, the fans, and the general managers created this monster. Watch the sports highlights. How often do you see a sacrifice bunt, routine hits or other parts of the game that make it such a cerebral game. You see the towering homeruns, the further they fly the better. GM's reward power hitters with enormous contracts, the fans vote them into the All-Star game and pack the stadiums when the big name power hitters visit their home teams ballpark. Human nature is for these stars to find a way to get to the top and stay there. They are going to push the limits and often go beyond them. Its about the money and the fame and as long as we enable it they will continue. I get really upset at the indignant tone so many "baseball purists" and media types take whenever a player is popped. Can't they see how much of a role they have played and continue to play in this "steroids era"? Get over it and accept that it is here to stay and the fans and media created the monster we now have to live with.
real fans of the game appreciate the work it takes. You guys who love the Juicers are not real fans...you are just another part of the scuz side of any sport.
if they want to juice up, i say, let them. the better they play, the more interesting the sport is.
you bout to hit the needle are ya????
Who cares, there are so many other things happening in this country who cares.
