Retire and move to Detroit...I wouldn't bother hanging around Chicago.
he should retire as an active player and start coaching with any team especially for defenseive players.
There is no denying he has lost a step, his will is still there, and he is still a very strong competitor, but, he simply isn't fast enough anymore. I admire him greatly, and, he could still play on many teams, but, he would be the last defensive pairing, and I don't think he will be able to get on a team capable of making it to the finals. If he is solely interested in playing, and not trying for another cup, then he could continue to play. If the cup is his goal, It'll be tough for him to latch on elsewhere. Detroit is one of the few teams that can actually afford a roster spot for Chelios. That they've not offered him a contract says volumes.
he's lost two steps...or three steps...or four. There's just simply a time when great players should walk away before their image and legacy become tarnished and soiled.
i think chris chelios should give it one more year a team like the islanders can use a vet like him to help and mentor the youngsters
i think he should give it one more year a team like the islander can use his experience to help and mentor the youngsters on this team
like i said yesterday chelios should give it one more year also how do you feel about the rangers making a play for dany heatley or marian gaborik? also the rumor about phil kessel going to toronto for kaberle and the 7th pick in tonight's draft how do you feel about that?
The man rides a stationary bike IN THE SAUNA! Tell me he can't help a team's younger players with that conditioning mindset.
There will always be a role for a guy with his level of discipline and knowledge of the game and defensive play. What he can pass on to young players would jump start any new defensive pairing and benefit plenty of veterans too. Most clubs need someone like him to mentor. I respect his passion for the game and desire to play, but there comes a time when you have to realize you can't outskate the 19 year olds...and it becomes time to transition. Give back to the game for many more years...just in a different capacity.
