You sound bitter. Are you bitter?

It's amazing how many topics on Newsvine quickly descend into political name calling - from both sides. It is really unnecessary - Sosa provides plenty of opportunity for bickering without having to bring more into it.

The funniest comment he made is that he apologized to the people that it embarrased when he got caught using the corked bat. Who else would it embarass except him? He got caught. Yah right, he used it for practice. So what other illegal things did he do or use for practice?

      Answer that one Sammy!!

Sosa may get into the Hall eventually (unless they prove he was on enhancers), but it will be anything but a calm period in his life... or that of the media.

With baseball revenues declining rapidly because of increased prices, the recession, and the steroids scandal, it is most likely that MLB will blame everything on steroids and the players who used them. It's just the easy way out.

Oh so they'll invoke the Obama strategy of blaming everything on Bush only MLB's "Bush" is the steroids era and everyone associated with it. Seems to be working pretty well for B.O. so why not give it a shot. You're right though, that is the easy way out.

While I am not approving steroids, I wonder if anyone really read what the article, or realize just how acute the pressure to preform exists in baseball.

We all know that batters who hit .300 or better get paid huge amounts of money. We also know Batters who hit less than .200 get relegated to the minors or released entirely and find themselves either selling insurance, or worse...

The difference boils down to about 2 hits per week.

As for steroids themselves, why are they making such a fuss about retroactive cases. Retroactive laws and rulings are not Constitutional, nor it such retribution the American way. If one wanted to be legalistic about banned substances, then a case could be made for removing Babe Ruth from the Hall of Fame for his Alcohol consumption, which was a violation of Federal and State Law at the time. Of course such a move would not only be ludicrous, it would also be universally hated and reviled.

Funny how social acceptance can alter outlook and the dispensing of Justice.

If Sosa cannot be proved to have used steroids during the time the use is illegal, then there is absolutely no reason he should be be punished by being kept out of the hall. Innocent until proved guilty should apply in baseball as the rest of the country.

The pressure to perform is great, however using steroids is not the way to achieve your goals. Stop and think, by him juicing to enhance his performance may haved robbed another player who did not juice from getting a chance to play. Without the juice Sosa would have to no better than the next player.

Sammy, do not hold your breath waiting for that call...

The Hall of Fame is not a right but rather a privilege and an acknowledgement of achievement. It is not automatic, though in the past when the game was clean and pure there were certain milestones that made it seem automatic. Justice has nothing to do with the Hall of Fame, it is not a legal matter and therefore there need be no actual proof as Sosa isn't being charged with anything in a court of law. If it is felt by the HOF voters, as I'm sure it is by most sensible people, that Sosa took some form of PED to aid in him reaching said milestones then he simply will not be voted in and he will have no legal recourse. He can cry and whine all he wants but he is 1000x's less deserving of the HOF than Pete Rose and we all see where his politicking has gotten him. Despite all of his flaw, Mickey Mantle made the most insightful comment about Rose when he said something to the effect that "he has more hits than all of us, if he doesn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame none of us do."

T.R. Hendricks - Well said, and good point about Babe Ruth. I think professional sports were slow in taking action in regards to performance enhancing drugs, however, the action taken now is a start in the right direction. Whether it ultimately cleans up all professional sports is still in question. It comes down to the integrity of the individual players.

But remember, he did get caught cheating with the corked bat!

But just the same, George Brett got caught in the famous "pine tar" incident. That was cheating too and didn't he get into the hall? Couldn't tell ya. Not a big follower of the second most boring sport on earth next to golf. At least golfers don't spit tobacco juice all over the place and scratch their "balls" on public TV LOL.

The Baseball Hall of Fame or any Hall of Fame and being elected to it is just as ridiculous as being elected to anything. It's all subjective and depends on the support you have. It's kinda like being elected prom king, who gives a fart. The Hall needs to be renamed, The Great Players of the Game. I went there once, and not all of the inductees are famous. Never heard of 2/3's of 'em.

Even if he does have the numbers and the steroid taint could be "overlooked," who the hell says "OK, I'm retired.. .put me in the Hall of Fame." The incredible lack of humility for the history of the game to automatically presume to announce your own greatness. You don't induct yourself idiot. NFL players don't ever presume to mention that other than "what a great honor it would be if the Hall selected me." They don't start a PR blitz about it, I guess unless your name is Ocho Sinco. Thank You Mek67,

You are so on the money with this one. I was thinking the same thing. Put aside the steroid use for a moment and just look at him from an athlete's view. All I saw was an arrogant ass.

Although this person was not an athlete, his persona is one that should be the de facto for all, and this was Paul Newman. In an interview with him in his final years he is quoted as saying "It's just been a pleasure to have been here" (this life)

Here is a guy who helped to bring back the popularity of baseball by hitting home runs. Whether roided up or not, MLB had no reason to bite the hand feeding them by penalizing guys who were bringing in big revenue. Back then, the issue of steroids was just a drop in the ocean compared to nowadays.

Unfortunately, this "don't ask questions, and you will hear no lies" stance has proven to be short-sided and is killing the credibility of the sport. A precedent needs to be set by MLB to keep guys like Sosa and McGwire out of the Hall of Fame. I have no doubt that the majority of Baseball Writers of America are under the impression of "guilty until proven innocent" with a lot of these sluggers implicated under the Mitchell Report and elsewhere. No one will know who was using and who wasn't, the voters are just going to have to use their best judgement on a case by case basis.

I think the Players Union has become too powerful and hiders progress in PED reform. Their ultimate goal is to protect the paychecks of its members and seem hesitant throughout this whole process. When you have a boat with some men rowing forward and some men rowing backward, you get nowhere.

Sorry Sammy. You cheated and you don't belong. Neither do Bonds, McGwire, Clemens, Arod, Palmiero or any of the other guys who cheated. The top 30 home run list already looks like a joke and the last thing baseball needs is another pumped-up flop in the hall of fame. Frankly, I believe baseball should exponge all of these so-called records as if the players never existed. Sure some of your accomplishments came 'pre-drugs', but if one homer came from banned substances, you should be out. Period.

Gee, all of a sudden he starts hitting more than 60 home runs for years after years of fair numbers at best.  Sosa should enjoy the money he made from his enhanced, artficial, numbers and just go the hell away. He can now justify his baseball numbers by now becoming a "professional wrestler", he's already juiced for it. If he get into the HOF then anyone who pays the admission price at the door should be eligible too. Sosa in the HOF is a CROCK!

At least I hope that writers and coaches would not be willing to allow them in. Surely they have enough decency and intelligence to know that cheaters do not belong.

As much as we feel certain that Sosa took PED's. He has never been directly linked to steroids.. NBC should fix the title of this story. Justly or not he's been convicted by public opinion rather than with proof.

A lot of home runs does not necessarily mean you get into the hall of fame. Just ask Barry Bonds. The 500 home run threshold for getting into the hall of fame has been proved meaningless in this steroid era. Maybe they should make the new threshold 800 home runs? If I had a vote for the hall of fame people like Barry B., Sammy S., Raphael P., Mark M. and Roger C. will never get in. Oh, Alex R., your in that group too!!

I have a better chance of getting into the Hall of Fame.
