I don't care his reason for doing it. As a Packer fan, it would be the ultimate knife in the back! The VIKINGS?!!!! NOOOO!!!! Say it aint so!! It would tarnish him name(for us) more than going to the Jets. I can't handle this!!
Favre was a great player... but he surely isn't a great Packer. All this does is make him look like angry little kid
He's the biggest flip flopper I've ever seen. I'm retired, no I'm not, yes I am, no wait...
Gimme a break. He just can't stand being out of the spotlight. Had he taken the Jets to the playoffs last year I could see him returning. He had a great start out of the gate, but folded at the end, showing his age and lack of stamina.
This is just a big PR move by the Vikings to sell tickets. He won't be accepted by the other players, just read the article. They aren't happy he's coming. And if it's about the money, geesh, doesn't he have enough from his previous career and the Levi commericals and other products I see him endorse on TV?
Brett--retire once and for all. Quit being the "flip flopper." Is there some record he doesn't hold and wanna break it? I can't see a good reason for him to return other than a paycheck on his part and PR for Minnesota on their part. Oh yeah, all the jerseys he'll sell and other memorabilia he'll create while there. They'll sell every football he touches, probably sell his jock strap too!!
Personally, I'm tired of Brett Farve. Great QB for the ages, a few years ago. But sorry Brett, retirement is calling. Heed the call and go towards the light!! Not the spotlight, the retirement light. Keep making your Levi commercials.
But wait! He's pain free!! Hmmmm, does anyone remember his bout with painkillers in the not to distant past? Kinda makes me wonder. Someone should also look at Balco's records and see if they can't find a link somewhere. Yeah, I'm making speculations that may, or may not, be true. But after so many years of abuse to your body and you can still take more? Especially at the QB position? C'mon.
Just become an analyst Brett. You won't have to worry about some 350lb lineman piling on your butt every other play. You'll just have to sit there and chime in with your so appealing cajun accent. Besides, I'm sure CBS will hire you now that John Madden has retired. They have an opening, look into it!!
If he does play, I'd love to see him get crushed and carried off the field then have to admit, well, I shoulda retired. LOL
as a lifelong packers fan i'm totally disgusted..brett favre was a consumate team player,or so he wanted everyone to think..but the last few years has made me realise that brett favre is just interested in brett favre..i hope he does go to minnisota..and i hope when the pack plays them he gets his legs broken..and is made to retire ..this is crazy to say but i'm at a lose for any other comment !!!..his ego has gotten the best of him..what was the pack to do ..play the brett favre retirement fiasco for another 5 years...i think not ..they did what was best for the team ..not brett favre ..
Right - Green Bay did what was best for the team - not Brett Favre. Why do you not think that Favre should do what is right for him?!!? Why does he have to retire to show loyalty to a team that choose to sit him down? If he wants to continue to play football I don't have a problem with it, I think in the right situation he could still be great. The Vikings provide a amazing running game to take the pressure off the quarterback and a little experience in the QB position could be the difference that gets them deep into the playoffs.
Right - Ted Thompson has been tripping on his ego at Green Bay since he drafted Rogers. The fiasco in Green Bay was a front office joke that could have been fixed but the bottom line was that they didn't want Favre. Favre was the only one in Teds way and Favre argueably had more power in the media. How soon people forget the seasons this quarterback gave to the Packers. He could still be there. Ted Tombstone had been rebuilding this team for years without any true cohesion with or concern for Brett, he just wanted his quarterback (Rogers) at the helm. Brett carried T.T. and a very weak team for years while T.T./McCarthy let most of the offensive line go, started running backs that didn't even start in college and passed on opportunities (Quality RB and receivers) that could have put together a run at the Super Bowl with one of the best winning quarterbacks. Meanwhile, TT created additional distraction and drama by not doing his job and not dealing with the issues at hand like holdouts of the teams stronger veterans in recent years. How about paying some people their fair market value? Can you say Mike Mackenzie and Javon Walker? How about living in the now Ted? MN IS! They have a running game and a defense and actually want the winning veteran quarterback Brett Favre. A good fit for Favre too. Green Bay hasn't had a running game in years, not much of a defense and a developing quarterback that has been sidelined more than Favre. Ask yourself if Marino, Elway or Montana would have been managed and treated this way. If Favre wants to play for the Vikings, great, why would the Packers care they didn't want him and traded him. Remember?
To Mike the good Packer fan: You hope they break Brett's legs at Lambeau? Really? What do you and the rest of your so called Packer fans have to worry about that could make you say such cruel things abouth the best QB that ever played in Green Bay? And yes, Bart Starr would agree. Brett's not holding the Packers or any other team hostage this year so what's the harm? He's a football player and that's what he does. Do you think his presence will harm the NFC North? Or perhaps the story line will be bad for the NFL? Obviously when Ted Thompson and fans of your iik decided he was finished and it was time to go (after the Pack was 1 TD away from Superbowl remember?), Brett didn't have to agree with you or the Packer front office. Are you aware they banned him from the practice field and locker room? Remember? Understand that being a living Hall of Famer comes with privilege - Brett get's to make that decision with his family and future employer and as one gets older and yor body is tired and banged up those decisions probably become more difficult as the years pass. But that doesn't mean you can't still play when you're one of the toughest guys ever to play in the NFL. Brett holds a record that may NEVER be broken with the most starts REMEMBER? You see Mike, there's a reason very successful people have 3 things you may not be aware of: timing, vision and passion. The Vikes have everything in place to finally get to the Superbowl and win. All there missing is Brett Farve. Brett never had a chance to get there with the Jets but he can with The Vikings and he still wants to go out a winner because he's been one his whole life thanks mostly to his Dad, the rest of his family, hard work and support of real football fans who love the game as much as he does. Brett was just one pass away from the Super Bowl 2 years ago. REMEMBER? He blew it after carrying the Packers on his shoulders for the first 9 games of that season. REMEMBER? There was no running game remember? Getting that close and blowing it is obviously that's not the way he chooses to finish his career and I'm guessing that's what's driving him. not you, not Ted Thompson and certainly not the money. And you call yourself a Packer fan? Shame on you. Spewing online about "breaking Brett Farve's legs"? By the way I'm from Wisconsin and a life long Packer fan and I'd like to see a few things broken too when Brett trots out on Lambeau Nov 1st in purple. Break this myth that his job was done in Green Bay and he's all washed up. Break this myth that the Packers were better off without him last year when the smart money knows they could have realistically returned to NFC Championship game again last year (Arizona please?). Isn't that how winners think? How to win now, not how to win years from now. Sticking it to fans like you and your fearless leader Ted Thompson is just a convenient bonus. Believe me, if this really happens and you see our beloved franchise Hall of Famer playing in purple on Lambeau field I guarantee that it's fans like you and out of towners like Ted Thompson that will be feeling ALL THE PAIN AND SHAME YOU DESERVE.
Wow! I couldn't have said it better myself!!!!! You've echoed my sentiments exactly. I'm in the category of Packer fans who were very bummed out when Brett retired, then absolutely ecstatic when he decided he wanted to come back, only to be left quite distraught that Thompson, Murphy and McCarthy were "moving on" without him. Don't get me wrong, I am a Packer fan, and I believe Aaron Rogers is a fine QB, but I am still stunned at the success Green Bay accomplished two seasons ago, with Brett carrying the load, followed by Packer management's decision to lock him out. I am still bitter. Brett Favre did more for the Packers than just about anything or anybody in NFL history. Period. He should have been allowed to stay until he truly wanted to retire, and then retire a legend and hero. Instead, after an incredible career, he is now villified, and will likely end his NFL journey wearing purple, when he should have gone out with the Green and Gold. As much as I want the Pack to succeed, I look forward to following Brett Favre, should he join the Vikings. And (this almost makes me sick), I'll be rooting as much for the Vikes as I do for the Pack. To John Biewer and Jack Smith - very well put! I hear so many fans that have turned on Brett Favre, and it's nice to know there are others out there who share my feelings about the whole messy divorce.......
as a lifelong packers fan i'm totally disgusted..brett favre was a consumate team player,or so he wanted everyone to think..but the last few years has made me realise that brett favre is just interested in brett favre..i hope he does go to minnisota..and i hope when the pack plays them he gets his legs broken..and is made to retire ..this is crazy to say but i'm at a lose for any other comment !!!..his ego has gotten the best of him..what was the pack to do ..play the brett favre retirement fiasco for another 5 years...i think not ..they did what was best for the team ..not brett favre
What a terrible thing to say about any athlete- break his legs. I've been a lifelong Packer fan and was ashamed of Thompson. He had his agenda- you don't ask anyone 1 month after the season finishes to give you a decision then and there about retirement- most athletes will tell you that none of them want to play at that point after a hard season. If he had given him time he'd have told them he'd come back. And then Thompson says they "built their offense around Rodgers"? what did they change really? It was pretty much the same as the year before- no running game! I have nothing against Rodgers but he's no Brett Favre, and won't be either
Favre deserved a better exit from Green Bay and I don't blame him for not wanting to go back while Thompson is still there. The Packers don't need someone like Thompson when can't admit when he's wrong. And look at the "great" team he has built. If anyone should have, and still should go, it's him. Not thrilled with Mccarthy either.
Shame on you for wishing this- There's quite a few teams and players I don't like, the Vikings among them, but I would not wish that on them (Michael Vick being put in a room full of attacking pit bulls might be a different story!)
I was born and raised in Milwaukee, am a lifelong Packers fan...the last few years that Favre was with the Packers were so disappointing because of his "will he or won't he retire" saga. I supported and still support the Packers decision to move on last season with Rodgers, just too much drama with Favre and his ego. Now that I'm reading news stories about Favre coming out of retirement yet again to join the Vikings...if he's considering that to get back at the Packers management, that's pathetic, not to mention a huge slap in the face to all of the fans who cheered him on for so many years. We loved him, but this would be the last straw. Despite him joining the Jets for one season, I still wanted to see him inducted into the Hall of Fame someday as a Packer, but if he joins the Vikings, I never want to see that happen.
Agreed. I too support the Packers management on getting rid of him. This annual edition of "will he, won't he" retire drama was preventing the team from making plans for its future. And it went on for years. And now he wants to play for revenge on the Packers. That's a terrible reason to get back into the game and it's unfair to every Packers fan that supported him and every Vikings fan this year, not to mention the Vikings team. Ultimately if he plays, he'll turn in yet another mediocre retirement and be bad for team morale.
Retire old man. Go back to mississippi, hang a tire by a rope from a tree and hire a ball boy to fetch. Just retire and go home. You bore us.
Why are Packer fans miffed that Brett would talk to the Vikings (or anybody else) after they let him walk last year? You kicked him to the curb...you went for the young hottie with the Corvette. No one blames you, GB, so why hold it against your ex for hanging on for yet another year? You can't blame Brett for not letting go if you're not willing to do the same. Can't blame Green Bay for moving on, can't blame Brett for wanting one more shot at glory AND putting it to his former team, and can you really blame the Minnesota faithful for wanting to start Brett Favre over Sage Rosenfels or Tarvaris Jackson?
Interestingly enough, I think the one guy who wants no part of this drama is Minnesota head coach Brad Childress. If he can't win the whole thing this year with Brett in that offense backed up by a solid run-stopping defense then he probably can't get it done, period, and I bet he's a Mall of America parking lot attendant this time next year if that goes down. As fun as this is to speculate, I bet Favre stays retired.
So relax...and pass the cheese.
As a packer fan I have no problem with Brett coming back. He is a free agent and can sign with any team that will have him. Granted, he wants to hurt the packers because we traded him away. I look forward to the matchups with the vikings with him at quarterback. My only doubts about the packers will be with our new defensive scheme. So let's get on the field and see what happens.
Brett just keeps acting as a spoiled little kid as he has throughout his career. Always begging for attention and pouting when he doesn't get it. Hope there is an adult raising his kids because he is a bad example to everyone! Let him play and bring another team down.
I WAS a big fan of his. I have lost a lot of respect for him. I wish he would have retired when he left the Pack. I also wish we could all learn the truth from him and the Packers.
Please don't wish bad things on a person, he is just a football player. His actions will NEVER
affect you.
As a former life long Packer fan I hope Brett comes back and whoops the Packers a$$es. Sure he might have been a bit of a Diva but he didnt deserve to be crapped on by the Packers and that's exactly what they did.
he was not thinking of the team when he would not decide to stay or go. the team had to commit for the sake of the team. bret ceased being a team player when he would not make up his mind. he was holding them hostage. i wish he would have stayed retired the 2nd time. "GO PACK GO"
I always loved Favre with the Packers...I will always love him for his years there but I think he needs to stay HOME and enjoy the fact that unlike the rest of us...he can afford to not work! A great player knows when to leave the game!
sue ah side, PROMISE? With comments like yours, it's no wonder you're a Farve fan. You're both losers!!!!
The greatest thing about the Packers is the fans. If Brett thinks going to Minnesota will get back at the Packers - he's wrong. It will be the fans who loved and supported him through the good and the bad. If he wears the purple (with pretty yellow braids) next year he will have lost everything he worked for in GB. Just to get back at TT? So sad.
Just leave the poor man alone! He's a football player, for Pete's sake! If he and his family want him to play until he's 50 years old, what of it? Some people play for the love of the game and some don't. What does it matter why he plays or for how long? I admire anyone who is willing to keep going when others count him out. Leave him alone, mind your own business and just enjoy the game!
Reading this honestly reminds me of what a class act Dan Marino is. Sorry Brett you may have the records now, but honestly Dan knew when to hang it up. He knew his performance decline was happening and hurting the franchise especially late in the season, and he knew the Miami organization wanted to move on. He stayed out of the way of the franchise even though noboday doubts to this day that Marino sure as hell was a better QB at the time than any of the scrubs that have played for Miami the last 8 years. Even dispite pleas from Minnesota and the Steelers to ride in on a white horse to put them in the playoff hunt at the time, Marino wanted to do right by his fan base and the community that he lived in for so many years.
It is unfortuneate to see Brett tarnish his legacy because sadly the "Farve Watch" offseasons are what he will be remembered most for. He could take a page from Dan's playbook here. Retire and stay that way Brett.
Brett Favre is starting to remind me of Nick Saban...a whole lot of talent, but you can't trust a damn word he says...or text messages for that matter. He has been telling everyone and there mother that there is 0% chance he will play this season, and yet he is going to have a "meeting" with the Vikings? A year ago, I was hoping he would be come to Tampa and eventually retire as a Buccaneer. Now, (God help me for saying this...) I think we are better off with Josh Freeman or Luke McClown.
If he wants to play - let him. I can't see how anyone could play for the Thompson/McCarthy team. How could anyone get fired up by a head coach like McCarthy? Have you ever listened to him speak? He puts me to sleep- great way to fire a team up. Thompson hates Farve and it was obvious in the way he treated him. Thought I would never say this, but when the Vikes and Pack play I will be rooting for the Vikes. Sure wasn't impressed with pretty boy Rodgers.
stonez,
Well said, and I don't even like Dan Marino...I personally think he stood in the way of bringing in a great running game which could have made them a legendary offense, but I think his grace at the end made up for most of that...and his role in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective made up for the rest.
"Do you have anymore gum, Ace?"

With a QB the Vikings could be contenders so more power to him. Rubbing it in the Packers noses is just a bonus.
