The Dallas Cowboys released Terrell Owens on Wednesday night. But are the Cowboys a better team without him?
Every team is better without T.O.
Very true. In other words, the League is better without Owens and a few others. It's time that the NFL (and the media)presented a better image to America's youth than shining lights on these egotistical,self-centered jerks.
Very well said basepoint! With Packman, Owens and a few others, it makes it difficult to be a cowboys fan. At one time, With Tex and Tom at the helm, the Cowboys were a team (mostly) of character and when some clown like "Hollywood" behaved badly, they were gone the next week. Too bad Jerry does not see character as important.
If the team where made up of people with the character of Whitten, then we could all be fans even if the team performance was not-so-good. The way it is now, the team has poor overall character and (or hence) poor performance.
As you said, it is time that the NFL as well as the other professional leagues stop spotlighting the egotistical, self-centered jerks. Even when someone makes a tackle nowadays; the TV camera focuses on them showing off!! I find this distasteful in that it says “look at this behavior it is worthy of TV time”. How to get on TV: show off, draw attention to yourself, and act like an unruly adolescent.
Oh, maybe Jerry's unfamailar with the definition of "character." Ronald McDonald, after all, is a character and if he could catch a ball and guarantee one on-screen tantrum a game, Jerry'd sign him in a heartbeat.
After all, the game is just part of where the money is. There's also the money from CMT with the cheerleaders reality show and the HBO training camp show, Hard Knocks. Maybe it's time the team management stops thinking of themselves as "America's team" and start acting like any kind of team instead of a bunch of whiny drama queens.
T.O is not a person, he's an illness that will spread misery wherever he goes. He believes in no one but himself. If no one signs him, ( I doubt that, there still people there that care more for the money than the game) he will create a religion around himself that will rival scientology and he will call it Terrellogy.
Get real, it's about winning. One person/distraction should not cause a team to not make the playoffs in Dallas's case, they have too much talent to say one guy is the reason. If so maybe they should look elsewhere like coaches if you want to say that. If a CEO can't lead a company do they fire all the talented employee's? They finally get a big receiver to complement on the other side, with J.W. to open up the middle and Barbarian running. With that scenario they should have been able to still get it done with TO problems are not, he may be distraction in locker room but he is also a distraction to the other team when on the field. If Romo wouldn't have been running for his life every series or they didn't get a false start at critical times every other series things may have been different. Are we looking at the Cowboys O line? Maybe the coach wasn't a good leader or the QB, is anyone saying they should go? I just say in the case of the Cowboys, too much talent to say one guy is the cause for not winning football games.
I agree with you whole heartedly! I am a Cowboy's fan through and through. Win, loose or tie till I die! And while I do not personally care for T.O. as an individual, you can not blame him for the problems in the locker room or on the field. Okay, with the eagles he was 1-0 in the playoffs where as with the Cowboy's he was 0-2, however it's not as if he was the direct cause for missing the playoff's on either occasion. It's not like he dropped the game winning TD or anything! Wade sucks, every one knows this! Jerry just like's to have someone who is basically an automaton droid on his staff so he can tell them what to do with out challenge! That's why Parcells is no longer on the staff and why Jimmy never got along with Mr. Jones! My team commits' more penalties than almost any other team in the league yet it seems like when it comes down to it people forget this! Plus Jerry paid Romo way too soon! He is no longer humble and you can tell by his performance! There is no clear leadership on the team as of right now and cutting a threatening force like T.O. is "lame brained" in my opinion! Any time he steps on the field he affects the game! Whether it's a break out catch and run or just simply drawing more attention to his side of the field to lesson the stress of the O line and our HB! This will probably be one of the bigger mistakes Jerry makes during the off season...but it definitely won't be the last!!! It will be interesting to say the least.
As an Eagle fan I can tell you that it is a team sport and that having talent always helps but it is more important that a player knows his place on the team. But I will give Owens props for leading a decent life off the field. There are worse things in this world than being egotistical and selfish.
Let me start by saying I've never liked T.O.'s behavior over the years. I do think he is incredibly self centered. But what I also know is in that regard Owens is not special. He is probably representative of at least 80% of professional athletes, especially football players who undergo things to get to where they are that many fans can't fathom.
The only reason Owens is the poster boy for selfishness is because unlike most athletes, he has always had the exceptional physical talent and work ethic to back up his ego. Because of that, he always has camera's and mic's in his face to capture when he says or does something that most people ignore from from 90 % of other players. And like others have pointed out, have you ever heard of T.O. in trouble off the field like so many in the NFL?
So will the Dallas Cowboys have a better locker room in the long run without him. Yes. But will they win more games on the field without him? Nope.
T.O. was alot of things but off the field trouble didnt find him that often. hat's off to him for that. so many athletes have issues but he rarely did. i applaud him for that. Boys will be back for all you haters out there; always will be the one & only AMERICA'S TEAM!! DONT YOU FORGET IT!!!
Take all that money you really don't deserve and start a fishing boat operation. You can hold people captive for hours and tell them how GREAT you are!
As a Philadelphia fan, I have to say I would take Owens back in a second. This is a bad move on Dallas's part, the only reason there is so much drama surrounding him is because the media is constantly looking for it. If they followed ANY player around as much as they do Owens they would find the same ego and stupidity. What they wouldn't find is a player who puts the same amount of effort and skill into his game as TO has always done.
T.O. has a serious mental problem that can be cured if he gets psychological treatment.
Listen people, you all are just looking and thinking on the surface. T.O. is the man.
Look, you pay the money he gets, you expect him to perform. And, that's whjat he does.
It really does not matter how you play. It matters if you win. Losers do not get anywhere or get anything. Only winners are recognized. T.O. you are my man . You are a winner. Good luck to you and I hope you get in a bettr team and show those Cowboys, what they lost...
Owen's departure may be a very good thing for the Dallas Cowboy organization as a whole. With him gone, maybe we can focus on what the REAL problem in Dallas truly is. In my estimation, that REAL problem is two or three guys that never wear a uniform. If that is not plain enough, their names are Jones, Phillips, and Garrett. Mainly Jones ~ but he owns the team so that will probably never improve.
TO seems a lot like Manny,,, great talent, but is too self consumed.... personally, i think they both ought to be spectators... But we have learned through Manny's recent contract, along with many others like it,,, teams would sell their mothers if they thought it would get them another win... This is one one thug of many Cowboys they have delt with.. What about all the others?
The only thing the Cowboys would be better off without is Wade Phillips. The man has no emotion. And maybe Jones could sell the team so we don't have to see the crypt keeper creeping around the sidelines as well.
TO was just one of Cowboys many problems. How about a talented, although highly unmotivated offense, lead by an ineffective OC; a clueless ("I wish I had an answer") head coach and an egotistical owner too involved in managing the team. Jerry is more interested in making pizza commercials and creating a "show business" environment than winning football games. A team without motivation and leadership is a team without the mental toughness required to win the Super Bowl in today's long NFL season. Good luck in that new billion plus dollar stadium with out-of-touch ticket prices.
TO is one of the best at his position. He's a gamebreaker and his presence on the field will be missed. I'm a Redskins fan but I still give the man his props.
Blame it on T.O... But as I look at the last (5) five games, O.C. Jason Garrett threw the games with his play calling. He wanted Phillips Job. Dallas had a chance to compete next year. When you listen to Mark Slereth On ESPN and other Pundits who believe THEY ARE the ones in the KNOW, you'll find to many times they are wrong. Mark Werder anyone. Randy Moss was supposed to be a locker room killer. Jerry Had the right instincts about T.O......Does Roy Williams have 38 Touchdowns his last three seasons. He's not a breakaway receiver, ESPN highlight Film Last 4yrs? Romo, Witten, Williams get ready to be traded year after next, becuase without T.O. Dallas ain't goin nowhere, and I'm a Diehard Cowboy Fan. You'll always have ATTITUDE in the locker room between players that don't play to thier potential and those who DO, No matter the SPORT.
T O just runs fast, catches passes, scores, is psycho crazy about losing and wants to win. Romo is a sissy and TO needs a team where the emphasis is on day to day performance. Losing TO hurts more than losing Romo but hey, Romo is quiet, white and dates well. Pac-Man was a poor choice but to mention PAC and TO in the same breath is just stupid. TO is a difference maker and at the end of the day gets a huge contract, wins games for someone else and I bet is in a superbowl before the Cowboys return
The problem with the Cowboys is the Owner/GM/Coach/Personnel Director - JERRY JONES...!!!! He's still trying to live out his dreams from his days at Arkansas...!!!! Start at the top and go from there....He hired one of the weakest coaches in the NFL because he knew that he would be his puppett...Gave Romo a big contract too early....Who has single-handledly loss more games than Tony Romo...???? No one...!!!! The media was damned and determined to blame all of the Cowboy's troubles on T.O., who took up for his team at every opportunity....There are too many athelets that "enjoy" losing these days....they are playing for the $$$ not for the passion....This guy have 110% everytime he hit the field....The came back from a devasting injury in Philly and almost bailed cry-baby Donovan out....but got no credit!!!! The Cowboy's better draft a decent QB and build for the future....Probably....and I hope they don't make the playoffs again this year in there "new" house....
I am a T.O. fan, i don't agree with his antics but silly people misconstrue his antics as him being a bad person which is false, he may not be the best teammate but you never hear of him being in trouble with the law. Ever hear of him beating women, neglecting any child whom he may have fathered, how about being drunk in a club? Exactly....people love to hate on someone and T.O. is that guy, Dallas isn't winning any super bowl anytime soon, they are all hype and no substance. Dallas has every right to get rid of anyone they want, but to get rid of him for nothing? That's crazy, the man has value and is still a good player regardless of what people feel or say about him.
