I believe he WANTS to play again but I don't believe anybody is going to bring him in to START and he won't settle for backup roles.

I lost ALOT of respect for him last year when he retired and then caused all that mess when he came back. Yes he is a GREAT player but I think he should retire and STAY retired. But I would not be suprised if he changes his mind but I will no longer watch him if he does stay

Well, at least he "retired" this year rather quickly, instead of dragging everyone thru the dirt and playing childish games in the process. Favre's better days are WAY behind him. He needs to realize that and move on.

He was a great player, but not so great as a teammate who played games with the people who paid his millions to him. He needed to be the center of attention and since the attention he is getting right now is negative he will go away to lick him ego. Watch however for some team to lose their starting QB early in the season or pre-season and then try to fix it by trying to get Favre. This will be just what he wants, back in the spotlight.

I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

Retire or not, nobody wants him now. He would be out of a job anyway.

I think Brett will try to join the Vikings in order to beat the Pack 2x. However, I think his trade contract to the Jets prohibited them from doing that.

He was, and is, fun to watch. The retirement drama does get a little tiresome though.

I love reading through the posts of people with no clue whatsoever. If Favre didn't get hurt last year, the media and fans would still be singing his praises...remember how it was after he played nearly perfect and the beat the undefeated Titans in Tennessee? He's still the most fun NFL player in history, and the whining and complaining from a bunch of petty and insecure people who hate anyone who's successful won't change that. Thanks Brett, and enjoy your new life. We'll miss you.

Well said Jeff. The backbiting and naysaying of the blogoshpere baboons can't erase a first ballot hall of fame career. As a life long Packer fan I know that for better or for worse we always got a 100% effort from #4.

Yes, I think Brett would play again next season if he was given a contract. Although, the only team he could help would be the Lions. Favre starting for Detroit could not hurt the team anymore. I would like to see him finally retire though. He didn't look very good during the final half of last season. He's had a great career. Now he needs to retire so he can get into the Hall of Fame.

I agree with all you folks that Brett is an incredible talent. The NFL is something less without his skill and attitude. But it has always astounded me that he doesn't seem to have an exit strategy.

Brett - There is always going to be a world of options out there for you after football, a point in time you knew is coming. Choose a one - or a bunch; its time to get on with your life.

Let's hope he retires and stays retired. Favre redefined what it means to be a champion.

Players who overstay their time in the limelight become (somewhat) tragic. His fans deserve to remember him at his best.

I think he's through, from what I read about his stay with Jets he wasn't exactly a "team player", at least he didn't fraternize with the rest of the team. But if he starts sobbing uncontrollably in a news conference, somebody tell me quick so I can go back and change my vote.

Its definately time for him to stop. The last 5 games of the season are evidence of that, and he obviously realizes that, which is (probably) why he's retiring again. The question will be, when April and May roll around, when he's not sore anymore, will he get the "itch" again? And will any team out there want to scratch it?

I think he is done, and here is why

When Favre retired in 2007, he had just thrown for 4,000 yards, and had one of his best years ever. He was one game from another super bowl, and I think he retired because Ted Thompson rushed him into a decision.

But this year, he struggled at the end of the year, he looked like he just wanted to quit. His body wore down, and he appeared to be at the end of the line. He would not have done much better in green bay, it is not his fault, he is just too old to start 16 games.

I hope so. He has already cost a coach a job and pretty much devided a team. He had the Packers uncertain and he needs to just retire. There is no doubt where his place in history is however there does not seem to be a place for his uncertainty today. Enjoy life after football and look forward to the HOF.
