He is #1 on a list of 104 who tested positive in 2003 for performance enhancing drugs...where's the list of the other 103? If we're going to jump on A-Rod let's find out the rest of the guilty as well.
If the people who leak these things had any guts at all they would go on the record with their names. Quite frankly I am tired of these higher ups who break this type of info, ruin other individuals lives, and then go quietly about their business. C'mon and name some sources SI!
Excellent point made, because the entire group isn't being held responsible. SI should know better than that; they are supposed to be a reputable publication, not one that engages in tabloid stories.
With all the money floating around, either legalize it or do weekly testing for everyone during the season. The bigger the salary the shorter the frequency between testing..
Now we know why he was so silent when Giambi admitted using steroids. All the talent in the world, the biggest salary, steroids and he STILL sucks when it counts in the playoffs. Is this the reason his teammates called him A-Fraud???
The point that's being missed is the illegality of how this information was obtained. The survey in 2003 was supposedly confidential and anonymous, so the question begs itself as to how does the public know that this is a legitimate story. Also, to the condescending sports writers and those in the public, it wasn't against the rules to use these drugs that year.
No one wants to turn a blind eye to people who may be playing outside the lines, but what do we say about those who illegally obtain information that was never meant to be disclosed and use that information to ruin someone's life? The steroid argument is a confusing one that has many facets to it, so I don't see that each case is as "black and white" as we would like to make them.
Baseball, as a whole, knew what was going on during these days and turned a blind eye. Now, we want to hold only a few responsible, when the entire group should be held in that manner. Until this story has more facts behind it, the consensus should be to wait and see how involved A-Rod really is.
Sorry Henry, steroids been against the rules for a loooooooonnnngggg time.
It fell under the rule that it was against the rules to use prescription medicine without a legitimate prescription.
Here is the quote from Fay Vincent:
Jun. 7, 1991 – Commissioner Fay Vincent Issues Memo Regarding Steroid Use
After the U.S. Congress raises penalties for steroid possession, Commissioner Fay Vincent sends a memo to each team indicating that steroids would be added to Major League Baseball's banned list. The memo stated: "The possession, sale or use of any illegal drug or controlled substance by Major League players or personnel is strictly prohibited ... This prohibition applies to all illegal drugs ... including steroids." The seven-page document didn't include a testing plan -- that had to be bargained with the union -- but it did outline treatment and penalties.
I don't know why it is, somebody always tries to make it out that steroids weren't against the rules. Unfortunately for the cheaters it was against the rules as early as 1991.
The only became popular after continued improvements developed designer steroids that were difficult to test for.
But the problem was, there was no penalty in place until 2003. Again, baseball tried to do the right thing, but gave it a half ass effort. So players took advantage of the situation. I wish the public would get over trying to crucify these atheletes for this because Im certain if their lives were scrutinized every second of every day, we would find just as much dirt on the ones calling for bans and such.
Pete Rose was banned from baseball for an infraction that pales compared to that of A-rod, I say strip him of all his achievements and ban him from professionsl sports FOREVER!!! He deserves nothing less..........This is not what I want the youth of America to look up to as an idol or hero. He is a drug user, plain and simple BAN HIM!!!
What kills me about all this controvery is that no seems to put any blame on MLB execs at all. Even tho I am convinced that many of the marquis players used steroids, baseball stood by and silently watched. WHY? Cuz it was good for the game. Mcguire and Sosas home run chase sold tickets and revenues were up. Baseball certainly knew there was a problem brewing but hoped it would go away. Now that its all in the media, baseball has come out and tried to act shocked. Give me a break. They silently allowed this to happen and then quickly condemned everyone suspect. To add injury to insult, they enlisted the governments help to sic em. While government bailouts and corporate fraud brings our economy to the brink, we watch the government go after baseball players. I say get over it. Many players took advantage of the fact that baseball didnt police themselved until too late. Once MLB realized that they got beat, they tried to go after past offenders. Time to move on.
The Steroid news and witch hunt every year right before the season starts is getting old. MLB needs to move forward. Whoever released the "sealed" information should be the one made an example of . I blame MLB for turning a blind eye all these years and not keeping their sport in order. The past is the past so lets get over it, move on and let the steroid era die already.
THEY ARE ALL ON DRUGS. Is that still a big secret!
MEMO: The media lies about doping 24/7. Steroids have been in baseball since the 1950s.
Steroids, insulin, hGH, female fertility hormones DPO NOT make you BULK up! Training & rest do.
Lance Phamrstrong uses more drigs than A-Fraud & Serenea Willimas combined and he is skinny! Endurance training needs steroids for maitenance in a wasting stress load. In track, Football and baseball athletes tool according to their position. All-rounder, closer, middle reliever, sterting pitcher or HR slugger. Power/speed versus stamina.
They are all doped. Your favoraite player is a drug addict!
People look at cycling and think it is a taineted sport with a lot of cheats. But it is THE ONLY sport seriously policing iteslef thanks to the UCI and WADA and USADA. But pro sports like football and baseball are laughable as they are WAY overly steroid ridden and the maor sports do NOTHING to clean it up. They are overpriced, over-rated cheats....take a lesson from cycling and do out of competition unannounced testing with SERIOUS bans for the first offense, 2 years without pay just like cycling...and then you'll see it clean up quick! Otherwise, the cheating will continue.
Again we are missing a important point in this whole mess, his name is BUD SELIG. He allowed this whole thing to fester in to huge boil for MLB, instead of him getting a $3 mil raise he should be fired by baseball.
If these guys are so talented why do they do steroids. They have everything going for them but they won't rely on their natural ability to get the job done. Just another example of ego getting in the way.
It seems that unless we have controversy we are not happy. I am not a proponent of enhancement drugs but enough is enough. We want them to play like superman, hold them up like Gods and then we trash them when they do what they do. There were an additional amount of unnamed players but A-Rod name comes out. Do we know if our sterling players of the past used anything? Did the press question Babe Ruths feat. Did they accuse him of cheating? He drank and smoked in excess and ran around during the saeson. How did he replenish his energy. All the greats that we ,as fans, have elevated to God like status and did not fullfill our expectations were thet possibly on steriods? We will never know because the media of old wrote about there playing ability and not there personal life. I guess when you become a pro athlete you give up your rights to a personal existance and become indentured to your fans. Lets cut the bull and play ball.
Any professional athlete who has been proven to have taken performance enhancing drugs, (including, but not limited to anabolic steroids) should lose their jobs, their mega-salaries, their possessions, any records they have achieved should be expunged and they should go to jail.
These are the people who are supposed to be role models for our children, and look at what they do. They don't give a hoot about the public, all they care about is themselves. They are true narcissists and do not deserve the public's adulation.
One of these days, someone is going to do the research necessary to uncover the role drugs play in sports history--baseball, football, basketball, etc. I remember reading a bio on Mickey Mantle taking "greenies" or something like this. I think we'll find that human nature compels athletes to do whatever is necessary and not illegal to play better and longer. An athlete's life of play and making money is a short one; he/she will be out of sports at an early age. If some athletes know that there are drugs available to make them play better, chances are they're going to do them. I know this says a lot about human nature, but so do so many other things that we learn about the hard way. I'm not shocked at A-Rod, Mac, Sammy, Clemens, But there are still almost 100 on "that list" and that's only for 2003. What about from 1998 (when Mac and Sammy ran their race to the top) to 2002? Remember, during that period, Luis Gonzalez hit 57 homers, and never hit more than 30 in any other season. Strange? This is the kind of suspicion baseball is now under. But judging from the gate receipts, it doesn't appear the fans care enough to stay away. Meanwhile, new ballparks in NY are christened and the game goes on.
Let's make sure all these drug junkie players do not get into the Hall of Fame in Cooperstowns. If they do it would be a disgrace to past players who were straight are far as performing enhancing drups. Keep the bums out!
Seriously, get over it. For those of you who are tearing into A-Rod for testing positive in 2003, don't be surprised if some of your favorite players tested positive as well. The results were supposed to be anonymous; now that A-Rod's name has been dragged in the mud, so should the names of the other 104 players who tested positive. A-Rod has a lot of confidence, and I don't believe that this news will impact his performance; I do, however, believe that those Yankees fans who are fickle will have one more thing to dislike A-Rod for.
Its a sad day for baseball. The worst part in all of this is that he could have had the same numbers without the juice.
He is #1 on a list of 104 who tested positive in 2003 for performance enhancing drugs...where's the list of the other 103? If we're going to jump on A-Rod let's find out the rest of the guilty as well.

I like the idea of testing more frequently for higher paid players.
Now we know why he was so silent when Giambi admitted using steroids. All the talent in the world, the biggest salary, steroids and he STILL sucks when it counts in the playoffs. Is this the reason his teammates called him A-Fraud???

The steroid era will not end until players stop using steriods.

TV sports are fake! Accept it!
It all depends on which steroids you are using.
Some make you bulk up.. some increase your endurance.
Same thing with weight lifting... not all weight lifting bulks you up.
Power lifting yes..
You can design a weight lifting (or steroid plan) that will give whatever benefit you are looking for.
A number of younger people that I knew in Miami were juicing.
