NO QB. QB isn't Lions problem. Keeping Qb on feet is. Oh yeah, little thing called Defense. Need to fix trenches, LB. How many holes does an 0-16 team have. LOL. I'd go with Smith OT.
The lions front office is their biggest problem. They don't care if they don't win. It doesn't matter who they pick the lions will get 2 wins next year.
Detroit needs to draft offensive line or defensive line. Build from the ground up, I would start O-line because of how deep this draft is. Their multiple elite tackles, I think 6-8 first year starters. Four legitimate first years starting centers and two elite guards. There are bound to be other starters, but these are pro bowl type talents. If Mark Sanchez or Matt Stafford somehow fall to #20, then you can draft one of them, if, and only if, you drafted a left tackle with the first pick. If you went defense, keep rolling with defense or draft O-line. There are three book end left tackles who will start every game they are healthy and keep your quarterback safe for years (I say try to go 0-16 again and take Tebow next year, let somebody else air it out to Calvin Johnson). They should thank their lucky stars if Duke Robinson is there at 20, but they should stick with O-Line regardless and take another tackle like Britton or Beatty, or Alex Mack. At 33, they should thank their lucky stars again if Alex Mack somehow slipped down, but take Max Unger, and hopefully have an elite offensive line about 2 hours into day 1. I am not a Lions fan, but I could make them a contender in 2-3 years, but anybody with Calvin Johnson, three picks in the top 33 in the deepest O-Line draft in years, and half a brain could do that as well. Obvious most sports media types don't have that half a brain. Bradford, McCoy, and TEBOW are all coming out next year. Don't risk their future drafting a bust when you could have a sick offensive line protecting an elite QB in 2010. You don't from 0-16 to the Super Bowl by drafting an underclassman QB with nobody to teach him, and, more importantly, no O-line to protect your franchise's future. Either build the O-line or the defense on day 1. Here's a defensive mind draft: Aaron Curry, James Laurinatis, Peria Jerry. That's be a good start to a dominant front 7.
They will draft Smith with the first pick and than trade the 20th pick to New England or Casell. Now you have a quarterback and a tackle to protect him
You guys all make great points except you're missing the question. It's not who should they draft but who will they draft. Knowing the Lions they'll probably go with another iffy underclassmen QB like Stafford (remember Joey Harrington?) or the best WR available in Crabtree. Remember, they got rid of Millen but instead of getting fresh blood they promoted Millen's assistant, so why will their drafts all of a sudden improve?
Detroit needs a new front office that wants to win. Us faithful fans deserve better. As far as the draft, DEFENCE! They need to beef it up and become the old black and blue division of years past.
they need either o-line, d-line or defensive backs. the last thing they need to do is thrust a young quarterback into a situation where he's fed to the wolves. plus when the lions pass defence is allowing a 70% completion rate, there needs to be pressure up front on the quarterback or coverage out back
the best qb in the draft is graham harrell. in the nfl the most important thing is accurates if u watch him play he hits hes targets every time on the hands in stride detriot can steal him in later rounds when in trouble he steps up very important in nfl lets pass rush go bye
DEFENSE! Forget the QB and the WR. Smith goes first to the Lions. They can wait a bit and pick up Pat White a little later in the draft. Most First round QBs end up busts anyway (Leinart, Smith)
Geez... wasn't this supposed to be the year of the DEEP DRAFT.... GATHER PIX!!!!... and NO TRADING UP later to get "our guy"... Upgrades and team depth! Level-headed, intelligent decisions for once. Get Curry, line help, and White in the 3rd.
NO MORE QUARTERBACKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU FORD!
Like Lawerence, please no more QB. At least not in 1st round. Lions have to many other problems, like the OL. What good is a QB if he's on his back.

The Lions need EVERYTHING, but a rookie coach needs a QB to start a change and perhaps a Dynasty (See Joe Montana).
Need to take OT Smith for long term protection up front. But it is the Lions so God only knows.
What about trading down?

A flashy running back would be best for them.

Fix the lines, Offence and Defence, and then get a q-back later, like White or Freeman. Both will surprise in the NFL!
Everyone is discussing this as if the Lions have any clue how to function in the NFL.
The first thing I would like to see Detroit do is GET A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL ORGANIZATION!
